Star Wars Episode VII Discussion (MASSIVE SPOILERS)
VarsityPuppet replied to VarsityPuppet's topic in Star Wars
Except the Starkiller base was mentioned very early in the movie. Hux mentions something about a weapon being ready. Can't remember which scene though, I'd have to watch it for a third time. But it is mentioned a few times before it is actually shown. It's hard to catch though because Hux is hardly the most interesting character and whenever he spoke I just sort of replaced it with "blah blah First Order, blah blah, New Republic" If you're weary of super weapons, that's fine, but I guess I wouldn't say they pulled it out of their asses in the third act. Is it a bit abrupt? Maybe. Is the presence of a super weapon established though? Yes. I would say in terms of plot though, destroying the Starkiller base was not the main focus: saving Rey was. The Resistance flying around in their X-wings trying to blow up a thing happened mostly in the background while Finn, Rey, Han and Chewie were doing other things, and the focus remained on them. The Resistance probably only got less than a minute of screentime at a time (I'm talking when attacking the Starkiller base). Anyways.... Just watched it for the second time and noticed a few things. 1) I don't think there's a thing with Chewie and Leia. They hug the first time they see each other, and later when Chewie supposedly walks away, it looks more like he is following Finn, as they take him to a med bay or something. 2) Originally, I thought Rey acquiring Anakin/Luke's light saber and suddenly gaining wicked lightsaber skills was not great. After second viewing, she isn't really fighting Kylo Ren all that well, until she gets her "Force Nirvana" moment and lands a few skilled blows on him. This part is settled for me now. 3) I noticed this the first time, but Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd was one of The Resistance officers. Fun stuff. -

Sorry, I forgot the sarcasm tags. That scene was NOT good. BB-8 though, that's how you do droid humor in a film. I agree. It was a good death, and a very dramatic scene, but I also can't help but think there's something missing. Like maybe he shouldn't have fallen off the bridge into that weird fog... or.. idk Yeah, I've been hearing things that Chewie is mad at Leia for some reason, though maybe it's just a fan theory. I'd have to watch again to confirm. Certainly an interesting idea, I hope there's some sort of beef between them. -

Are these actually your favorite scenes or is this just another thing where TFA is the exact same as ANH? Just wanted to check. Whaaaat? His mishaps in the Droid Factory in Episode II were hilarious though!!! -

Only a bad thing for certain franchises I think. Mainly the Jedi Knight Series, though to be honest the better idea would be to modify that story with Kyle Katarn to something that fits their timeline more closely. And Knights of the Old Republic or also roughly that general era. The Sith species, Korriban, Ulic Qel Droma, that whole lot. -

The texture is compressed. Save it without compression first and then use the converter. -

I've seen more "If you like this, you're a mindless OT Fanboy" than the opposite. Going back to modding now. Have fun tearing each other apart! -

And here I thought this would be a fun and engaging conversation about plot theories and where people think the rest of the trilogy is headed... -

I fail to see how it's a remake of A New Hope. Similar plot elements? Yes Parallels drawn? Yes But it doesn't have the same story as A New Hope, therefore it can't really be a remake. Also not a reboot because it's in the same universe. It's less stupid than General Grievous, Count Dooku, Savage Oppress As for Kylo Ren, I'm glad that they took off his mask and that he wasn't horribly disfigured. No need to draw even more parallels from the Original Trilogy by having a bad guy that's exactly like Darth Vader, right? As for blowing up planets... yeah, that's... been done, hasn't it? -
Thus the term, "Teaser"

That's a bit over-simplified. But not the same desert planet, and not under the same circumstances. Yeah, hard to argue that one. Since when is there ever NOT a planet-destroying super-weapon though? Three I believe. It was a planet. X-wings destroy everything, don't they? Yes, but under different circumstances. They're not age-old enemies like Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. They're Father and Son (yeah, I know, recurring theme). But that's become such a common trope, you can't say that it's only a Star Wars thing at this point. True Cantina, Entrusting vital information with a droid. To be fair, I imagine both are common things in the Star Wars universe. Pretty much every bar is going to have aliens in it. And storing information in droids is probably a very common use case. Take this electronic deposit to the bank for me BB-8. beep boop beep Joking aside, I do understand that there are a lot of similarities to the Original Trilogy, but saying it's a reboot of A New Hope is an over-simplification, in my opinion. -

That's actually a really good point. Initially, that was one of the parts of the movie that I found to be... sort of weird. Like sure go figure, Rey just happens to begin learning of these Force powers and she's of course, a natural at it, with no prior training. But I totally get where you're coming from. Adding the mysticism back in adds a nice touch, and also helps to establish a new precedent for Force usage. I've been spending too much Star Wars time in Knights of the Old Republic, and consequently, the EU, where the Force rules are pretty well-established. I understand a little better the decision to clean house... ... That said, I still hold that unless something directly conflicts with the movie canon, it can still co-exist. There's always been a certain degree of separation between the movies and EU anyways. Next time I go see it, I'll have to watch it through a different lens He was the "big" weird-looking guy that would talk to Kylo Ren. -

Yes, but to be fair, they can't technically be rehashes because those characters don't exist in the movie universe. There were a lot of similarities between this and the original trilogy, yes. I wish they'd tried to make a more unique story, particularly for the third act, but I don't think the result was all that bad. -
In roughly one year, we get our first Star Wars anthology film: Don't worry, doesn't give away anything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0eEKDfLNPg What do you guys think? Is a spin-off film going to work? Will they establish an aesthetic that is similar to the original trilogy or try to redesign too much? Sound off

WARNING: MASSIVE SPOILERS For spoiler-free discussion, go to this thread: here I'll start things off... ...Man, how about that opening crawl and scene? Star Destroyer completely eclipses Jakku? Oh my God, that was so cool and set the tone for the movie. Guys, this has set the precedent for the next couple of years. Definitely seeing this at least twice more Rogue One, Episode VIII, Episode IX, Han Solo + Boba Fett solo movies?

Glad to hear! I'll hopefully be updating the Green Lightsaber bug real quick here, but the Dxun Veteran is intended to be the Duplisaber default single hilt for the game.

Whoa whoa whoa... Just call me VP, we're all friends here I'm confused because I never commented on that Steam thread at all. I commented on this post, which Damned posted as an example he's seen from another forum. This is not a matter of that this person was not imbued with knowledge, but that this statement was made out of ignorance. The implication here is that the change to get aforementioned Square-Enix game to run on Nintendo would be a "simple" fix. If this was person was sensible, maybe they shouldn't have implicitly stated that this was a "simple" fix, and instead should have asked "how hard would it be to change the game code to run on it?". Also, did you not gather from our reactions that these tasks are in fact, not easy? I wish that was the moral of the story. Apparently I got called out for responding to a quote that wasn't on a Steam thread, but brought up in natural conversation. The moral of the story is haterz gon' hate. P.S. Delete his post
