Why "The Old Republic" wasn't very good, in my opinion.
peedeeboy replied to TheDarkChocolateJedi's topic in The Old Republic
I'm not gonna lie - I've had some fun playing TOR! But I stopped when 3.0 hit. I think one of the main issues with TOR is that there is a constant tug-of-war between balancing the game between PvP and PvE. I think BW should have followed Sid Meir's "Covert Action rule", that is "make one great game rather than two good ones". I used to run Sage / Operative healers (PvE), and 3.0 just ripped the fun right out of those classes. Sages were great pre-3.0.. you could put out some serious healing, and really make a difference to a group - IF you could manage your force. You were also static and squishy - so had to know the fights and make sure you weren't standing in a bad place. This made the class tricky but very, very rewarding. Post-3.0. Big heals nerfed and having to manage Force a thing of the past. Plus you could run and cast so it just came down to button mashing. Apparently, force management is going to be back on the cards (with big heals again!) for Sages in the next ex-pac, so I might re-sub for 30 days and take a look I thought that the stories were ok up until the end of the original game. I haven't cared much for the stories in the ex-pacs (RotHC, SoR, Darth Barbie aka Strongholds etc.). In TSL, the most interesting character is Revan and (s)he isn't even in that game! That is the power of good writing! With TOR, BW just made Revan one of those Sunday Morning Cartoon Villains that keeps coming back, and coming back, and coming back -
My personal opinions on a couple of these... I think so. Chris Avallone replied "good catch" when somebody asked him if Kreia was Arran Kae (and therefore Brianna's mother) When Visas looks at Kreia with Force Sight in the temple, she is proper DS. So I would say she kills them. In my opinion, Kreia's whole motivation throughout TSL is to train the Exile to be able to go and find/assist Revan. This also gives her the opportunity to get revenge on the Sith who exiled her, and prove to the Jedi that they were arrogant, ignorant jerks - blaming her for Revan going DS. And good job too, or it would be a very short game! Unfortunately for Kreia, the Jedi are still arrogant, ignorant jerks. So she has to kill them to protect the Exile. I believe Kreia always intended the Exile to fight her as 'the final test'. She says very early on in the game (on the Ebon Hawk) that the final Sith Lord will reveal herself later. She always intended to go Darth Traya and have the Exile face her. She's a bit like the Oracle in the Matrix - she tells you what you need to hear. It might not actually be the truth.... There is a recurring theme in TSL of 'is it ok to do bad things if your overall intentions are noble?'. Was Revan right to go DS in order to win the war and save countless lives? Was the Exile right to ignore the Jedi and go to war? Was Kreia right to go DS in order to force the Exile to face her and complete the Exile's training? Sorchy's Let's Play is both incredibly informative (and hilarious!) about some of the plot nuances in TSL: http://lparchive.org/Knights-of-the-Old-Republic-II/ There is the mystery of the unused game assets of Atris as Darth Traya. My personal feeling is that it was the intention that if the Exlie had low INF with Kreia, that rather than break Artis, Kreia would goad Atris into killing her. Thus confirming Artis as Darth Traya ("there must always be a Darth Traya") and forcing the Exile to fight his/her former love..... seems like a very Kreia kind of thing to do

Star Wars Episode VII :The Force Awakens Teaser Trailer
peedeeboy replied to VarsityPuppet's topic in Star Wars
It was hard to notice in the quick-cut of the trailer, but on the 'trading cards' you can clearly see that the stormy in the middle is noticeably shorter than the others.... I suspect our short stomry and surprised stormy are one and the same. And you are absolutely correct. http://insidemovies.ew.com/2014/12/11/star-wars-the-force-awakens-character-names/ -
My Projects In the Pipeline (mostly texture related)
peedeeboy replied to Malkior's topic in Work In Progress
Many Windows systems nowadays come with a 'recovery partition' (a hidden partition on the HDD containing the Windows installation files) rather than a disc. You have to perform some task in the BIOS on bootup to point it to the recovery partition, and then Windows will try to repair / reinstall itself. I would agree with SiC, and try to backup your files from a Linux bootup first, before attempting to repair the Windows installation. Booting up into Linux is a really good idea - most major distros allow you to download an .iso to create a 'Live CD' that you can boot from... Ubuntu is particularly easy to get running and has lots of drivers included. What I would do is boot up into Ubuntu from a Live CD, plug in an external HDD and copy as much of your work onto it as possible! And Mac OS X was a direct descendant of BSD, which in turn was a direct descendant of Unix. Linux is a direct descendant of GNU, which I believe was written from the ground up to emulate / better Unix - hence why Linux and related OSes are referred to as 'Unix Like' So there you go - good luck! -

I'll have a crack at it! I'm still very much learning as I go too! When you say you want to add a row, do you mean to the bottom of the table, or in the middle of other rows? Updating row headers if inserting into the middle of the table will be tricky as there is no guarantee that they are numbers . There's a couple of ways to write the file : The slightly less migrane inducing way: write an offset and piece of data for everything in the 2da (tk102's Excel Add-in does this) Attempt to replicate the compression / optimisation in the native 2da files (not sure if KotoR tool does this - need to check) Trying to insert new data into an existing 2da without completely rewriting the offsets, may cause nervous breakdown! I'll probably try 1 first, then have a crack at 2. No point in re-invented the wheel when tk102's Excel addin already does 1 perfectly! I also want to add in: the ability to edit row / column headers create a brand new 2da from scratch open regular (text version) 2da files Should keep me busy for a couple of weeks -

I thought having a crack at parsing 2da v2.b files would be good Java revision.: Results: Ubuntu Windows And I thought you might find the following useful in your future endeavours, incase you want to build tools for 2da files: Most of the necessary info is in tk102's post here: http://www.lucasforums.com/archive/index.php/t-178681.html But there a couple of bits slip up on: The integers in the file (rowcount, data offsets) are in little endian byte order The native 2da v2.b files appear to be formatted for memory optimisation. There is not one one string in the data area for each piece of data - rather several offsets might point to the same piece of data. E.g. In the modulesave.2da, several rows might have 6 in the SaveGroup column. Rather than 6 being stored in the file several times, it will be stored once, and all the offsets for those cells will point to the same instance of 6. Hope that helps! -
M4-78 retrospective review by zbyl, the Lead Himself
peedeeboy replied to zbyl2's topic in M4-78 Enhancement Project
Found him! I don't know what possessed me, but after speaking to M4-78 I ran around the whole planet talking to all the droids again to see if anything changed. And there was this one droid....... I thought this was one of the most professional touches in M4-78, that made it seem more like part of the original content than a mod.. I agree. I found the puzzles refreshing and thought that they fitted in perfectly with rest of TSL. Maybe it's growing up playing text adventures and Lucasarts point-and-clicks, but I quite enjoy being a bit stuck. My main issue with TOR is the complete lack of thought required (like when you are told you have to shut off three pieces of equipment in the right order or the alarm will sound, but the game doesn't actually let you set them off in the wrong order! Anyway, the power coupling puzzle is quite easy once you realise: This is my only real gripe with M4-78EP. It still makes no sense to me after reading your explaination. After all, Kaevee was allowed to live, so why not Kaah? I like the idea of having a few padawans on the loose, it foreshadows the rebuilding of the Order / Empire in time for TOR. Maybe they had some force sensitive children, who had some force sensitive children etc etc who ended up being Jedi in TOR? And Kaah has just reprogrammed M4-78, so what, he could re-programme M4-78 but couldn't cancel the droid orders to kill him whilst he was doing it? From what M4-78 says: If only someone would invent a mount mod! And I leave with a question. In one of the other threads it was suggested: -
From the horse's mouth, so to speak:

Rampant, unfounded speculation on my part: to tie in nicely with the release of Episode VII You heard it here first!!!

I've always thought that the Khoonda rooms (along with the phantom Telos entertainment module and Onderon palace rooms) would be ideal places to use for the Holocron Quest, if ever it were to be restored.

I'm a Red Eclipse sub, with Cybertech. I can currently craft upto mk8 Armour and Mods, so if you're still at a fairly low level and want any of those let me know

Abrams directing is fine... as long as they don't let his mate Damon "I'll start a load of intriguing plots, but have no idea how to actually tie them together so I'll prentend it's what I meant to do all along" Lindelof near the script

Finally gave in and started playing TOR last night... not very far yet, Level 6 Consular. So I have a while to go before I catch you guys... I'm finding combat quite boring, so think I might go to a healer path. Consular's name is Riedquat

Bugs and minor inconveniences with M4-78EP

I just remembered the IS-99 bug: Maybe.... I did stare at them for a while afterwards too though, and they didn't disappear. Maybe I didn't stare long enough! That. Is. Genius. If you can't poke fun at yourself and all that! -

KotOR II: TSL In 1280x768
peedeeboy replied to InSidious's topic in Knights of the Old Republic General
AWSOMESAUCE!!! Not only did it work, but it also made the graphics in TSL 'smoother' (camera rotations, smoke effects etc less 'stuttery')! I guess my GFX card must be better optimised for 1280 x 768 or something! -
Doing my first runthrough since M4-78EP was released, upgraded to 1.8.2 before installing. TSL Version = 2.10 w/Securom Vista/Win7 patch Following Mods installed (in this order): TSLRCM 1.8.2 M4-78 EP Extendend Enclave v2.0 Bugs so far: * Protocol droids no longer make a clanky-clanky sound when walking (B4-D4 and droids in Dantooine sub-level) * Kriea now makes her 'death noises' ('Fallen!', 'ARRRRGHH!') instead of her 'entering battle' noises ('I'll handle this one!') -- Though it is quite funny when Kriea screams ARRGH! like it's a battle cry! * I'm getting the Load Screen corruption bug, but never had it before (http://deadlystream.com/forum/topic/1529-kotor-ii-loadscreen-issue/page__p__16332__hl__loadscreen__fromsearch__1#entry16332), can get around it by starting a new game and using the 'in-game' loadscreen * In a possibly related issue, when starting a New Game, the 'progress' screen corupts very briefly (like the load screen), but then reverts back to normal (doesn't crash the game) * First time I trained Bao Dur as a jedi, during lightsaber sparing, it was Vrook's head on my body!! -- I reloaded my save to take a Screenshot (after switching my outfit to the Dancing Girl outfit, for the LOLZ!) but doesn't seem to happen now Please excuse my ignorance for not knowing which mod might have caused which issue, and just posting in the TSLRCM section!! Will let you know if I find anymore...

You are, of course, correct Had to load an old save to remind myself.. Whilst on their Exile taxi mission, the Harbinger responds to a distress call from a freighter (the Ebon Hawk) under attack by the Sith. They find a both the Ebon Hawk and a Sith warship disabled (I forgot they boarded the Sith ship as well as the Hawk!).. Sion obviously comes from the Sith warship, not the Ebon Hawk.. Which is, I guess, how the Sith Assassins sneak aboard the Harbinger.. I don't think it is ever explicitly mentioned how Kreia gets on board the Harbinger. Ideas?? I guess the most logical assumption is that she was aboard the Ebon Hawk, and that is why Sion was attacking it.. although, as whereisabaodur says, it seems a little out of character for Kriea to be rolling with T3. When you gain influence with T3, you unlock the holovid of Bastilla telling him to seek out her or other Jedi should something bad happen to Revan. So perhaps T3 found Kreia, and Kreia went looking for the Exile?? If Kreia has been hanging with T3, it would certainly explain how she seems to know so much about what Revan is upto nowadays.. I mean, unless Revan sent her postcard: Dear Kreia, Landed safely.. unfortunately, those idiot Rodian baggage handlers at Nar Shadaa broke my HK droid and I totally forgot to pack any suncream, so I've sent T3 home for it. The hotel Dromund Kaas is lovely (except for the pool being overrun by Cyc, but the staff tell me they're gonna Force Lightning them all tomorrow) and the local Psychotic Sith Emperor very accommodating. In fact, he doesn't want me to leave! Wish you were here, Revan And yep, it's not said that T3 had anything to do with imprisoning HK-50.. that was some artistic license on my part. He could of happened to be standing in the cupboard when the Ebon Hawk was fired upon by the (now Sith controlled) Harbinger during its escape, and the doors sealed automatically.. I just always felt that HK-50 takes such relish in zapping T3 on Peragus, that there might be history there....
-
That may be answered in the Revan book... but I haven't read it My take on it (and I may be way out here) based purely on what is said in TSL is: T3 travels with Revan in the Ebon Hawk to the unknown regions looking for the 'real' Sith threat. Something happens to Revan, HK-47 gets shot to pieces and stuffed in a cupboard, and T3 returns to the Republic in the Ebon Hawk to try and find help (locking the Navicomputer to stop anybody unworthy finding out where Revan has gone).. Meanwhile... Kriea has been betrayed by Sion and Nihilus and cast out... she seeks her revenge through one who has been cut from the force like she has, the Exile. Meanwhile... Atris has arranged for the Exile to return to the Republic aboard the Harbinger.. the scheming so-and-so has also leaked that information to the Sith in order to draw them out... Then… Somehow, and I don't think this is fully explained, Sion ends up unconscious aboard the Ebon Hawk. Maybe he tracked down and fought Kreia there? Maybe it was all part of a trap to hide in a damaged republic freighter to get picked up by the Harbinger? T3, Kreia, Sion and the Exile's paths all converge aboard the Haringer (fate?). Sion wakes up and goes postal, and in the chaos Kreia steals the Ebon Hawk along with an unconscious Exile. Overcome by her own battle wounds, (or knocked out by HK-50, who has also snuck aboard) she succumbs to unconsciousness herself (is it me or do these Jedi get knocked unconscious alot?). Whereupon T3 locks HK-50 in the cupboard with HK-47, repairs the ship and steers it to Peragus... Enter the player!

I have always assumed that when G0-T0 zaps Remote, that is when he reprograms him to freeze on M5. We don't see him do the reprogramming and rebuilding, as that would spoil the surpise... It's like we have to assume that T3 wipes HK's memory of the Navicomputer being locked after he zaps him in the back.. I believe the trigger for Kriea zapping T3 is T3 revealing information about Revan... so I'm assuming that Kriea is punishing T3 for betraying Revan by giving clues on his/her whereabouts, and discouraging him from doing so again.. I guess it's kind of a bit of a leitmotif that your companions keep wiping each other's memories Perhaps OE were having a little dig at Revan's amnesiac episode in K1 (using a cliched plot twist), like how Atton makes a dig at the Pazaak system in K1 or the Ebon Hawk's previous owner makes a dig at the turret minigame in K1. But I'm probably waaay out there!
