This mod presents you an overhauled version of Selven; a human high-profile assassin who became infamous for her extermination of the Ulgo family on Taris and tons of other assassination attempts.

 # Background #

"Now you'll see why I'm the most dangerous assassin on Taris".

Spoiler-alert!:

Spoiler

A line that will make most KotORians be like "Really? Hmm... let's see what you've got then, Selven!"- and less than 20 seconds later, feels like nothing is really happening then #truestory.

Bugged with the fact that Selven could possibly be beaten in less than 20 seconds with under-leveled PC and companions, along with her looks that just too ordinary point to the fact that she was a high-profile assassin who became infamous for extermination of the Ulgo family on Taris and tons of other assassination attempts; the project was started then.

# About this Mod #

  • Changes to both the head and body texture so now Selven is more Selven. [Updated in 1.3]
  • Selven's much harder to fight. She was now designed to be encountered with high level PCs; more likely with Bastila in the party. [Updated in 1.3]
  • Some tweaks to the voice to fit her new personality.
  • Selven got a new pair of blaster and blade. They were described as SS-SL7 Rapid Blaster and DM-SL7 Vibroblade. [Updated in 1.3]
  • Some new stuffs in her inventory also; which some are proven to be valuable loots- if, she has been defeated. [Updated in 1.3 - 'Selven's "Vanilla" Difficulty and Inventory' patch included]

# Final Remarks #

Critiques, comments, suggestions, questions and any feedbacks for the next update are very much appreciated- PM me at deadlystream.com [ebmar] or just write a public message on my feed. And thank you! for downloading, and playing this mod.

Hope you enjoy the mod as much as I do!

Installation: Run the installer [TSLPatcher.exe]. [Updated in 1.3]

Uninstallation: Remove tar03_selven031.utc from the 'Override' folder. As to uninstall only the new voices, you can overwrite them again by choosing the option "Optional: Selven's Vanilla Voices" from the installer directory. [Updated in 1.3]

Compatibility: Will not compatible with T7nowhere's "Weapons of the Old Republic" and any other mods that changes the value nor conflicted with tar03_selven031.utc. If you want to ensure this mod to work properly, install this mod after T7's "WotOR" and/or all other mods has. This mod is 100% compatible with Sithspecter's "High Quality Blasters" and DeadMan's "[K1] Vibrosword Replacement Pack", as the textures and models inside this mod are using different variations from the said mods. [Updated in 1.3]

RedistributionDo not redistribute this mod or re-release it on any website at all. If you're planning to re-use the assets from this mod- please, ask me for permission first. Most likely it will be granted. More importantly, give credits to Sithspecter and DeadMan, as SS provides us the blaster's resource and DM actually asking on his mod's page to only give him credits for using the blade's assets. And if you're planning to re-use the blade assets to a mod that you're going to release on Steam Workshop, it seems a permission would not be granted; referring to DM's wishes on the mod's page. While for others, a bit of credits to my name is always a welcome, welcome.  [Updated in 1.3]

Credits: [Updated in 1.3]

  • DarthParametric for literally everything. This mod would not be possible without DP's hands-on approach. And with later development of this mod, I've been using DP's "addheader.bat" to re-compressed the .WAV files which tools have been proven very useful.
  • Sithspecter for "High Quality Blasters: Modder's Resource".
  • DeadMan for "[K1] Vibrosword Replacement Pack".
  • A Future Pilot for the assistance with new entries of the blaster and the blade. If you find the new descriptions are somewhat interesting, they are AFP's work there.
  • N-DReW25 and JustABitAgroed for their input to the updated .utc's inventory and some advices regarding to the attribution of both the blaster and the blade.
  • Salk for the input to include the optional 'Selven's "Vanilla" Difficulty and Inventory' patch.
  • Sith Holocron, UnusualCharacters and CarthOnasty for advices and discussions which having great influence on the creative process of this mod.
  • BioWare & LucasArts for the 'Game of the 21st Century'.
  • All streamers on DeadlyStream which indirectly involved on this project that I couldn't possibly mentioned one by one.
  • All modders either active or inactive.
  • bead-v and ndix UR for the MDLedit.
  • Fred Tetra for the KotOR Tool.
  • stoffe and Fair Strides for the TSLPatcher setup.
  • DeadlyStream for a place to hangout and to discuss.

It really gave Selven something to match her backstory. Now she really fits into the mass assassin she was said to be. Plus Taris needed another challenge besides Bendak which she brings, beautifully btw, in spades! The extra unique vibroblade and blaster certainly didn't hurt the quality either ;)

5 Stars! Took me a few deaths, a full party, and a few levels with shields, a few grenades, and a mine or two, but a very satisfying and challenging mini-boss battle.

Response from the author:

Thanks for the review, jc2! Much appreciated.

Glad that you like the mod; though it actually is "unstable" because as the more I play and mod the game, I learn that many aspects of this mod is kind of "off", very possible as this is one of my earlier mods.

Again, thanks that you enjoyed it!

Hey ebmar, wanted to say you did a great job on this. Selven has a great new look and I definitely needed three people to take her down on Imp difficulty. It was almost as hard as the Gadon fight, as it should be. Great addition. I did have a couple questions and critiques, most having to do with her pistol. Firstly, how does Damage Bonus: Physical, Random work? Random as in completely random? What's the ceiling of the damage bonus that it could get (because I can see it getting far too powerful far too quickly)? Next is how does the Piercing Damage bonus affect the gun? I thought that Piercing/Slashing/Bludgeoning were leftover code and didn't affect the gameplay at all, or at least not in any relevant way. Last thing regarding the pistol: there's no (visible) bonus for upgrading the Hair Trigger on the weapon, and you also can't see that the gun has been changed at all (in the gun's description) when you've upgraded it aside from On Hit: Slow. My only other critique is that for the point at which you get it in the game, the vibrosword is a bit too powerful. It's the best melee weapon you'll have until you start to get some really good lightsaber crystals (at least post-Dantooine). I'd tone it down just a bit (simply removing the Damage Bonus: Physical would do wonders for its balance). Overall, great job and thank you for making it. I hope you keep working to improve the fantastic foundation.

Edit: Just realized it's likely that I was playing a previous version. I'll have to check out the newest update.

Double edit: One other thing I forgot to mention is that 2 out of the 3 times (third was with the new update) that I've fought her, as soon as I kill her, it's introduced a graphical glitch where the screen goes black but the game is still running fine. It's quickly fixed by saving and loading, but it's something to fix if possible.

Update (1.2): see comment #8.

Update (1.3): This mod is now more than up-to-snuff. It does well to keep the original balance and feel of the game while simultaneously adding much more weight to an otherwise underwhelming character that could have, should have, and now is, something really dang awesome. Very well done. 6/5. Stick it in your override and keep 'er there, this one's a mainstay. Congrats and thanks, ebmar. 😁

Many thanks, buddy! Very much appreciated.

I'm glad to hear that you dig her new look, but I am hoping you would say you needed three people to take her down on "easy" difficulty though; as that proven the mod to be a success. 🤣

Really appreciate your effort to get into the details! So, the very first time I'm entering those data for the blaster and the blade [the sword is now a blade; as updated in 1.1 version] I lacked knowledge on doing that. For example: In the 1.0 version, with the blade I put "Slow On Hit Properties" and "Cold Damage Bonus" using those feature on the blade as the guidance; looking at the blue energy field, I'm assuming it to produce a cold and slow effects when it hit the targets. As for the blaster, I put Random Damage Bonus just to put impression that the blaster has its unique feature that could not be found in other blaster. Lesson very much learned after I've got constructive inputs from @A Future Pilot and @N-DReW25 for the attribution of those items. So, most points from your feedback there are valid.

In the 1.1 version, the attribution both the blaster and the blade has been updated. One noticeable aspect is removing the upgradeable feature for both items; credits to AFP for doing the work on that. I'm suggesting you to re-download the mod to get a go with the updated feature, as I believe the now stats are in a more balanced manner. I am sure it would be a zero-to-none game breaking than the former does.

Overall, great job and thank you for making it.

Again, many thanks for the appreciation! especially for downloading and using the mod- and plus points too for reviewing it. Appreciate your time there.

The pleasure on me for making this mod.

Yes, I believe it's a long-known bugs, as stated in Wookieepedia here:

Quote

Strangely, it appears that killing her prematurely sometimes results in a black game screen. In this event, the game continues to work other than the screen becoming black, with all other processes such as sounds, the cursor, even menus, working exactly as they should. Saving and reloading rectifies this glitch.

Unfortunately, I can't do much about that; as fixing a bug like one is out of my knowledge. 😂
