About This File

The K1 Community Patch (K1CP) is a compilation of previous bugfix mods and a multitude of new original fixes put together with the intention of resolving the many and various issues that KOTOR has. This includes some well-known game breaking bugs/softlocks, broken quests, inaccessible content, as well as lesser issues such as problems in conversations, visual inconsistencies, player annoyances, etc. The intention is for the changes to be as seamless as possible, fixing and improving things whilst still retaining the original developer intent.

A huge thanks to all of the mod authors who created these mods, and allowed them to be included in this patch! Unfortunately, the individual list of changes has grown far too long to be included in this post. However, you can view a detailed breakdown of each author's individual contributions in the included readme file and a summary of the changes the current version has made since the previous release in the changelog file.

Installation:
Run INSTALL.exe and navigate to your K1 install folder. Generally speaking, this mod should be installed before anything else, except mods that do hard edits/overwrites of 2DA, TLK or MOD (module) files.

Warning: Never run the installer from inside the archive! Always extract the archive onto your hard drive first.

N.B.: With the advent of version 1.10.0, K1CP has migrated away from the use of TSLPatcher and switched to HoloPatcher. This allows for additional patching functionality and resolves some bugs encountered with TSLPatcher. HoloPatcher is also multi-platform. The bundled installer is the Windows version, but Mac and Linux users can download the appropriate installer for their system here.

It is highly recommended that you do not install the game on your system's C drive, especially in Program Files. Windows can have permissions issues when trying to install the mod to a C drive destination. If you are using the Steam version of the game and have installed Steam in its default Program Files location, we advise creating a new Steam Library on a different drive and moving the game there via the game's Properties pop-up in Steam.

Translation:
The mod now has translations in French and Russian, available as separate patches. To use, first download the base K1CP v1.10.0 archive and extract it to your harddrive. Download your translation patch of choice and extract its contents into K1CP's tslpatchdata folder. Proceed to install the mod as normal.

Compatibility/Known Issues:
K1CP uses module injection in an attempt to remain as compatible as possible with other mods. This may result in issues with mods that simply put files in the Override folder. It is recommended that you consult the individual authors of any large scale mods, particularly those that edit DLGs and scripts, as to whether their work is compatible with K1CP. Some mods will likely require updates, some may need to be installed in a specific order, whilst others may be fundamentally incompatible.

K1CP currently only supports the English language version of the game, and makes a number of edits to the TLK file in English. If anyone is able to provide translations of these changes to other languages, please let us know.

The KOTOR 1 Restoration (K1R) mod is incompatible with K1CP, however there is ongoing work to re-create the K1R mod for K1CP: https://deadlystream.com/files/file/2345-restored-content-for-k1cp-demo/

These are the currently known bugs/issues with KOTOR or the mod that the K1CP is looking to resolve:

https://github.com/KOTORCommunityPatches/K1_Community_Patch/issues

If you find any others, especially with changes/additions K1CP makes, please report them on the Github issue page or here on Deadly Stream so they can be addressed. Be sure to include as much information as possible, including a list of all the other mods you have installed, the order you installed them in, steps to reproduce the problem, along with screenshots and save files, if appropriate. You may also be directed to provide the install log file, a list of the contents of your Override folder, and specific MOD files from your modules folder.

Uninstallation:
Given the complexity of this mod, a clean install of KOTOR is the recommended approach for uninstalling K1CP. However, HoloPatcher does provide uninstall Shell (Bash) and PowerShell scripts which will work as long as K1CP was the most recent mod installed.

Permissions:
Due to this mod being a compilation from many different authors, please do not distribute/rehost it.

it seems that it only modfies the male version of the file.

Yes, it is only configured to append new lines to dialog.tlk.

To properly cater to non-English languages would require separate language-specific versions (since patching existing TLK lines is currently not practical). We are open to volunteers if anyone wants to do the work required to create such a thing. It would mean translating English strings to the target language, splicing the target language versions of various voice over audio files, and translating the readme (at the very least the info.rtf for TSLPatcher).

I use a language which has 2 dialogue.tlk files (Polish), and it seems that it only modfies the male version of the file.

I am a little confused... Is this Community Patch gonna work with polish version of the game if I play male character?

Playing a male character should work fine, since that (as I understand it) uses the default dialog.tlk, with the proviso that all the TLK strings added by K1CP are in English, so at the very least those would obviously stand out. There are also edited VO lines that will be in English as well.

This may have been reported before, but just in case it hasn't: in the Manaan underwater base, the security droid's (the one next to the room with a "whimpering locker") red energy shield cannot be disabled via the computer terminal at the beginning of the level. The cutscene where the shield shuts down plays, but once you get to the droid, its energy shield is back on.

um what's the usual time for instalation of the patch. I've had it running for 20 or so minutes and the game hasn't ask for like my directory for the files or anything it's just saying installation has started.

Dual monitors? You probably have the bug where the directory selection window is off-screen. Do this:

It needs to be installed first, since it does hard overwrites of modules. That makes it incompatible with pretty much everything unless it is the very first mod installed.

So I need to install K1CP first and then Kain's NPC Overhaul? I was told the two mods were incompatible.

No, the exact opposite. As I said, NPC Overhaul does hard overwrites and is basically incompatible with any pre-installed mod/s. You must install that first over a fresh game install. Then install K1CP and then any other mods.

It's not a restoration mod, so no.

Does it restore Sharina Fizark on Dantooine? I don't think it does. So I downloaded a mod that restores her.

For some reason I get error when installing the community patch.

It looks like the community patch doesn't play well with .mod files if they are already present in the module folder, trying get this working well enough with Black Vulkar Restoration mod which only has a mod file. I thought it would be better to put that in first then run the community patch for it to work.

[Install] Adding file cp_tar10_vlkpl_d.ncs to the modules\tar_m10aa.mod archive...

It works perfectly fine with pre-existing MODs, assuming they are valid. All of K1CP's module-specific content is dynamically injected during the install. There are no pre-patched modules. If you have an error then either the 3rd party module is bad or your system is bad.

Yet again turns out it was none of those things, it would seem that it was probably a windows update that created some memory issues. Though I have to note, that the only thing that was impacted were installers related to TSLPatcher, every other program and installer worked fine, including games.

Very "helpful" must be essentially saying "your bad computer" lmao without any reasoning or suggestions.

You literally confirmed it was a problem on your end, which is what I said.

Edit: I didn't exactly confirm other than make a probable conclusion , "computer bad" which means that the computer hardware is bad which is vague ah and turned out to be wrong, I'll keep troubleshooting the patcher TSL installer though it seems to only affect the TSLPatcher for community that i have on the system. I'll redownload it and try from a different directory.

Edit 2: Well I managed to move on from the initial error which was some files were not extracted using the default zip extractor (bad extraction i guess you could say).  The new error is

[Error] Cannot open file "C:\Users\TheEm\Downloads\K1_Community_Patch_v1.9.2\tslpatchdata\m10aa.git". The system cannot find the file specified (EXT-0)

I tried redownloading, re-extracting, extracting with different archiver apps, download the m10aa.mod file from the github repo, I can't seem to fix this issue.

edit 3: tried on my laptop (different computer) and the new error I just mentioned is still occurring, newly downloaded archive from here and extracted with 7zip. So this it looks to me like this new issue isn't a "bad computer" problem.

Before I installed this mod I changed the resolution within the game settings and the colour of the screen would dim. This wouldn't fix when changing the resolution back and was only fixed by exiting the game and running it again.

I installed the mod and the same thing happened. I can't wait to use the Community Patch for my first ever PC playthrough of KOTOR 1, and since I noticed this bug I thought I'd point it out so the community could fix it for a future update.

There's nothing for the Community Patch to fix. Don't change the resolution in-game. Leave it at its base setting and use the widescreen patch to edit the resolution.

So, I am literally unable to download this patch. I don't know why modifications are not made to the kotor folder, in fact a folder is downloaded to the installer folder after extracting it. I don't know if I should deactivate something before, or if when choosing the folder to install they are selected incorrectly, I hope you can answer me please

You have two conflicting statements. You say you are literally unable to download it, and then you talk about extracting something. So you literally are able to download it presumably?

Once downloaded, you need to extract it somewhere (preferably not the game folder) and run the installer.

I try to extract the latest version of this, but my anti-virus software considered the application a threat and deletes it as soon as I click on it.

Yeah it's because of HoloPatcher being packed as a self-contained Python application. Your options: update your AV's definitions, whitelist the file/folder, submit a false-positive report, swap to a different AV.

I'm sorry if I expressed myself wrong, English is not my native language and I am using a translator. I can download and extract the file, but when I run the installer and choose the game folder, it has no modifications, only a few folders are added to the folder where the installer was extracted, but the game still has the same problems as before try to install the patch. I don't know if it's something with my PC or if I'm doing something wrong, or if you just have to add some files or folders to the game, know what they are, I hope you can help me.
