Well the good news seem to keep rolling this year. Really glad to see you working on this again. I remember first discovering it years ago and instantly loving the idea. However, doing something this ambitious and looking to release it only as one big package in the end is probably really hard to do. I love the idea of releasing stuff as you go, as you get more direct feedback and appreciation, and we players get to use it earlier. Take as much time with this as you need, I'm still as hyped for this as I was years ago and I can't wait to see what's coming up!

So I'm trying to install Weapon Model Overhaul Texture Rework by Fallen Guardian for Kotor 1 atm. Sadly it needs Toasty Fresh's Weapon Model Overhaul as a base and all links to it that I could find lead to lucasforum.com which is now down. Does anyone still have the mod and could pm it to me? Thanks in advance. Well of course I found it shortly after posting this: http://www.nexusmods.com/kotor/mods/1096/? Sorry for any inconvenience caused, this can be closed.

As many people seem to struggle with this: -Install this as your very first mod, most importantly before K1R, it'll work with K1R if you install it before K1R -Extract the content of the bos_sr_1.0 files. Extracting one will extract the content of each part -Extract the patch into a seperate folder -Go to the tslpatch data folder of the main mod and open changes.ini with your favorite editor -Replace all / with \ -Do the same for the changes.ini in the tslpatchdata folder of the patch -run the installer for the main mod, it should run through without throwing any exceptions -do the same for the patch -install k1r and all your other mods Generally speaking your should always backup your swkotor folder before installing mods so you won't have to reinstall the game all the time.

Thanks I'll play around with those and see what happens. Much appreciated. EDIT: So the first one that actually changed anything for me was fnt_d16x16b. It affects loadscreen text, subtitles, dialog options and the text in the box right of where you choose options. Sadly the game cuts of text once it gets too big and I haven't really been able to figure out a size where it increases subtitle size (my main concern) without cutting of part of the loading screen text. I'll keep playing around with it though and all of that only goes for K1. EDIT2: So just in case anyone is ever interested in making use of this: fnt_d16x16b is the name you wanna use if you are looking to change subtitles like I am. Sadly it's the same one used for loading screen texts so you are quiet limited in terms of size. However, after a lot of fiddling around (you literally have to tweak x,y offset, padding and spacing 1 point at a time for it to look right) I was able to get something that I am satisfied with. Now I haven't tried this past the very beginning of the game, but it has looked fine thus far. At first I tried to use the Old Republic font, but as that has no lower case letters I switched to Bank Gothic, which is very similar besides a few letters. Size 20 seems to be the maximum and I settled on 8 X Offset, 3 Y Offset, 4 Space adjust and 6 X Padding. I'll update this post should I feel forced to change it during my upcoming playthrough. Thanks again to Fair Strides, I have the luxury of being able to play Kotor on my living room tv and being able to read subtitles on higher resolutions can be quiet the pain in the ass. This'll help quiet a bit.

Regardless of what settings I use (font, size etc.) it always produces two files: fnt_dialog16x16.tga fnt_dialog16x16.txi Thanks for the helping out Oh also I put them in my Kotor 1 override folder. Haven't been able to try it with kotor 2 yet.
-
Does anyone know how to get this to work with kotor? I generated some files, but when I place them in my override it doesn't affect the text whatsoever. Would love to use this to increase the font size which becomes quiet tiny on higher resolutions.

That's pretty much what I said. Some prefer to spent their time playing rather than getting something to work, for others like me getting it to work is fun in itself. I think time is a factor for everyone nowadays, I just actually enjoy spending some of mine with solving problems. For me, the button layout isn't the problem (you can use software like 360ce to rebind controller buttons for all games), it's that the way you control it is god awful. Having to constantly force the game to go from the item bar to the combat action bar is really annoying. I honestly had more fun using a mouse bound to the right analog stick for combat or using the Dualshock 4's touchpad as a mouse. I wasn't looking to offend anyone. I was just really disappointed by the update and was just curious as to why people were using it as I saw no advantage whatsoever. As I said, I always managed to get widescreen to work, besides lots of issues when I tried to set it up on my old 720p TV. That goes for both uniws and flawless, I also never had to change any ingame settings due to widescreen... But I guess others might and I can see how not everyone would wish to invest the time to get it to work. Again I wasn't trying to offend you, I just figured you had never played it on an Xbox if you thought the new controller support was fine. I find it quiet unplayable tbh. I also wasn't implying that you weren't using many mods (or whatever is the reason for you feeling like you have to post your mod list), I was just saying that some people may enjoy convenience (out of the box widescreen, steamwork shop etc.) while others might not mind having to put in some extra time. Of course installing mods is always a lot of work and if you feel like I implied that you were lazy then I do apologise for that.

Have you played the original xbox version? I'd much rather set up a custom Dual Shock 4 layout and use that to play Kotor than the joke that they refer to as "controller support", switching between the target thingy and the items bar is a just sad. I guess I can understand the widescreen support if you enjoy plug & play. Personally, setting up a new Kotor playthrough is usually 2 weeks of looking for mods, setting up widescreen and making sure everything works. For me it's part of the experience and I actually enjoy spending hours getting widescreen to work just right. And I only ever had any real issues with widescreen when using a 720p display, but even then I managed to get it to work just fine. I guess it does have a place then, since people seem to enjoy the convenience it adds. It comes down to whether you wanna just go ahead and play or invest a decent amount of time to tweak your experience to what you want to have.

Oh dear please don't. I was quite hyped about their update when it first came out and planned on using it in my next playthrough. But now after watching my gf play it... They introduced some bugs, the controller support is pretty bad when you compare it to the original xbox controls and adding wide-screen support was never that big of a deal without their update. I'd much rather use Kotor Collection, which works flawlessly on modern OS and everything else can be done via mods. Adding controller support via xpadder isn't even significantly worse than what they added... I guess if I really wanted to play Kotor 2 under Linux I'd go with their version...

Please do all party members. One of the worst parts about using mods is that it's so hard to find stuff that looks well together. Right now, if I want to have a reskin for all my party members in either kotor game, I'll probably have to combine several reskin mods, and for some party members like Zaalbar and Hanharr, there are barely any decent reskins at all. I personally rotate through party members in rpgs and try to use all of them equally, so a mod that changes the look of all party members would be super awesome! So even if you feel like you can't contribute much with doing reskins of hk and t3, please work on those as well, even if only so that one can use your mod to update the entire party and have them all look like they fit together. Also really amazing work. I have been watching this thread for a while now and some of your work is among the best I have ever seen in kotor modding. Especially bastilla looks amazing imo. Keep up the great work and I can't wait to do a playthrough once you are done!

Ah that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

Just out of curiosity, is anything on 4 and 64? Seems kinda odd to skip those.

Question for about the TSLRCM exclusive credit video
l2daorch replied to Sith Holocron's topic in TSLRCM
Just be sure, you mean the file called CreditTSLRCM.bik, right? It's 1920x1080. -
Yes that's what I was talking about. Thanks.

Does anyone know if you have to to the hex editing with the aspyr version? I used the hex stuff last year with the dvd collection version and it worked just fine. Sadly, using aspyr's version I can't find either of the two strings in question, I'd imagine this is due to them heavily modifying the exe. Any help?

Pretty sure we had a thread about that like yesterday? Either way, it'll probably get taken down by Disney anyway. I wish people would learn to just finish their game and release it. Announcing it beforehand almost always ends up with it getting taken down.

Well your install order is meant to be 4CD -> TSLRCM -> M4-78 By what you say I'm guessing that you didn't patch TSL before installing the mods. That could lead to all sorts of issues, google TSL patch 1.0b. You should always install that right after TSL. Afaik both mods come with their own installer nowadays, so I'd imagine that you did use those to install the mods? Also what's your influence on your party members? If you your Influence is < 50 their Alignment will become opposite to yours. So the darker you get the lighter they'll be and vice-versa.

Do you have a download link for that? I can't find it on any of my HDDs anymore.

Even though I'm not OP, this is really great. Thank you so much Fair Strides! I also highly agree that more beginner friendly tutorials would be amazing! Even though I'm not actively looking into getting into Kotor Modding atm, I'd definitely be more tempted to do so if I knew that there were a lot of great tutorials.

Does what you showed remove the regular text opening entirely or does it show up afterwards? Either way I thought it was pretty nice. Would you mind doing a bit of a longer video where you show how it transitions into the tutorial?

I love the idea of implementing some sort of fight between Atris and Nihilus. I still remember visting the official website every day and getting hyped for the game. I was very confused that Nihilus and Atris never really met during the game, let alone had an epic fight. I'm not quit sure how you'd implement it into the story as Atris is being dealt with before Nihilus attacks Telos, though I'd imagine that that could be switched with a bit of work. I think the cutscene you showed was shown around the time you face what's left of the council on Dantooine the last time I played, not sure if it's part of TSLRCM or some other mod I used. I really liked it and thought it added a lot to the game. However, I do think that it might be manageable to put it earlier with a bit of editing and you can obviously do a lot by captioning Nihilus (though you'd have to caption all of his dialog in that case imo, not just for that specific cutscene). Though the beginning about TSL is all about figuring out wtf is going on and for people who played K1 to figure out what happened in between the two games. I'm not quit sure if such an introduction cutscene wouldn't break that tension and mystery feel of the beginning. I do think that Visas cutscene should stay where it is. I always thought it made a lot of sense for her to show up the next time you visited the hawk. In vanilla, Nihilus isn't really introduced before that (unless you farm enough Kreia influence to unlock the dialogue about Sion/Nihilus) and I always felt like the Visas scene was a great introduction for both characters and their relationship. Generally speaking, I do agree that there should be more scenes where you get to see what the Sith Lords are up to. Kinda how you have several cutscenes with Atris and also similiar stuff with Malak in K1. Whether that's in the opening or throughout the game is a different story. I'd love to try either option to feel out which ones feels better. Maybe do a very rough version where you simply play the cutscene as it is before the opening crawl to see how it would feel?

Played the beta for about 12 hours. I thought it was pretty fun, graphics and sound are obviously pretty darn awesome. Now I might be slightly biased because I have been waiting for this for about 10 years. And I'm not talking battlefront 3, I'm talking star wars games. Really awesome star wars games. When a new Jedi Academy, Kotor 3, Battlefront 3, Imperial Commando etc were canceled/didn't happen a part of me died. I grew up playing mainly star wars games and suddenly I was left with a bunch of Clone Wars Games, the occasional handheld/mobile game, 1 decent force unleashed and a mediocre follow-up and an MMO that (to me) raped KOTOR while telling me to pay 15 bucks a month to get to watch (before it went f2p). So to me it's been about 10 years (or maybe 9) since the golden age of awesome star wars games came to an end. And boy have I been waiting patiently for this. Now I'm usually very critical about the games I play, but if you put star wars on it I'll play anything and probably have a great time doing so. So I was gonna love battlefront either way, but I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. The controls are pretty iffy (console) as I never accepted Left Trigger being zooming. However, I was able to get my original Xbox S Controller to work and also managed to get a control scheme going that felt right, thank god that they let you decided between hold zoom and toggle zoom. The gameplay felt really good. Movement speed was ok, could be faster. Field of View was pretty sweet, jump height could be higher. Kill Times were alright but could have been a bit slower, headshots do give a nice juice multiplier though. The snipe felt pretty sweet and I hope that they keep it 2 shot to the body and 1 shot to the head. The lack of ADS is my favorite part though, I love classic zoom. I don't like how nades explode after a set time, but the way you throw them is pretty sweet compared to most fps nowadays. I was sad to see sprint in (i know it was in the original, I just really hate sprint in games), but it didn't feel that much faster than regular walking so I was ok with it. Card system felt nice, I really enjoyed farming those credits to buy something new, though I wish you could put any card in any slot as I would have loved to use grenade + snipe + jet pack. Also the jetpack is probably the best that I have ever seen in any fps. One quick super jump is so much better than, for example, what Halo has been doing. I don't really care wether they use the card system or the original battlefront's class system. Though as kids love customization nowadays it's probably good that they use this new system. Power ups for vehicles being on spots on the map rather than you walking up to that vehicle is fine with me, I don't really enjoy vehicular combat anyway. However, I prefered battlefront 2's system of granting hero to someone performing well rather than it being a random powerup on the map. The other powerups for thermal imploder, orbital strike etc. working the way they did was ok with me as well, most of them felt pretty useless anyway. I very much so preferred the smaller map over hoth, but both were pretty fun though I never quite got the hang of air battles. I'm very much so looking forward to the final game coming out, though I'll probably wait for a sale before I pick up the 50 $ season pass. I personally think 50 bucks is way too much, but that's what sales are for and I really don't mind paying 10-20 bucks for DLC if it's actually good dlc, if not I'll simply not buy it. Some people are acting like EA is forcing you to pay those 50 bucks. Also I really enjoyed dedicated servers and simply choosing which gamemode you wanted to play, I for one am not a big fan of server browsers and I'm very glad that they made matchmaking the way it is. The 1/2vsAI mission was also alright, though I don't really see the point in playing them. I don't mind the lack of campaign as battlefront has always been a multiplayer focused game for me. I for one am not even mad that EA got the star wars license. I just want at ton of star wars games, and I'm pretty sure that that's what they'll give me. And I think that Bioware/Dice/Visceral Games are capable of giving me games that are superior to most of the star wars game crap that has come out since 05/06. Of course they are in it to make a ton of money, every publisher is. I don't really think EA is any more "evil" than ubisoft, microsoft, activision etc. And I for one preferred battlefront over a lot of fps that came out in the last few years. People really need to stop comparing the games' features to battlefront 2, this is a reboot not a continuation. I very much so prefer solid gameplay/good menus/good netcode etc. over having clone wars characters or not. Also the original clone wars was original trilogy only as well and I'd say EA would be very stupid if they didn't use clone wars as a selling point for Battlefront 2 and 7-9 as selling point for Battlefront 3. But that's just my opinion and I can totally understand that someone who has been looking forward to what he imagined would be battlefront 3 might be somewhat upset right now, but I just want fun Star Wars games, and battlefront will give me just that.

Getting the most out of Planet M4-78EP
l2daorch replied to RupertGiles's topic in M4-78 Enhancement Project
Go to your kotor 2 folder. Open the modules folder. If you have mod files called 801DRO - 809DRO in there you should be fine. Alternatively you can use warp cheat codes to warp to those areas to see if they work. -
KotOR Re-Release Inbound?
l2daorch replied to ChrisC26's topic in Knights of the Old Republic General
Both being completely butchered in many areas, and the first's multiplayer being a map pack for one of the worst halos of all time (I'm not eve gonna begin to talk about that collection that is still fairly broken 9 months post launch). I'd also say that it's a lot more likely for Microsoft to milk their #1 xbox cash cow than for kotor remakes to happen. Also can I please get that Jedi Knight game, Imperial Commando, the real Battlefront 3 and all those other games that were cancelled? Still salty over what LA did for like the last 10 years, just thinking about all those games that could have come out... While I wouldn't mind an HD Collection/HD Remake or whatever, this does seem somewhat fishy (I have bought this game like 5 times at this point and I wouldn't mind having a 6th version, just more excuses to start another playthrough). I'd also rather see Aspyr give K1 the K2 treatment and make that update available for GOG/Collection/4CD. With the right mods, Kotor is already HD enough for me and they'd probably either ruin gameplay by making it more "modern" (aka dumbing it down) or they'd ruin the story by making it closer to swtor's screwed up version of it.
