M4-78 Enhancement Project has a lot of folks on that Subredddit that really dislike it.

Your April Fools 2018 mission, should you choose to accept it, is to troll the KOTOR sub with an M4-78 Apeiron gag. Something to the effect of "The M4-78 and Apeiron teams are delighted to announce an exclusivity agreement has been reached. Under the terms of the agreement, M4-78: Apeiron Edition will become the sole mod available for Apeiron".

it will most likely never be released for reasons already listed in the reddit and in this thread.

As someone who has previously worked on a large scale fan remake project, it's pretty obvious to me these guys lack the ability to produce anything of any real substance. It will be lucky to ever get to glorified tech demo stage.

You mean like all of those <insert your favorite here> in Unreal Engine projects? :P

As someone who does software, which is exponentially easier to assemble than a game, this does not seem like it has the organization or prioritization to be effective

It's telling that what they have shown is mostly just environment stuff. A trained monkey can make props and level models (I should know, that's what I did in the aforementioned project). The real challenge is in gameplay: combat mechanics, scripting, AI, conversations/dialogue, UI, etc.

Apeiron: the gift that keeps on giving.

It seems their page still hasn't corrected the spelling errors.

These errors have only been on their site for 15 months or so. I even messaged them when I first spotted this because - perhaps I'm anal-retentive?

If we're going to play that game, there are also a slew of grammar errors in that screenshot as well.

In the second sentence, "Engine refresh" should be "Engine refreshes". That same sentence is also missing a comma after 80's, as it is composed of two statements.

The next sentence is also two statements yet has no comma after "Half Life". (technically the word "Half-Life" should also be hyphenated, but that's getting into pedantry)

The next sentence would either need a semicolon instead of a comma after "refresh", or it could be separated into two sentences. The next portion of the sentence would then have a comma between "Aperion" and "since".

Lastly, "it's" should be "its". (the most egregious offence in my opinion)

EDIT-

Hm... It seems I missed one. The phrase "in the Unreal Engine 3" is technically wrong, and should either be "in the Unreal engine" or "in Unreal Engine 3". This is because "Unreal Engine 3" is technically a proper noun.

Would you also put a comma between 'core' and 'Apeiron' in the last sentence?

I wasn't aware that the basic rule for the conjunction 'and' between independent clauses is to put the comma in front of it. Interesting... :) My language wouldn't ever put a comma in such a case, and I don't *think* any of the other languages I know would. Will have to check.

You could put a comma between "core" and Apeiron" in the last sentence, but that would be a matter of sentence flow rather than the reason I chose.

In English, a comma before the conjunction (in this case, "and") is also generally used to separate two statements that are being used as one sentence.

Example: Kotor is pretty old yet it still holds a classic appeal for me.

(the comma would be before "yet" in this example sentence)

It is fascinating that this isn't a universal rule for some other languages, though.

I think I found the only person on earth who has worse spelling and punctuation than me (I think I'm just dreaming with that statement, I'm pretty bad)

I tend to correct spelling on here. I'm facilitating communication!

It's nice to have a hobby.

Black Mesa is a terrible example to use as a comparison. The project was originally a non-profit MOD, and emphasis on 'mod' because Apeiron sure is no mod, and only became released on Steam for $20 after VALVe reviewed the project and gave the mod team permission to release the mod for profit. There's nothing wrong with remaking a game from scratch as a mod for another game. A mod for a game and a stand alone title are two completely different beats in terms of the legality behind them.

And people, let's stop making fun of the Apeiron team for their spelling mistakes; they never bothered to read through their orginal post before they posted it.

Putting the comma before the 'and' is an American english rule only.

Us proper english users would never do such absurd things

Apeiron; Where their spelling is more fun than their game. Which is nowhere near a game after how many years now? Prefab levels a game do not make.

I was contemplating how this is viewed in light of the new changes to the rules regarding porting, uploading, etc. Though, after going over this thread again, it doesn't seem to be on the same low level as the K2 orange mod, or mods of similar and lower quality.

YouTube, out of it's oddly selected video suggestions for me, recommended this video (I haven't seen any kotor stuff in a really long time). I finally gave in and checked it out. It looks like it's coming along. However it's taking a really long time, though that doesn't really speak to where they're really at, just what's available publicly (or however they're handling it).

I feel like I've mentioned this before: EA loves money. I wonder if they realize just how much they could easily rake in by doing a remake of K1, let alone K1 and 2. The cost of remaking both would be made back 10x over with K1 remake purchases alone.

Judging by that video, what they've created so far looks absolutely beautiful. I don't have much confidence in them making an actual game out of it before getting DMCA'd, but I do hope that at some point the assets they've created are released as a "walking simulator" game so that I can just kind of look around at the worlds they've built.

I'm still so skeptical I'll ever get to download any of this and see it myself but my god I want them to succeed so badly. Every time I see stuff from this i feel that nice sense of happy nostalgia.

Yeah, as somebody obsessed with doing KotOR as movies, to me the value of Apeiron really IS just the level design and getting to visualize these worlds in much greater detail than before.

It's been 2.5 years or so. Do they have a vertical slice yet? Have they released any gameplay? A working quest? A working script? Anything besides environments?

Lol no. They are just a bunch of kids playing around in Unreal with emissive textures. They don't actually have any ability to make a game.

Well, they were originally just a bunch of kids playing in Unreal, but recently they either hired or convinced a legitimate professional to help them.

You can see someone reminded them of the fact that they actually need non player characters in.. you know a story-driven game, evident by the character placeholders in their more recent screenshots.

I was pretty skeptical of it at first, but I've started to be impressed with their work lately. I don't think it'll make it to release though.
