Success. Separated Atris head with proper smoothing. This is the same Atris head I separated long ago, around the time of HeadFixer. I've included Atris' Head as a modder's resource for download. No permissions required. http://http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/773-modders-resource-atris-head/ I may include an install package to replace Atris' Full body model at some later point.

The vertex shading seems to be working fine there. What you're seeing is the teeth mesh clipping through the skin. Also, the eyes are wonky AF

Hey, these are all looking pretty good! Right in time for a soon to come mdlops update!
-
Why not? Vertex normals are pretty common to most 3D engines, and clearly the Odyssey engine was making use of them. The way I see it, it was just a feature that was not implemented properly in mdlops and KAurora.
-
The textures look good, but they're a little on the "flat" side. Could just be the screenshots though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
Who's ready to get rid of the annoying rough seams in KOTOR models exported from mdlops? We've cracked the code!
-
1Leonard is correct. You'll still need HeadFixer, but we are in the process of updating mdlops to export with correct smoothing groups. Going to run a few models in the meantime

Good news! Turns out, I'm terrible with mixing up override files... Before: After: Fixed! There are still some loose ends though. The algorithm being used for vertex normals is not the optimal for visual experience. More is explained here. On the other hand, if 3DSmax is exporting normal info, then we might as well just use that Basically, what we need to do (and I feel yet again that Fair Strides has already mentioned this in the past) is, check the smoothing groups for faces and overlapping vertices and factor those into vertex normal calculations. If 3dsMax already does this properly, we are good to go. Just gotta update that mdlops
-
Yes. Reading the ascii vertices and faces and then computing the vertex and face normals, then writing a custom mdx file to disk. I'm using C# to parse a section of the ascii data and write it as mdx data

I've been running tests on a low poly model, 8 vertices total. It's a pyramid with no bottom, one side is a detached mesh. So of the 8 verts, 3 are duplicates. Anywho, I've been playing around with generating the vertex normals, only to have no real changes done to the model in-game. So I'm led to believe that I must be calculating them wrong? Not sure ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Gents, One of the many loose ends in modeling for KOTOR is those pesky modeling seams on custom models. For most uses, they're not that visible, but it's especially jarring if displayed on a head model. So this is where Fair Strides and I are at currently. 1) Extracted PMHC01.mdl and PMHC01.mdx from KotorTool. 2) Use Mdlops6 to decompile, get ascii 3) Recompile the ascii to make PMHC01-ascii-k2-bin.mdl and PMHC01-ascii-k2-bin.mdx (compile with super model s_female01) 4)Place PMHC01-ascii-k2-bin.mdl and PMHC01-ascii-k2-bin.mdx into the override (rename to PMHC01.mdl and PMHC01.mdx) 5) Take the original non-modified version of PMHC01.mdx and put that into the override, replacing the new compiled version and the result is... FIXED. M*THER. F*CKING. SEAMS. So the key to fixing the smoothing on models is in the mdx, we believe. The issue we're still having though is... what part of the mdx data controls the seams? In a test model, we've been playing with calculating vertex normals with no real success in eliminating seams. Could it be we're calculating vertex normals incorrectly? Not sure yet. What I do know is that in contrast to our test mdl which has 32 bytes of vertex information, the head model has 64 bytes of information, that information I'm not entirely sure what that is yet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyways, this will just be a progress thread. Anyone is welcome to contribute, files are attached below. I'll be looking at the PMHC01.mdx files to see what different information is included that is smoothing out these meshes. You're right. Things could have been a lot worse. Seems like he derailed 1313 though because of his involvement though.

Was that game really that bad? I mean, at least they got a good voice actor for Darth Vader? Also, unrelated, but I always think of this video whenever fan-fiction is brought up. Highlight: "And they all kissed Kevin and got super-pregnant!"

What is the fastest way to build your lightsaber? (possible spoiler?)
VarsityPuppet replied to Sogazu's topic in TSLRCM
I usually go to Nar Shaddaa... though I don't know if that is actually the fastest way to get a lightsaber. -

This one has grown on me. They play a similar theme other places in the movie, but this is what they play when Rey, Chewie and R2 land on Rakata Prime Unknown World wherever Luke is, Rey climbs the steps and the infamous last scene where Rey extends the lightsaber to Luke. -
See.the section in the video about the Darth Maul game. Or The Force Unleashed. Darth Insanius Darth Talon and Darth Maul being "friends" Cringe

I was. At first I was trying to make an EU cross saber by moving dummies with Hex magic. Turns out quaternions are a biiiitch. So then I came to the solution you probably used (replacer) and had a prototype working. I was missing some of the meshes because the guards weren't showing at certain angles. Either way, less work for me

Damn, beat me to it. Well back to Duplisaber.

Unfortunately, the lesson they might take away from this is Star Wars games don't sell and stop making them completely. Except for Disney Infinity of course.
-
We could have focused on other projects instead But that is a good point. Modding all these years is what has gotten me interested in programming to begin with. I would not be where I am right now if LucasArts had followed through on these deals.

Here's an interesting video on Star Wars gaming, chronicling many of the cancelled LucasArts games. If you needed reaffirmation that George Lucas should not be in charge of Star Wars anymore, watch this video. As a quick preview, George Lucas wanted to un-ironically wanted to give Galen Marek a proper Sith title as - wait for it - DARTH INSANIUS. smdh

Star Wars Episode VII Discussion (MASSIVE SPOILERS)

Way to be a buzz kill I mean, I'm sure that's an abridged map, out of necessity and convenience. Certainly they can't fit all of the established canon planets on there and I'm sure more planets will be added as more backstory is established. It's possible too that some planets are not noteworthy as they're no longer inhabited? I admittedly don't know much about The Clone Wars in the first place. Hard to say. Could be a completely new event not chronicled, could be an homage to The Battle of Malachor V, or it could be a "rebranding" of The Battle of Malachor V. A "Scourge" definitely would suitably describe The Battle of Malachor V. In that Reddit thread, other people noted Ossus and Tython as possibilities too. The inclusion of Rakata Prime in that map seemed rather suspect though as it previously hadn't been referenced in any other canon post-EU cleanse. Onderon and Dantooine have apparently been referenced in The Clone Wars. Either way, it's a nice nod to us KOTOR fans, as we continue to cling to canon That would be pretty cool if they tied this new plot to Knights of the Old Republic. It seems improbable at this point but we can still hope. I'm not sure of Snoke being an ancient Rakatan, but anything is possible I suppose. It seems more likely that he is some form of Darth Plagueis (a some other theories have pointed out). -
-
There are some small connections yes, I think they might be slowly reintroducing elements of KotOR Lore, to say it's all canon would be too early. But you're right, there is *something* going on there.
-
I had heard rumors they were recanonizing KotOR with the new canon a while back but didn't put much stock in them. Good to see.

Star Wars Episode VII Discussion (MASSIVE SPOILERS)
VarsityPuppet replied to VarsityPuppet's topic in Star Wars
Holy. Crap. I don't know if anyone has seen this, but the planet that Luke Skywalker is on at the end of the movie may be Rakata Prime. It's not that big of a stretch, and it seems to have been debunked for now... But, check out this segment from the wiki page on Rakata Prime Here's the map from The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary • Rakata Prime is on the right hand side, in the Unknown Regions • Other notable inclusions are: Onderon, Moraband(Korriban) Next, look at this entry on The lightsaber was crudely assembled based on an ancient design dating back thousands of years to the Great Scourge of Malachor, and thus featured seldom-seen crossguard blades. -

Ah yeah, I quite enjoyed Scream Queens. In fact, I've become quite a fan of Billie Lourd and her Princess Leia antics. It'd be nice to see more of her in Star Wars for sure. Billie Lourd as Lt. Connix (left) Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa (right) Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa (left) Billie Lourd as Sadie Swensen aka Chanel #3 (right) It looked more epic originally because of the presence of lightsabers. Actually, thinking about it more, it would have been a bit disappointing if they made the lightsaber fighting too much on the "newbs w/lightsabers" side. LOL you and your logic "The Force Awakens", who would've thought?
