  1. HD NPC Portraits

    HD NPC Portraits
    for Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords
    v1.1 - 20201004 - by ndix UR (DeadlyStream user)

    This modification adds 30 high resolution (1K) portrait images for NPCs. The 1K portraits have 64x the resolution of the 128x128 originals. The portraits are rendered to match the poses, colors, and lighting of the original images as closely as possible given the following constraints:
    Only vanilla textures (and my own additional maps based on same) are used While the textures are mostly crap, most of the work was in material setup using a modern rendering engine, so even the vanilla textures still wind up looking much better than they have any right to. This is because of real lights, shading, and materials, of which the original diffuse textures are only a part. I didn't really redo geometry, beyond appropriate use of edge split and subdivision surface modifiers.
    I did some amount of normalizing the gradients behind the characters. I think Disciple and Mira are the only ones with non-standard background gradients now.
    This package includes portrait for HK-50 and HK-51 units. They aren't used in any existing mods I'm aware of; I just put them in because they made sense to have. You can remove them if you wish. The Atris portrait is unused in the vanilla game but may be used by playable Atris mods. I only included it because it existed in the vanilla assets.

  3. tpcview

    View and export Odyssey Engine proprietary texture formats.
    A lightweight, somewhat quick viewer for textures in TPC format, or the proprietary header DDS format used in Aurora and its descendants.
    Also provides a capability to export to TGA, which is useful when you find images that won't convert via any other tool.
    The viewer aspect is a bit of an afterthought, as for the longest time this was just where I tested my TPC=>TGA conversion code. However, over time, I found myself wanting a simple viewer that could preview a lot of images at once, so this happened.
    The application is cross-platform, available for macOS and Windows.
    The app is written in javascript, built on Electron using three.js.
    ============================================================
    How do I set it up?
    Windows: Download the '-installer' file, unzip the 7z package, run tgaview Setup <version>.exe
    Mac: unzip the package, move tpcview.app to /Applications, run it
    * This is not a signed application, so you have to do whatever is required to run non-MAS applications on your MacOS version.
    The application provides file associations for TPC & DDS files. Hopefully the DDS association will not override any you may already have for non-proprietary DDS files.
    ============================================================
    How do I use it?
    Viewing
    Drag files in. They should show up. The files you drag in fill the window in a list that generally resembles the file input order. They all show at once, so there's a moderate memory requirement around loading many files at once. For example, loading the 5210 TPC files from TSL takes 2.25G memory on my machine, your mileage will vary.
    Mouse over images to get info about them in the window's title bar. Click images to toggle scaling the image to fit the window and viewing the information about them in the info panel at the bottom of the window.
    Double click the background of the window to clear all loaded images.
    Exporting
    Use modifier keys while dragging in order to get Export as TGA functionality. A description of the export activity you are requesting shows up in the info panel at the bottom while you are dragging. Export will occur while the file is being loaded. You cannot export already open images without dragging them in again.
    Files are exported into same directory as original TPC files being dragged, THEY WILL OVERWRITE EXISTING TGA FILES WITHOUT WARNING.
    When a TPC file is exported to TGA, a TXI file will also be generated if the original TPC file contained such information.
    When adding alpha blending value to TXI output, only non-1.0 values will be added (as 1.0 is considered default).
    ============================================================
    Features
    View TPC format 32bpp, 24bpp, and 8bpp compressed and uncompressed images View Aurora proprietary DDS format 32bpp and 24bpp compressed images Export to TGA Export TXI files containing the texture extension information from TPC files Export all detail levels (mipmaps) present in original image file (can help debugging image compressors) Add an alpha blending value from the TPC header into exported TXI file outputs, i.e. '# alphablending 0.67' File association for TPC and DDS formats with provided file type icons

  4. tga2tpc

    tga2tpc
    Author: ndix UR
    Release: July 2020
    Version: 3.0.1
    Convert TGA images to TPC format for use in KotOR and TSL.
    TPC files contain the information from a TXI file (so the TXI file is no longer needed when a TPC file is used), and can be uncompressed or compressed with either DXT1 or DXT5.
    Advanced features like animation and cubemap layering are initiated by the presence of specific TXI directives like cube 1 and proceduretype cycle.
    For some reason, the game really wants normal maps to be in TPC format. This will let you create and use full 32-bit color normal maps without having to make them into simple height maps by using indexed color.
    The tool is free, open source, and cross-platform. Code is available at https://github.com/ndixUR/tga2tpc
    The app is written in javascript, built on Electron using three.js, jquery, bootstrap.
    ============================================================
    How do I set it up?
    Windows: unzip the package, run tga2tpc.exe
    Mac: unzip the package, move tga2tpc.app to /Applications, run it
    * This is not a signed application, so you have to do whatever is required to run non-MAS applications on your MacOS version.
    ============================================================
    How do I use it?
    Drag files in and hit start. There shouldn't be much more to it than that. Using square and/or power of 2 sized textures is a good idea (sometimes required), TXI information is optional, and the settings are pretty much self-explanatory. The nature of TPC alpha blending is not necessarily intuitive so you may need to seek information to use it properly.
    How Automatic encoding mode selects encoding for each texture in the queue:
    24bpp TGA = DXT1 32bpp TGA = DXT5 8bpp TGA = 8bpp uncompressed isbumpmap1 or compresstexture 0 in TXI data = 24 or 32bpp uncompressed ============================================================
    Features
    Create cubemaps Create animated textures Automatic compression selection based on trends from the vanilla game DXT1/5 Compression available (requires 2^n texture size) Horizontal/Vertical flip, for those pesky wrongly oriented TGA files Bicubic downsampling for mipmaps (precomputed lower detail versions of the texture, part of the TPC format) Control texture alpha blending setting (part of TPC format), can be loaded from TXI file comments of the form: "# alphablending 0.67"
    Known Issues
    Cannot create uncompressed animated textures. Using 4:1 and wider size ratios for individual frames of animated textures seem to crash the game. 2:1 is fine, 1:4 is fine, etc. Only for converting from TGA to TPC. For TPC to TGA, use Kotor Tool, xoreos-tools, tpcview, etc. Progress bar doesn't update as often as you might want. The package size is large. This is the cost of easy cross-platform GUI support. All electron applications are large like this. You are likely to have problems trying to read TGAs from folders containing markup entities/encoded characters (like ') ============================================================
    Thanks
    DarthParametric for inciting the creation of this tool, and doing the testing.
    DrMcCoy and all the contributors to xoreos, whose TPC decoding implementation provided the basis for the TPC library herein.

    This modification adds high resolution (1K) portrait images for the characters in the Brotherhood of Shadow: Solomon's Revenge modification. The portraits are rendered to match the poses, colors, and lighting of the original images as closely as possible given the following constraints:
    Only vanilla textures (and my own additional maps based on same) are used Because the playable characters can constitute a spoiler for the BoS:SR mod, I've put the list of characters and a combined preview image in the following Spoiler:
    Thanks to Silveredge9 for the blanket approval to use assets from his mods, without which I could not have released this package.
    If you are not using Silveredge9's Brotherhood of Shadow: Solomon's Revenge modification, this modification will not change your game in any way. You should though, because it's really rather good.

    HD NPC Portraits

    v2.0 - 20200119 by ndix UR (DeadlyStream user)

    This modification adds high resolution rendered portrait images for NPCs. The 1K portraits have 256x the resolution of the 64x64 originals. The portraits are rendered to match the poses, expressions, colors, and lighting of the vanilla portraits as closely as possible given the following constraints:
    Only vanilla textures (and my own additional maps based on same) are used While the textures are quite low-res, most of the work was in material setup using a modern rendering engine, so even the vanilla textures still wind up looking much better than they have any right to. This is because of real lights, shading, and material properties, of which the original diffuse textures are only a part. I didn't really redo geometry, beyond appropriate use of edge split and subdivision surface modifiers.
    It also includes 1K versions of the darkened placeholder portraits before you meet characters in-game.

    BONUS
    There's a portrait for Trask Ulgo, because why not. Also I've included additional alternative non-vanilla expressions for Mission & Jolee because I don't care for their vanilla expressions.

    This modification adds high resolution (1K) portrait images for player characters (PCs). All 30 male and female vanilla player characters are provided, with all 5 light-dark variants, for a total of 150 new portraits. The 1K portraits have 256x the resolution of the 64x64 originals. The portraits are rendered to match the poses, colors, facial expressions, and lighting of the original images as closely as possible given the following constraints:
    Only vanilla textures (and my own additional maps based on same) are used A couple face textures had the eye in the wrong place and had to be fixed I reduced the number of background gradients to a set of 4 standards. The originals are all over the place in terms of the gradients and I didn't have time to replicate every one. An effort was made to match each individual set of portraits to its appropriate set of background gradients. While the textures are mostly crap, most of the work was in material setup using a modern rendering engine, so even the vanilla textures still wind up looking much better than they have any right to. This is because of real lights, shading, and materials, of which the original diffuse textures are only a part. I didn't really redo geometry, beyond appropriate use of subdivision surface modifiers.

  8. KotOR High Resolution Menus

    Bubbling up from the font of dark knowledge, ndix UR presents KotOR High Resolution Menus, a UI mod package providing full high resolution menu and UI support for Knights of the Old Republic. The tyrrany of 640x480 menus and 6-item lists is over.
    Normally, when you increase the game's resolution using a widescreen patcher like UniWS, the menus stay very small in the middle of the screen and the borders get larger. This package is designed to be used *after* the widescreen patcher has done its work. It scales the menu screens up so that they fill the screen.
    This package requires modification of the swkotor.exe file using a supplied patcher, and is only known to work with GoG, 4-CD, and macOS (x86) versions of the game. It should be compatible with any Steam version that uses UniWS.
    The main content of the package are sets of GUI files (.gui), scaled for specific resolutions. The package contains GUI files for over 30 common resolutions with the following aspect ratios: 4:3, 16:10, 16:9, 21:9, and 32:9. Here is a list of the currently supported resolutions:

    Installation
    Find the gui.WxH folder matching your resolution, modify your executable using the supplied patcher, copy the GUI files to your Override/ folder.
    The details for this process can be found in the package README.pdf file. Read it. Follow the instructions therein. The documentation includes everything you need to know to manually patch your EXE if the patcher does not work for your version.

    Uninstallation
    Remove the GUI files, restore the original backed up version of your swkotor.exe file.

    IMPORTANT NOTES:
    This is not a resolution hack or widescreen patch, such as you get from using UniWS. You should already be successfully running the game at the resolution you are trying to get menus and UI for. Nothing in this package will give you any additional resolutions available. That is not what this does. If you are trying to get high-res menus for one of the resolutions supported by default (800x600, 1024x768, etc.) there is probably no point to using the GUI files named 'mipc*' provided by this package (mostly the in-game "HUD"), however, this scenario is untested. There are a few of the GUI files in this package you can use without modifying your executable. Here is that 'safe' list, in case you are unable to modify your executable: It gets you the main menu, some dialogs, and the in-game HUD elements.

    Thanks
    DarthParametric for testing, contributing a double-clickable thing for Windows users, and prompting me to finally figure out the needed EXE modifications.
    tk102 for GFF2XML and XML2GFF source code, which made it a lot easier to get this up and running.

    Known Issues
    The patcher is currently incredibly limited, making no effort to search for values, only looking at specific locations where they are in the executables I have access to. This package does not contain any higher resolution artwork. At high resolutions, menu backgrounds will be blocky, and the striped list backgrounds are unlikely to line up with list items. For numerous reasons, you will want to get a high resolution menu art package. The game's initial character selection screen does not lay out the selectable characters properly according to GUI file field values. It is useable, but not perfect. The blue hilight borders had to be removed from around the characters to maintain a clean look. The map screen is scaled up, but the map itself is not. Furthermore, the position of the map within the frame is somewhat random/poorly understood. The map, however, is completely useable, and the points of interest and player indicator are all positioned accurately relative to the map. Some of the 3D models in menus, such as on the character stats or character generation screens, display line artifacts over them. This is caused by the very low quality graphics being scaled up to provide the border overlays. Extracting the graphics as TGAs, scaling them up, and placing them into Override/ sometimes solves these problems. This package omits statussummary.gui and dialog.gui. Scaling them up cause problems. The files don't behave as expected, and it seems to not require a customized version in order for them to work as one would want. You might notice 1280x1080 in 21:9 even though it is not 21:9. It is for split-screen on 21:9 monitors. Rescaling the dialog/cut-scene letterbox (which is optional) seems to introduce occasional issues with letterbox placement, particularly when the letterbox animation happens. This may be fixed at some point in the future. There is no scaling on font size, and as far as I know no one has figured out how to do it, so users on TV/couch setups may not find the help they are looking for with this.
    Upgrading
    1.3 to 1.4:
    If you have Polish version, you can run EXE patching process If you have 32:9 display, copy new .gui files to your Override/ Upgrading
    1.2 to 1.3:
    Copy all the .gui files to your Override/ Upgrading
    1.1 to 1.2:
    Repeat the EXE patching process on a backup EXE if you want letterbox scaling Upgrading
    1.0 to 1.1:
    Remove dialog.gui from your Override/ Copy 1.1 pazaakgame.gui to your Override/

  9. HD UI Menu Pack

    HD UI Menu Pack
    for Knights of the Old Republic

    v1.1 - 20180318
    by ndix UR (DeadlyStream user)

    This modification adds high resolution UI menu textures. 2K is the base resolution.

    The content is redrawn vector art, no modified scale-ups here. It is focused on menu backgrounds, and includes some of the overlay components for the menus.

    Pure Vanilla (PV) Edition aims to provide the closest match to the original menu texture assets.

    This mod doesn't touch a lot of the 'extra' menu-like GUI elements yet, such as the galaxy screen, computer interfaces, pazaak, etc. It also doesn't mess with the main menu at all yet.

    Requirements

    You must be running menus at a high resolution for this to really work. At the default menu size, this mod will probably look bad.

    You must have KotOR High Resolution Menus or an equivalent mod installed for good results.

    Known Issues

    The original textures were for 640x480 menus. The 4x sized textures in this package would look best at 2560x1920, which nobody really uses. If your display is less than 2560px width, you may experience seams where different textures are intended to meet seamlessly. The game just isn't that good at scaling UI textures with alpha channels used for transparency. There's nothing I can really do about it.

    There are some sprites in the menu processes that haven't made it into the package yet. They may sometime.

    I've added x/y clamping to some textures that should have transparent edges over 3D backgrounds. It makes the transparent edges work well, but the diffuse edges work less well. It seems you can't have it both ways, and this is the trade off.

    Install / Uninstall

    To install, copy the files from the package Override/ folder to the Override/ folder for your KOTOR game installation.

    To uninstall, remove the TPC files for this package from your KOTOR game Override/ folder.

  10. Want Kaah Gone: The Commemorative TexturePack

    Want Kaah Gone: The Commemorative TexturePack
    by ndix UR

    Commemorate the release of the M4-78 "Want Kaah Gone" music video... with this handsome, albeit entirely frivolous, custom texturepack. You too can experience the amazing textures used in this wonderful new offering. Proudly display your ardent desire for Kaah to no longer be present with a set of "Want Kaah Gone" datascreen textures to call your very own.

    What?
    You can find the music video here:

    What?
    This silly little mod replaces the data screen textures for the M4-78 archon chambers for IS-24, ES-05, and M4-78.

    Special thanks to Sith Holocron, as the entire project, and these textures, were his idea.

    Author: ndix UR
    Filename: EbonHawk-K1-Fixes-V2.7z

    This mod fixes a number of geometry issues with the Ebon Hawk models used in KotOR. It attempts to plug all the holes in the ship and make it space-worthy.

    Compatibility:
    Likely incompatible with other mods that replace Ebon Hawk model files, but is compatible with other mods that modify the cockpit external views for Ebon Hawk, as this mod does not touch m12aa_01q, the model for those.

    Known Bugs:
    None. It will not work for K2:TSL, which uses different models.

    Installation:
    Place the files in the 'For Override' folder into the Override folder in your game program folder.

    Uninstallation:
    Remove the files from your Override folder.

    Traditional Mandalorian Blades
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    for KotOR 2: The Sith Lords
    This modification adds traditional Mandalorian beskar iron melee weapons, the Beskad and the Kal. The weapons can be found and purchased in-game.
    The weapons have upgradeable Grip and Edge (because I couldn't figure out how to get just Grip upgradeable, which is what would have made sense to me), but they don't mention upgradeability in the description.
    If you prefer different bonuses for the weapons, you can use your favorite GFF editor to modify the UTI files that the installer places in your Override folder.
    I made the models and textures. The textures are 1K in size and relatively simplistic in version 1. The original uncompressed textures, along with UV and AO map overlays, can be found in the Modder's Resource package (it is the same as K1 Modder's Resource package).
    Thanks to JDub96 for requesting this.
  13. Traditional Mandalorian Blades
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Traditional Mandalorian Blades
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    for Knights of the Old Republic
    This modification adds traditional Mandalorian beskar iron melee weapons, the Beskad and the Kal. The weapons can be found and purchased in-game.
    If you prefer different bonuses for the weapons, you can use your favorite GFF editor to modify the UTI files that the installer places in your Override folder.
    I made the models and textures. The textures are 1K and relatively simplistic. The original uncompressed textures, along with UV and AO map overlays, can be found in the Modder's Resource package (it is the same as K2:TSL version's Modder's Resource package).
    Thanks to JDub96 for requesting this, and also to Kexikus for his folder priorities tutorial that helped me realize that .mod takes precedence over .rim ... which was making me go a little insane .
    Re-distribute or re-use this mod as you like, in full or in part.
    COMPATIBILITY
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The modification is designed for use with K1R. Whether it works without it is unknown.

    The modification uses model variation 41 of vibroblade and vibrosword. It will
    not work with other mods that provide w_vbroshort_041 or w_vbroswrd_041.

    The modification MAY be incompatible with other mods that affect Igear in
    Taris undercity (module tar_m04aa), the Mandalorian encounter on Dantooine
    (module danm14ac), or the Mandalorian commander on Kashyyyk.

  14. PMHC06 Fixed for TSL

    Just a fix for the PMHC06 head model (Blond Guy with Bangs?). The model contained some bad node names/linkage which are corrected to match its supermodel, allowing this poor fool to now blink and move his eyes!

    Kind of a quick job, anyone that wants to do a better job is encouraged to do so, using my model as a starting point or not, as they prefer. Feel free to reuse, repackage, redistribute the contents of this package with or without attribution or notification.

    TITLE: PMHC06 Fixed
    AUTHOR: ndix UR
    VERSION: 1.0
    RELEASE DATE: 10/2017

    FILENAME: pmhc06-fixed-tsl.7z

    A modification for Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.

    --------------------------------------
    INSTALLATION
    --------------------------------------

    1. Place ALL the files in the 'Override' folder of this package into your game's Override folder.

    --------------------------------------
    DESCRIPTION
    --------------------------------------

    This mod includes a new model for the Blond Guy with Bangs (PMHC06) model from TSL.
    It fixes the issues outlined in the following forum post:
    http://deadlystream.com/forum/topic/4610-renaming-bones-in-models

    The fixed model has eyes that move and can blink.

    Changes to the model:
    - Nodes renamed:
    eyelidL => eyeLlid
    eyelidL01 => eyeRlid
    eyeL => eyeLA
    eyeR => eyeRA
    teethUP => teethupper
    teethDWN => teethlower
    - Flipped normals on the right eyelid
    - Nudged the vertices under hair_front backwards a tiny bit

    Thanks to 1Leonard and DarthParametric for fleshing out the issues.
    Kudos to DP for the rerig attempt, but that is not the approach I followed.

    --------------------------------------

    --------------------------------------
    COMPATIBILITY

  15. Console M4-2K

    It's the console from M4-78. A high-res, animated take on the vanilla version. Includes an updated model for illuminated surfaces, non-mirrored screens, and restoration of two surfaces that were maybe originally intended to be screens but ended up as flat metallic surfaces. Also includes non-animated options.

    Knights of the Old Republic 2: TSL only.
