Hey, I've actually managed to fix all of my weird KOTOR2 problems! For now, that is...
-
Ah, thanks. I was able to replace the saves folder there with a copy of the one from my game folder and then all was well. I'm not sure why it's not updating, though... TSL has just been a load of weirdness on this computer.

KOTOR 2 weirdness continues... now I can't edit it with KSE, which is a big bummer.
-
I was going to show you exactly what I meant by it was messed up... and then I opened it and it was fine for the first time ever. Go figure. Now I can edit it normally. I suppose that, much as I would like to have myself in it, I should hold off on giving suggestions for that until/unless I gain more notoriety in this community... (I'd love to have someone tell me I'm wrong.) One more thing. I noticed one minor "flaw" with the mod: when I first warped to the area, Sith Holocron referred to me as "he" and "him," but my character was female. I completely understand if you don't want to bother fixing that, though. I love his reference to KOTOR1, by the way. On the whole, this is a very fun little area. If you're expanding it later, I think that it might be cool to include the outside of the ship, too, if that wouldn't be too much trouble.

I already redownloaded the same version and immediately started it and tried again... no luck.

Okay, KSE is refusing to let me edit my current saves for KOTOR2. I did a reinstall of TSL a few days ago, but no matter what I do (I even deleted the saves directory and made a new save), KSE will only show me the saves that existed before I did the reinstall. I'm using version 3.3.3 (I tried the latest version, but it won't show any of my saves for either game). Anybody have any ideas?
-
Okay, thanks.
-
How do I install this? (you might want to include a readme with any future releases)
-
Could you make this so that there's some way to get there without cheats (like an armband or something)? My swkotor2.ini file is messed up when I try to open it in Notepad, so I can't enable cheats.

Still haven't made it to even the airwalk on Peragus, and it might be a while until I get much farther, between being kind of busy and also playing through KOTOR1 right now. I've installed all of my mods again now and hope to do an extended session soon to determine if my big problem is still going on or if the reinstall solved it. There's one encouraging sign - the movies played at the beginning of the game, and I don't think that they did before. UPDATE Well, I played for a good chunk of time this afternoon (40 minutes minimum) and got all the way from working on the voiceprint code to the Harbinger. No problems encountered. I'm going to be cautiously optimistic that the reinstall managed to do the trick.

I guess most of that's just a to-each-his-own sort of thing, though one other thing about the not-starting-as-a-Jedi aspect is that I also get to play as one of the other classes, which I do sometimes miss in TSL. (Actually, last play through, I ended up using the KSE to turn my character into a Scoundrel to start the game - yay for sneak attacks!) Also, I like KOTOR1's music way more than most of TSL's. You can do other sections if you want; I don't have any real opinion.

Okay, maybe we are talking about differences in actual gameplay and such. There are the obvious upgrades in TSL such as more feats + powers, prestige classes, etc., yet KOTOR1 has always been my personal favorite (although I love both). I think I've pegged down a number of reasons: 1. I played KOTOR1 first. I think that has a bit of an effect. 2. KOTOR1 has that lovely thing know as the Rapid Transit System. 3. TSL might have the influence system, but I kind of liked how each party member (except Zaalbar, HK, and T3) in KOTOR1 had their own sidequest you could activate in the spaceports. Also, it can be nice to go into the Ebon Hawk without having to watch a bunch of cutscenes of my party. 4. Teasing Bastila is fun. 5. KOTOR1 has the inventory filter "New Items." 6. The aforementioned story differences can make KOTOR1 a bit more fun. Plus there's the fact that at the end you can actually see how your path has an effect on the galaxy. 7. I find the first two planets in KOTOR1 considerably less tedious to go through than the first two of TSL. Similarly, I think storming the Star Forge is way more fun and epic than slogging through Malachor V. 8. KOTOR1 has a couple of extra levels of difficulty that I appreciate; the first is the fact that you have to play through the first part of the game as a non-Jedi, the second is that the level cap of 20 really requires you to plan out what feats and powers you want to have, as opposed to TSL where I always end up with Force powers that I don't really want. I think that's it for me.

I guess you're not talking about differences in actual gameplay and such. One thing I would add to this is that TSL has a MUCH more convoluted and confusing story to it. I'm still not sure, after at least six playthroughs, that I understand all of Kreia's motives for everything she does in the end. That can make KOTOR1 more appealing when I don't feel like using an excess of brainpower.

Oh, okay. Thanks for that info. I'm having to do a fresh install anyway, so I can make sure that that's fine. UPDATE After doing a fresh install, I decided to try playing some without any mods installed and see how that worked. I played for almost an hour, which I hadn't been able to do before, using the same settings as before, and got as far as I have in my other playthrough (which took about 3 or 4 crashes to get to at first). No crashes thus far. Next I'm going to try installing all the mods again, hope the reinstall hasn't rendered my other save unusable, and see how that works out.

Thanks for those pointers. I also just realized that I somehow posted this in the wrong forum. Sorry about that.

I recently got a new computer - Windows 8.1, 64-bit, Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce graphics card. Installed KOTOR2 and some mods on it... but if I play the game for any significant period of time, the entire computer will crash and I have to force shut it down and restart. I've tried turning the graphics options down some and running it in Windows XP compatability mode, but still no luck. I am still able to play the game, but the crashes are rather irritating and can result in lost progress. I have the KOTOR Collection version of the game (1 CD) and am using the following mods: -TSLRCM 1.8.4 -M4-78 EP 1.2 -SLM and Apostle Sabers Add-on (I don't see this listed in the downloads section any more - has it been removed?) -Onderon Traveler Clothing (Got it from Gamefront, couldn't find it there, but it's at this link - http://www.gamewatcher.com/mods/star-wars-knights-of-the-old-republic-ii-the-sith-lords-mod/onderon-traveler-clothing-1-1) -Newbiemodder's Korriban Expansion -High Level Force Powers v2 and 2.1 Update (I believe I got this from the now defunct KOTORFiles) -M4-78 Movies Remade (http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/572-m4-78-movies-remade/) -Handmaiden 4 Females - Disciple 4 Males for TSLRCM 1.8.3 (Just realized that I have a different version of this than of the RCM, but that wouldn't cause a computer crash) -Dustil Restoration (http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/343-dustil-restoration/) -Choose Mira or Hanharr (http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/108-choose-mira-or-hanharr/) -Combat Simulation Arena (not sure where I got this from, sorry) So far, I have not quite yet made it to the point on Peragus where the Harbinger shows up (just need to finish obtaining the voiceprint for the airlock). If anybody has any ideas on how to fix this problem, I'd be very appreciative!

Okay, good to know about the grass problem - it occured to me that that might be the case since this was my first playthrough on a new computer. I kind of figured out about the lady, but it was still funny. I'm changing least favorite part to Impossible difficulty when it is truly impossible. There's a certain dissatisfying feeling that I get when my entire party is trapped by Horror at the start of a battle and doesn't even get a chance.
-
After playing through Dantooine: Favorite part: Impossible difficulty, except when it's truly impossible. Least favorite part: I had to turn Grass effects off and the water was messed up on Dantooine. I think it's this mod's fault. Also, you got rid of the lady in the Vulkar Base sublevel that spoke with a really deep voice and played Pazaak.

I'm not sure that InSidious's Lightsaber and Force Forms mod is entirely compatible. I did one playthrough with it and without K1R, and it was fine, but with K1R, the holocron in the Jedi Academy is appearing as a bed, not a holocron. Other new mods I have installed are: Extreme Conditions Combat Robes by Darth Insidious Duel Room Final by aneeryrlue Proper Manaan Quest Endings by Kexikus Tomb of Exar Kun by deathdisco

I actually didn't get how to beat it either. I ended up just running past it and the Vulkar guards and going up the elevator without fighting. Knowing now what I know about "You must gather your party before venturing forth," I'm surprised I managed to pull that off... Nowadays, I still sometimes just set a bunch of mines and kill it that way, just for kicks.
