  1. Anyone have any documentation on creating new area models?

Uh, I've been meaning to do something like this. I have an old tutorial from Quanon if you want it. If you PM me I'm happy to answer questions you might have.

That's because he is pulling it out of his colon.
  3. Well, I can't unsee this now. Definitely will install this for my next playthrough!
  4. So two wrongs must make a right then?
  5. Have you tried not posting inflammatory things, accusing people of asskissing, calling people fanboys if they don't agree with you etc? Might improve your quality of life tenfold. I'm not an internet-moderator, nor do I have any problem with any form of speech as long as they add something of value to the discussion. If a post that adds inherent value to a conversation is removed and the poster is banned I would call it silencing them, as it prohibits them from speaking their mind and convincing the opposition of their viewpoint. So my question here is: Is that the case here? What did this post add to the discussion that was valuable? If it did not add anything new to the discussion and was solely posted there to get a rise out of certain people I wouldn't call it an unfair decision or "abuse".

The reason why projects like this upset a lot of people around here is because this project is riding on the coattails of one of this forums' favourite games. This wouldn't be that bad if it did justice to its source material but however they have proven by now that they do not plan on doing it justice: the art design does not match op with KotOR's at all, the play style does not resemble anything found in KotOR, the first thing they decide to show is a new fps element which could not be further from one of the design philosophies of KotOR, or any RPG: using your brain instead of your brawn. KotOR is a thinking man's game where you play a role, think about the game's universe and can min-max your characters if you want, it is not a mindless shooter. Combine this with shady practices on the legality of the project, an unclear stance on donation practices (I don't count "we don't accept donations but this might change" as a complete refusal of donations) and the fact that we've been repeatedly bombarded recently with the same information (generic screenshots, almost no gameplay, bs promises that they will not be able to make true) and you have a recipe for disaster. And finally: you say that this project will not take anything away from the original. I beg to differ. I can see people looking at wanting to see what KotOR is all about, seeing this """""remake""""" and deciding to wait for it to come out/the end of the world. A project like this that does not pay homage to its source material will only be detrimental to our modding community which flourishes on the interest in the game and new people playing it and modding it, because it parasitizes on the same audience.
  8. And as I explained, it would necessitate a complete remodel of every model with new uvmaps for the texture, which is close to imposible. Plus, I don't know if the engine could handle so much more polygons.
  9. That would contain a complete remodel of all models in the game to contain more polygons. So no. I mean, the game is over ten years old by now, most of it has held up amazingly well.
  10. Source: my thumb. Any bets on when this thing is going to crash and burn?
  11. This basically looks like a collection of mods posted here combined with that russian kotor mod (which in turn is a cobbled together mess of stolen work). Which parts of this are your own, original work?
  12. Finished Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal yesterday, what a journey it was.

Have you played the EE version or the original? There are many excellent modifications for both.

Played the EE version. And yes, as far as I know, most if not all mods are compatible with it. I'm going to take a break from infinity engine games though, played through Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate I and II one after the other. I'll certainly revisit them though! And I still have to play the Icewind Dale series sometimes.

  13. Looks like a lot of hard work went into this, good job!
  14. Only reason I know of KotOR is because my father gave it to me for Christmas in 2004 because he liked Star Wars. Also I have both KotOR and TSL on every platform imaginable Excuse the colorful language. I meant the general attitude: "I'm going to do something you don't like because of something outside of your control, if you don't want that to happen I suggest you contact Steam". It seems counterproductive to scare your users into following your cause, without really explaining yourself why they should follow you. But that's just my opinion.
  15. There you go again with your assumption BS: I explained earlier that I like the fact that I can install the mods to the workshop folder, delete it, and have the game immediately reverted to vanilla. Do I like it enough to force HH to do whatever? No, and I never forced him to do anything, I merely adviced. If you feel I did force or threaten him I implore you to find that post and send it to me. I don't disagree with you, neither do I disagree with the gripes HH has. But I think that the method (figuratively holding your mod hostage) might not be the best one.
  16. So you said, and I already showed you that your hypothesis is incorrect since I, a Steam user (and GOG user as well btw), have been around for almost as long as the KotOR modding scene has. Could it possibly be that there are more users like me on Steam that enjoy the Restored Content Mod being posted there but have also followed the creation of it since its inception? What if someone was eight when the game launched and only just heard about it and its mods because of the recent rerelease on Steam and different platforms? Are they then not allowed to have an opinion because of factors outside of their own control? What if someone just didn't know the game existed back then but is now enjoying it immensely? Or if they only heard about the possibilities of modding just now? Are you seriously suggesting to just say: "Well then, sucks to be you." and leave it at that? Like I argued before, such an approach would be detrimental to this community. Any community. You say it's "obvious" that users on Steam have not followed this mod for that long. Where do you get that information? You jumped to conclusions judging me, and you jump to conclusions judging them. Now you're misrepresenting my arguments as being situated around a singular thought "It would be petty". That's not true at all, I understand where HH is coming from but I believe his proposed action to be an ineffective one, I have even given an alternative way that HH could have followed, illustrating why his proposed action would not lead to his desired outcome. Besides this, I have repeatedly tried to explain why the thought process of us versus them and they are not real fans is wrong and why I believe that kinds of rhetoric to be bad for KotOR modding in general.
  17. Oh wow. I've been around since before Team-Gizka started and spent my days refreshing the page hoping for a new update. I released my first mod (which was nonsense) under a different account in 2006: a remodeled Zabrak pc head which got absolutely blasted, but I learned a lot doing it, and had fun. Don't presume to know people just because you read a couple of their posts. Furthermore, TSLRCM has not been in production for "over ten years", the idea of restoring the cut content has been, but the first release of TSLRCM was, what, 2010? 2009? No one here presumes to "own" HH for sticking with him and the rest of the team for all that time and tell him what to do and not to do, they merely have the freedom to advice him, speak their mind and agree or disagree, which apparently is something you have a problem with. Honestly, your few posts here make you come across as a vile human being. If you get worked up to the point of calling other people losers for not agreeing with you, you should probably take a break. Go outside. Have a run. Whatever floats your boat.
  18. I get what you're saying, I've been playing the Baldur's Gate saga for the past months (at Throne of Bhaal right now) and that practice is present there as well. Honestly I don't really mind either way but I get why people would be irritated by the inconsistency.
  19. If you look at the Steam discussion you can already see the first reactions of the users themselves, it being received as petty is not just a random guess but there was already objective evidence for it. Furthermore as I explained earlier the way that HH tried to conduct this protest was not conducted bottom-up but rather from the top-down with him deciding on a thing without the users being informed of the exact motivation. If we look at a similar protest (2012 blackout in protest of PIPA and SOPA) you see a different dynamic with the users actually being informed on the how, why, and what they can do to stop the proposed rules. None of these elements were present in this case. Lastly, I don't think anyone here would hold it against HH if he did remove it, we al know the hard work he put into it and he is one of the current caretakers of this mod. However, I also gave several arguments about why I believe this protest would not be effective and even work against him. To suggest that the "uprising" as you put it on this forum means that users here are in Steam's grasp and/or can't think for themselves is not arguing in good faith. I don't get how you come to this conclusion? It's a jump in logic and seems to come down to: "If you don't agree with this you don't understand it, therefore you're wrong." I do. Quite frankly, everyone should. The way to keep an online community healthy is not by shutting people out who aren't as experienced as you are. The KotOR modding community is over ten years old and has been through several places (Lucasfiles, Lucasforums, Starwarsknights, kotorfiles, DeadlyStream) and it is still vibrant, with new mods and even new tools coming out. That's a very rare thing as there are games with modding tools included which don't get nearly as much mods (if at all) as we do, and we don't even have official tools! Everyone who reads this, ask yourselves: ten years ago, were you part of the "elite hardcore gamers" or were you "casual"? Maybe you were too young. Maybe you didn't know about the game or its modding community. How did you start modding? Did you follow a tutorial, or did you already know everything there was to know about the way the game reads files, skinning, modelling, scripting. The reason why I believe a forum like this should exist is both showing of your work and helping others with theirs. If that was not the case, then why do we have the option to create threads with questions about modding? Why not just create a central release thread for everyone to release their work and call it a day without further interaction? Because that would be detrimental to this community, that's why. I don't know about you, but I'd like to see this community thrive for five, ten, twenty years more. The way to do that is not by taking an elitist approach of us versus them and looking down on people who don't know as much as you do. Rather, we should reach out and at least give new users the same information we got when we began. Who knows, perhaps the creator of a new total conversion mod, Malachor Overhaul mod, or Ithorian party member mod might be in there waiting for their time to shine.
  20. Yeah, them saying that you'd need the original game to play this is BS as well, seeing as how they aren't using any of the files of the original game. How does this thing constitute as a mod? it doesn't
  21. Could you perhaps explain why you think I'm misinterpreting HH? FWIF: I do not think getting a ban for calling someone a "cocksucker" is "being treated like crap".
  22. All banks I know use two point verification, what exactly is wrong with safety? And this "opt-out" you propose is not a bottom-up one proposed by the users but rather imposed by you from the top-down. If you look at the Protests against SOPA and PIPA there were genuine issues that were discussed by the userbase for weeks on end before sites decided to either take itself off the air in protest to these proposals with only a page explaining why, or to add functionalities to their sites to inform unknowing users on said issue. Your proposed opt-out will not lead to either of these two things, but only to one thing: your users will get irritated. Maybe you're hoping that their anger at their unplayable game will be turned to Valve, but it probably won't. Because they don't know why their game is suddenly unplayable. Now run with me for a second: What if you wrote that blog post I suggested a couple of posts back? We have the author of one of the most expansive and (dare I say) best mods ever, one that's also approved by the author of a very popular game. Said game is one of the best in a brand that recently had a huge uprising after a new film. We have a big corporation with millions of users who is about to force its userbase to adhere to an arbitrary new rule. We have CENSORSHIP for crying out loud! The establishment against one lone individual? The internet eats all that stuff for breakfast. In short, we have all the elements that are needed to create perfect protest under the users. If you had written a blog post and circulated that through the popular subreddits and the KotOR subreddit, for example, the media would have immediately picked up on that. Loads of users who aren't involved in KotOR and its mods would have been informed of your cause. Instead you decide to threaten your own fans and users. You see my problem here? That's what's perceived by the twothousandsomething subscribers to your mod. Now, there are two reasons I can think of why you would not write that blog post, either: 1. You didn't think of it because of a certain reason, emotional or logical or whatever, or just didn't want to put time in writing a blog post. 2. You didn't want your cause to be scrutinized by certain people who visit said huge subreddits. Perhaps what you perceive to be as problems aren't as big of a problem as you think? Personally, I think you have a case here, but as I said, this is not a very good way to go about it.
  23. Read the thread again and don't jump to conclusions A Steam user in his steam discussion thread provided him with an open source and free program able to receive those trade confirmations. He also provided several other options, none of which cost money.
  24. Oh please... Give me a break. Opening with calling people cocksuckers? How exactly is that the "talking path". Seriously, calling people names? Is that your idea of a discussion? Opening a discussion would be creating a blog post with you explaining who you are and what your grievances with Steam are and then sharing that post through game journalist outlets and the big gaming subreddits. I also don't get how this is the "lesser of evils". Even IF you would consider Valve an evil(which I do not), what you're planning won't replace that evil with a smaller one, but just add to it. Also quite frankly I'm amazed by the willingness of the DeadlyStream users here to jump on this bandwagon. I always considered the ease of use for the users a big priority, together with the fun making your mod. The point of releasing your mod is having a large amount of players being able to use it, right? Right now it seems more like you're projecting your inability to trade onto your mod. Looking from Valve's perspective I can see where they're coming from. Almost everyone currently has access to a smart device to confirm their transactions on. In the steam thread a user even gave you an open source program you can use to confirm transactions: WinAuth. I can understand your frustrations, but I'm asking you, and all of DeadlyStream: what seems more reasonable, you using WinAuth if you don't have a smart device, or 200.000+ users losing access to the mod?
