I've had an idea for an alternate version of your mod - called 'I'm Reluctant To Be A Jedi'. The idea is for a 'lite' version of the mod that fits the original KOTOR story better. If it's possible to create this, please do, as I'm not a modder myself! The intended effect of the mod would be for the player to end the game as a level 4 Jedi (still a Padawan), and level 16 in their original class. Basically, the opposite of what happens when the player saves levels on Taris. In this alternate version of the mod, the player must undertake Jedi training and become a Jedi on Dantooine, as originally. The original 'Compulsory Level Up' after choosing their Jedi class remains, and all the original dialogue and choices are retained. The only difference from the original game is - the player will only level up their Jedi class when on Dantooine (at the Jedi Academy) and when on Korriban (at the Sith Academy). Elsewhere, the player will level up their original class (Soldier, Scout or Scoundrel). This simulates the player character refusing to continue studying the ways of the Force with Bastila or Jolee on the Ebon Hawk. They only train as a Jedi or Sith when they have no other option. Creating the 'I'm Reluctant To Be A Jedi' mod: Build 3 additional 'Compulsory Level Ups' into the game script, which will level up the player's Jedi class - using the same process as the original one, at the following points in the story: Level Up #1: Zhar Lestin: "Congratulations, apprentice. Or should I say congratulations, Padawan? You have proven yourself worthy of joining the Jedi. Let me be the first to welcome you as a full-fledged member of our Order!" Jedi Trials: You have completed the final stages of your training and have been accepted into the Jedi Order as a Padawan. Level Up #2: Uthar Wynn: "Welcome to the dark side, my children... your one chance at true greatness lies here." The Way of the Sith: You have managed to enter the Sith academy as a hopeful vying with several others to become the one who will be finally admitted as a full Sith. Level Up #3: Uthar Wynn: "You have impressed me enough, by my estimation, to become a Sith in full. Congratulations, young one... you have bested the others quite completely." The Way of the Sith: Master Uthar has been impressed enough to declare you worthy of taking the final test at the tomb of Naga Sadow. All manual level ups done by the player would level up the character's original non-Jedi class. Alternatively: A more flexible method of creating this alternative mod would require the level up script to br able to determine the player's current planetary location, and carry out a different level up process depending on where the player is. If the player is on Dantooine or Korriban, level up Jedi class. If on any other planet (or the Star Forge), level up original class. (Notes: The player as a level 4 Jedi would have 5 Force Powers and between 50 and 100 Force points depending on Jedi class and WIS + CHA modifiers. Enough for your 'Reluctant Jedi' character to have an effect on the story befitting someone very strong in the Force, but not enough to make them a full fledged Jedi Knight or Sith Lord fighting with Force powers all the time. The least overtly Jedi-like Force powers to take would be: the Force Aura line, the Force Valor line, the Affect Mind line, the Burst of Speed line, the Energy Resistance line, and the Force Resistance line - but all except Affect Mind and Energy Resistance require your character to not wear armour.)

Very nice mod... although I don't think Janice Nall needs to be wearing such heavy looking battle armour while working in her droid shop in the safe Upper City, looks OTT. Personally, I'd give her the black and grey Echani Light Armor, which is Resist 15/- vs. Fire, her reason to wear that could be to protect from accidental fires in her workshop. Or maybe the yellow and tan Cinnagar Weave Armor (unavailable to the player) for a completely unique look - that has Resist 20/- vs. Fire & Cold.

I like the idea of this mod, because it fits my head canon for one of my player characters. She's a light side Jedi Guardian, but she started out as a Scoundrel. Her story is that she didn't like the idea of becoming a Jedi, which normally means giving up all her freedom for the rest of her life. She agreed to do the Jedi training on Dantooine only because the Jedi Masters told her that Malak would hunt her down and kill her anyway if she didn't. So, she decided that she would be a Jedi only as long as Malak was still alive, and then she would quit the Jedi Order and go back to being a Scoundrel. Therefore, right after killing Malak, she takes the Ebon Hawk and does a runner! Bastila, Juhani and Carth aren't impressed, but don't dare to try and stop her as she's way too powerful. Jolee, Canderous and Mission just think it's funny!

Love the moustache. Calo Nord is now a villain from the '70's. Yeah, the 3970's BBY, but still the '70's, man. Groovy! Speaking of the '70's, I was just inspired to adapt a famous song from that era. Here goes: This is Major Carth to Fleet Control I’m stepping through the hatch And I’m floating in a most peculiar way And the stars look very different today For here am I sitting in a tin can Far above the world Endar Spire just blew And there’s nothing I can do Though I’m past one hundred thousand miles I’m feeling very still And I hope my space pod knows which way to go Told my wife I loved her very much She knew Fleet Control to Major Carth Your comm’s gone dead, there’s something wrong Can you hear me, Major Carth? Can you hear me, Major Carth? Can you hear me, Major Carth? Can you…. Here am I floating round my tin can Far above the world Planet Taris is blue And there’s nothing I can do.

This mod works as described, no problems encountered. The multiclassing of non-Jedi classes is interesting, starting as a Scoundrel and then switching to a Soldier on Dantooine creates a character that is a strong fighter with a Sneak Attack damage bonus, if he/she gets behind the enemy or catches them when they are unable to move.

I really like the headcanon explanations for this variation of Revan's story that this mod allows for. Here's a couple of examples I thought of: 1. The reason Carth and the player rescued Bastila on Taris was to get her back to the Fleet so she could use her Battle Meditation to win victories and save lives. But this is completely forgotten on Dantooine! A player who is a Republic Soldier or Scout should strongly object to Bastila wasting time training a Jedi apprentice on Dantooine (a peacetime Jedi activity) rather than returning to the Fleet and helping win the war. Master Vandar never discussed Bastila's future agenda with Admiral Dodonna - I bet the Admiral would have been absolutely horrified and very angry! How many Republic ships and crews would be lost in battle with the Sith because Bastila was on Dantooine for months? No other Jedi in this time had her ability. 2. A player who is a Scoundrel would likely take a VERY dim view of committing the rest of their entire life to the Jedi Order, and giving up their freedom permanently. Even a Republic Soldier or Scout has only signed up for the duration of the war. Scoundrels would really value their freedom and independence very highly, and should only agree to help the Republic in wartime, to save their home. Many would only agree to Republic army service as an alternative to being stuck in prison! 3. A player who naturally leans toward the Dark Side would not want the Jedi Order to pry too closely into their feelings and motivations, and the bond with Bastila makes concealment of dark emotions very difficult, if not completely impossible. Refusing the Jedi training misses out on the massive power gain of learning the ways of the Force, but at least it allows the player a better chance of staying away from Bastila and hopefully escaping from the Jedi Order at the earliest opportunity.

overhaul MOD:N-DReW's K1 Gameplay Improvement BETA
titus272 replied to N-DReW25's topic in Mod Releases
Is this mod compatible with: i) Brotherhood of Shadow - Solomon's Revenge ii) K1 Community Patch iii) K1 Force Pack v1.0 iv) Party Leveler K1 please? Thank you, and thank you very much indeed for all your efforts in trying to develop an all-in-one gameplay improvement mod for KOTOR I - very much appreciated! Have you considered combining your mod with Selphadur's Kotor Texture Redux mod into a single project? That would create a single all-in-one K1-HD-Textures+Gameplay-Improvement-Mod (K1-HD+GIM), which would be awesome, and so much easier to use than the plethora of separate mods available now.- 38 replies
