  1. Sorry I was too late to be of any help. You mean the guy in the room with the dancers and Bith? Try talking to him on a female playthrough. (Sorry my quoting was messed up there, I didn't want to double-post, had already posted my first comment, and couldn't figure anything else out.)
  2. It's possible to do so without K1R as well. I did it once, but am not sure how exactly I did it. It was when I was going neutral though.
  3. I just keep thinking of new things... I didn't properly understand how I was supposed to deal with the firaxan on Manaan without poisoning it. After a while of trying in vain to do so, I ended up just poisoning it and moving on. Upon finding out that I would get dark side points from poisoning it, I immediately went back and then went to look for a walkthrough .
  4. Haven't been playing for a while. Sorry. When I do start playing again, I'll soon be at a point where I can provide you with a before-Hrakert save, but I'm not sure when that will be. I'll keep an eye out so that I know if that save is still needed by the time I get there.
  5. For those of you who don't know about this (and I have no idea whether that's a handful of people or almost everybody) it's basically a contest in which people vote for which game they think is best. It's a tournament, with two games going against each other at a time and the winner advancing. I bring this up because KOTOR is due to compete (against Xenogears) tomorrow. Let's all go and support (one of) our favorite game(s)!
  6. My "classic" main character (as in, the first one I used and the one I keep going back to) in both games doesn't have any real specific build. I keep all the attributes at decent levels, go for Comp. Use/Demo/Repair/little bit of Persuade/some Treat Injury as my skills, make sure that I'm a dedicated dual-wielder, and go Consular -> Master in K2 and Scout -> whatever Dorak advises me (I've done all three) in K1, though my preferred Jedi class for the latter is Consular. I've done a number of other specific builds, focused on maximizing different aspects of the game, and used them in both games successfully (roleplaying is essential for these builds for me as well). The three I really remember are: 1) Super dark side Soldier -> Guardian/Guardian -> Marauder. Start with STR 18, CON 17, CHA 9, everything else 8. At some point put an extra point into CHA just because, put one point into CON, and then STR and things that enhance it all the way. Powers aren't very important except for Master Speed. Basically, this character is a damage machine. He deals obscene amounts of damage using a double-bladed saber, Power Attack, and Speed/Fury (his total strength was at least in the upper 30s by the end of K2) and with high CON and Toughness, is fairly durable as well. His personality is also quite simple: attack everything and be as cruel as possible. This character is for having fun by just smashing everything that gets in his way. He also defeated Malak in about 3 combat rounds. 2) Neutral Scout -> Consular/Consular only. I start with 16 WIS and CHA, 12 DEX, and 10 everything else. Basically, this character is a master Force attacker: neutral allows me to pick and choose which powers I want from which side, while the high (and constantly increasing) WIS and CHA, combined with Force Focus, makes it very hard to resist my attacks. It was not until playing this character that I really learned how powerful Force Kill can be. I make this character a single-wielder and go for a different feel than the rest of my games by denying myself the Speed powers, using only Adrenal Alacrity to speed up and not getting extra attacks except from Flurry, making most of my strength in Force Powers. Skills are Treat Injury and Awareness if I have extra points (Force Persuade is used without exception). Force powers are limited as much as possible to only aggressive powers, not using any to buff myself. Playing this character is quite interesting, as I'm denied my Force crutches of Speed and Heal/Drain Life, but am also a weak straight-up fighter. Roleplaying is also a very unique experience with this character, as the mentality I've given it is to always go for my own gain, but don't be evil if there's no good reason, and hate those who betray or target me (mainly Sith and, for the second game, Exchange) unabatedly. My first build might have defeated Malak quickly, but with this one, Darth Sion is an absolute joke -- I can just use Force Kill on him, over and over, until the fight finishes. 3) Somewhat (but not exclusively) Dark Side Scoundrel -> Sentinel/Scoundrel -> Assassin (I in fact used the KSE to make myself a Scoundrel at the beginning of K2). Similar attribute set to the previous character, except with the focus on DEX and INT, and the extra points in CON. Dual wielder, but uses the Scoundrel's abilities to full advantage, maxing out in all class skills and leaving the other three to basically rot. This gave me a really different experience from normal, but still a fun one, as I spent lots of time sneaking around, figuring out the underhanded way to do things and, again, using the Scoundrel abilities to the fullest. This includes walking around in Stealth mode A LOT, picking off isolated targets with Sneak Attack, getting around guards and Security-ing doors open, and setting mines all around enemies to trap them, including putting them in the path of patrolling enemies. Basically, I continued to kill as many enemies as possible, but with minimal combat, which I feel is the Scoundrel's intended playstyle. Biggest problem with this build in K1 was that there are not nearly enough mines in that game. This was also a unique experience in that I often tried to maximize defense, and got to feel what it was like to play with high levels of that. After I became a Jedi, this character's combat inferiority was offset and then some by the massive power of Sneak Attack -- I would usually use Insanity on enemies and then use the bunch of extra damage I got to take them out really quickly. This build caused me to, for the first time, realize the usefulness of Sneak Attack and stop underestimating the Scoundrel as a capable class. That's what I've got.
  7. I almost always do light side; I am not a person who enjoys being evil. I only really do dark side for the alternate experience, and most of my non-light characters have had interesting personalities that generally keep them from being completely dark... Actually, playing as a neutral character can be quite an interesting experience. Dark Side may have some better abilities, but Light Side at least has Heal to help it out.
  8. Heh. For me it was the opposite -- I didn't know that there was an option besides siding with the Elders.
  9. That can be an interesting way to play. That's what I usually do for the few Dark Side playthroughs I have. I certainly did have fun the first time when I managed to take down Darth Malak in about three rounds.
  10. Yeah, I think that would be number one. Except for possibly losing to Deadeye Duncan without trying.
  11. I used to never think anything of it, but then I did a full playthrough as a Scoundrel, emphasizing sneakiness and underhandedness -- and let me tell you, if you have Stasis Field or Insanity, then using that on your enemies and subsequently getting 4-24 extra points of damage per attack on them is a BIG help in combat. For just sneaking up to somebody in Stealth and then picking them off, I would agree that it's not too helpful past Taris, but the bonus vs. stunned enemies makes a huge difference. In fact, I enjoyed it so much (along with the alternative gameplay style associated with the class) that I used the KSE to make my character for TSL a Scoundrel instead of a Jedi.
  12. Agreed. That would eliminate the biggest advantage to playing as Scoundrel, the sneak attack. Another problem I had in my first playthrough was that I could not figure out how to deal with the Rancor. I ended up just running past it and somehow making it to the Vulkar base entrance.
  13. Now THAT is impressive. I could never lose to him without trying really hard to. I also never found Bendak my next playthrough, though I also never beat Marl, so it wouldn't have made a difference. One thing I did RIGHT my first playthrough was that I just so happened to go through the four Star Map planets in the generally recommended order.
  14. Heh. I still don't save my levels, though at this point, I never have trouble with Malak anyway. When I started... I think my two biggest problems were 1. that I thought blasters were better than vibroblades and 2. that I had the game do all of the level ups for me. It took me less than a full playthrough to clear that up.
  15. Not exactly sure what you mean by customization... with Civ III at least, a LOT of stuff can be changed around with the mission editor. Do you regularly play TF2? If so, maybe you should friend me on Steam.
  16. I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of Jar Jar really being some evil genius, but I certainly don't want to see him come back.
  17. Something else that has occurred to me... except for that one tiny scene with R2, he and C-3P0 haven't shown up at all in the promotional material, if I remember correctly. Makes you wonder where they come in, doesn't it?
  18. I highly doubt that Jar Jar will be returning in any capacity. And as far as I'm concerned that's a good thing.
  19. I dunno. This sounds like we're starting to get past the realm of plausibility. If you're right about this though, make sure to use this post to ridicule me for my incompetence. Other than being black, he doesn't look anything like Mace to me, so I think we can rule out the idea of him being a clone. Actually, I think that if Mace was going to have any part in this at all, then his actor would be returning...
  20. I'm thinking that the hardest part of this might be effectively integrating the character so that he/she doesn't glaringly stand out. Sounds like a good idea though. Good luck.
  21. At any rate, what George Lucas said probably won't really influence what Disney does for the new movies.
  22. The idea that he fell to the dark side to defeat the Emperor is preposterous. If he had done that, he simply would have used the ol' lightsaber, rather than helplessly lie on the floor covered in Force Lightning while Vader did all the work. That said, he theoretically could have fallen the the Dark Side later... that would explain the whole thing with Vader's helmet, but making one of the old characters the big bad guy doesn't really make much sense to me. I could be wrong, though. Making Luke fall at all seems like could lead to considerable audience backlash, but Disney might have decided to take that risk. We'll find out for sure before too long, at any rate.
  23. I'm going to have to pass on this one. I sometimes even listen to KOTOR music in other situations... so I wouldn't want to replace it in-game. Might be interesting to see what others say though.
  24. I have plenty that I use, but hardly any that I really feel I couldn't do without. The only one I'd really say that about (other than restorations, of course) is the High Level Force Powers mod for K2.
