nVIDIA Drivers are killing me
Extreme110 replied to Extreme110's topic in Knights of the Old Republic General
Sorry for the bump, but I wanted to share the final solution. Install KotOR 1 & KotOR 2. Backup up Mss32.dll and your "Miles" folder in KotOR2 folder. Copy the Mss32.dll and "Miles" folder from KotOR 1 to KotOR2. tl;dr It helps to copy the Miles folder, as well as the .dll file. While it didn't play the menu music, everything else is working perfectly now. -
nVIDIA Drivers are killing me
Extreme110 replied to Extreme110's topic in Knights of the Old Republic General
Yeah, bookmarked and always done right before I try play any KotOR install. As it turns out, this computer remembered my settings, but I went ahead, set them to default and then changed them back again just to make sure the settings weren't corrupt. EDIT: Found something strange. After going to swconfig, I discovered it was wrongly reporting my audio device. I uninstalled all audio drivers aside from my nVIDIA and Realtek drivers, and also disabled audio. Game loaded up to a black screen, which is progress. Obviously, this means both my graphics and audio drivers are at fault. -
So, after re-reading Scorchy's LP and then seeing the incredible amount of progress on TSLRCM, M478-EP and all the new mods, I decided I wanted to play again today. Long story short, I'm stuck. I've tried everything I could and I think I now know the culprit. I have Retail and Steam copies of both games. The problem is that KotORII (both versions) will not start at all, even though it's listed in task manager wasting away 39MBs of RAM. No videos, no error messages, nothing. Interestingly, KotOR plays the logo movie, but then goes back to the desktop. There's still an icon in the taskbar, but clicking on it does nothing, and the preview shows a black screen. I've come to the conclusion, considering that I've finished this game several times on this laptop, that something is wrong with the newest nVIDIA drivers. Reinstalling and restarting hasn't helped, so what I think I need to do is rollback to a previous driver level that supported KotOR/KotORII. That's where I'm stuck. I'm not sure what drivers (that support my card) will also support KotOR. Does anybody have a possible suggestion on where I could find something? My Specs: OS: Windows 7 64-bit CPU: Intel i7 GPU: nVIDIA GeForce GT 630M (I've firmly disabled the Intel 4000) RAM: 8GB I also have a small suspicion that Audio Drivers might be at fault, but I know I haven't updated them since the last time I played the game, so for now I want to focus on the graphics card. Help is appreciated, thank you. EDIT: So, after breaking my nVIDIA drivers and then fixing them, I discovered KotOR1 works fine so long as I use Alt-Enter while the videos are playing. KotORII is still screwed. Damn :/

It depends on the game for me, but scanning is pretty much the only thing I've needed a guide on since I was going to waste money and probes for a while. Also, I rather regret this now, but back before I even finished ME1 on the Xbox, my friend showed me the ending to ME2. Quite pissy about that now that I'm playing it, but seeing as this isn't the first time (it's actually quite common, and the only game I'm concerned about spoilers in right now is Bioshock: Infinite), I'm not too concerned. At least I know what I need to do so I don't completely fail...

I was in the same position as milestails, with the difference being I had only played ME1 once on the Xbox, mostly skipping dialogue and just doing the main missions. A couple months back I bought ME1 and M2 DDE for about $5/$10 on Steam, and just a few days ago I decided it was a good time to finally make a serious attempt at the series. Feels a little weird still not having all the DLC (Pinnacle Station for ME1, regardless of if it's good or not, and the costume packs and other stuff not included with DDE for ME2), but I'll probably get them about the same time I finally decide to get ME3 and go back and fix the very few things I realised I did wrong in ME1 (apparently forgot to intitate a romance somehow, forgot to influence Garrus one more time to get him to say he attempted to rejoin C-Sec in ME2, and a few other minor things). Of course, if ME3 was avaliable on Steam right now I'd go sell everything in my possession and get it right now, but for now I have to wait until I can either be bothered to brave Origin (I have a long history with EA and Origin, and my boycott for their Origin service is still in effect) or they finally send it out to Steam (preferably like Crysis 2 Maximum Edition, where all the DLC is automatically included). I used the ME2 save editor in the wrong place, so all the ME1 errors I attempted to fix are still present, and I can't stop Conrad Verner going off at me for the gun I never pulled on him or a couple other things ME1 wrongly saves. That's pretty much the only application I have for the save editor, just to ensure all the choices I made are perfect. Playing ME2 for my first time right now, I'm about 15 hours in (IIRC, I'm on break and I can't be bothered to get my HDD to check Steam). It was very disorientating at first, with how much more focus was put on combat and how a lot of things have changed, but now I'm really getting the hang of it and enjoying it. My aim is still pretty terrible, but nonetheless I still eventually press my way through. Seeing Garrus (I had a lot of chuckling with his mission) and Liara again was fantastic. I've yet to see Wrex and Tali I want to see more of. Ashley was thourghly annoying (Kaiden would have probably been less agressive, but that's for another save). The new party members are pretty cool, although still need to collect Legion, Thane and Samara (probably a few others) and I won't have Kasumi without that DLC. The story and the jokes are great in both, although, as this is a paragon run, there's not as many as if I did a renegade run (cocky Shepard has a sense of humour). Also, I'm terrible with picking the right team members to get the funny dialogue. Thankfully, there's always YouTube...which I should thank, because it's the reason I'm doing this now. Spent months just watching those less than a minute videos to see some funny dialogue from the ME series. They have influenced me a little bit to try set up conversations to see those things for myself ("Don't piss in my ear and tell me it's raining"), but generally me and my Shepard for the most part do what we do. One thing, though. I appreciate the removal of the Mako (it wasn't the Mako control that was the problem, it was mainly the hidden objectives and the size of the maps that irritated me), but the scanning mission is probably more annoying for me. Thankfully the wiki has a great load of tips to help. God bless you, nerds everywhere!

Been watching all the IP.Board forums I frequent update, seeing which one brings out the coolest new skin (IP.Board likes to break everything, such as breaking BBCode while trying to make it closer to HTML). Is the old skin returning here, or are you bringing some tweaks?

http://kwiksurveys.com/s.asp?sid=wfogqc0hqfs6wgf94429 If everybody could complete this survey and even share it, that would be FANTASTIC. Currently need it for a games design assessment.

The video uploaders don't get permission, but that doesn't make it right for you. They're just lucky that Sony doesn't want to have to file hundreds of lawsuits against thousands of YouTube videos using their content. http://www.sonymusic.com/copyrightinformation This page and each tab has all the relevant information for using their music. You'll need to contact them with the email address to get the permission, but be warned, they will likely charge you money for the right.

Sion with the Emperors music. I don't know. I think the current soundtrack is fantastic, and while the movie was good as well, it was designed for those characters, while the game's score was designed for these characters. Furthermore, that piece of music is very out of place for Sion's first scene. It's a very creepy, scary and low scene. The music you wish to add is very big and loud and even a tad exciting. Now, I admit the bit from 1 minute in might suit more than the start, but I still disagree. Every main character has their own theme (or at least the main Sith and Jedi). Listen to Sion's theme in the soundtrack for K2, then compare to the Emperors arrival theme. Doesn't match. And of course, we'd be ruining the individuality presented by each individual character's theme music. I understand why you want to do this; all of the films had a fantastic score. But, I think the music in these games matches the games, and it's the one thing that should be left untouched (unless adding a new planet).

Considering what KotOR and KotORII would be like in a LEGO Star Wars game...
-
Not sure if this is spoilers or not, but you have been warned. Yes, have you completed Nar Shaddaa and spoken to Vogga yet?
-
I tried it on my old computer, but as I had no interest in the speeder races I didn't test to see if that bug was fixed and subsequently the patch was applied to the 1.0b .exe.

Nah, playing 800x600. I wish I could have been more helpful, but I gave up on the resolution changers when my old install was breaking down and I had to figure out what the problem was (was a variety of things including a faulty graphic card driver and a broken texture mod).
-
Haven't tested it, and I probably won't, as windowed works perfectly for me on my 1366x768 display.

This is a minor inconvenience, and I'm pretty sure it's with vanilla TSL as well, so I don't mind if it's not addressed. The holograms for people show their eyeballs. It's really freaky and weird. Would like it if they could be hidden or something. EDIT: New problem; On Telos, Entertainment Module 081. The Czerka mercenaries are already attacking the Sullastan on entry. The first dialogue fires, but after killing both mercenaries, the second dialogue with the Sullistan doesn't fire, meaning he just stands there in the panic animation. Talking to him centers the camera like when you try talking to any npc without a dialogue. Tried to go into the Cantina and return to see if that would change things, but the screen went black when attempting to leave the cantina. I'm very tired right now and I've been using cheats/KSE, and it's likely there's a conflicting mod somewhere, so I'll get back to you on this. For now, don't worry too much.

The one I downloaded only had Squizzy's repatcher. It modified both the .exe and mss32.dll or whatever it's called.

Have you tried to disable movies?

Has anyone ever just tried to...

Well, as much as I would like to port KotOR over to the #2 engine, I can sort of see why people are saying no. I'm not sure what you're talking about with The Witcher, but that was an inhouse-created fiction. That is, the company that made the game developed the story (and I assume Atari may have given them some creative freedom with the license, though Atari probably owns the franchise). Star Wars is owned by George Lucas, who gives permission to LucasArts to make a game, who give permission to a specific developer to make a game based on a certain part of the fiction. BioWare/Obsidian have no control over the fiction, and can't just make anything Star Wars they want (remember how Obsidian got denied to make that content patch?). tl;dr LucasArts said they could only make a game and that was it, so you'd need to ask LucasArts and it's debatable whether they'd give you permission or not. P.S.: Probably misunderstood what kind of port your talking about, but the logic is the same. EDIT: It's very likely someone is about to bring up the EULA. This is one of the things I've had many debates about in the past, LucasArts's EULAs. I came to the conclusion that while they may have to right to impose penalties if you breach parts, the likeliness of them actually taking action is low to non-existent, unless you're making money or doing something very bad with the product... -
I've never had a run through, TSLRCM or not, without this issue. Even when I didn't use the save editor to get lightsabers before completing the appropriate quest (although, by the time I reach Korribian I usually have completed the quest). I always thought it was the engine not being able to hold the amount of things active in the cave that it does, but I'm most likely wrong. Open your Steam folder, goto Steamapps, go to Common, and you should see a Kotor2 folder or something similar. Right click it, select "Properties", uncheck the "Read-Only" box.
-
The last time I saw Squizzys, I'm sure it wasn't a no-cd, it just changed a couple bytes in the .exe. I could be wrong, but I really doubt it does anything other than modify the resolution.
-
Have you tried creating a character on a non-modded game? What happens when you try create a character? Did you right click the KotOR folder and uncheck the "Read-Only" box?
-
When I first read this, I was against it for who knows what reason. Luckily, I went to sleep, and after a day of doing intensive study, I've started to like this idea a lot. I'll be watching your progress carefully.

Ho hum. In my past modding exploits, I've usually contributed something massive to the community, example being the multi-minifigure mod which allowed modders of LegoRR to use more than one raider type. Unfortunately for me, you guys have pretty much figured everything about the KotOR engine already. So, I've decided to make a small pack of goodies that should "enhance" the KotORII experience. Included will be several robe replacements, all of which are skins/costumes/whatever you want to call them from Assassin's Creed: Revelations and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (Revelations doesn't have Altair's Armour, the cool black edition of Ezio's costume with unbreakable armour). With any luck, I'll also be including a couple new weapons from Revelations. If all goes well, the robe replacements should all be animated so they flow nice and smoothly, and hopefully the hidden blades will make an appearance. Note that all the outfits are replacing robes, and that they are only the clothes themselves, so your characters face and hands can still be seen (unless the outfit includes gloves, which some do). Currently Planned To Be Included: Altair's Costume (White outfit seen in AC1) Ezio's Costume (White outfit seen in ACII and Brotherhood) Masyaf Costume (Grey outfit seen in Revelations) Altair's Armour (Black outfit unlocked in ACII and downloaded through uPlay in Brotherhood) Armor of Brutus (Dark outfit unlocked in Brotherhood) Helmschmied Drachen Armour (Unlocked in Brotherhood) Turkish Assassin Costume (Unlocked in Revelations) Desmond's Clothes (Including the Brotherhood and the Revelations versions) As you can see, quite a lot, and that's just clothes. If you know any others from the game you want, such as the guards armour or young ezio's costume, please post it below. Now, most of the models are ready, but the HSC has given me an inconvenient roadblock so I won't be able to continue the project for a couple weeks. Moreover, no screenshots just yet. I'm having trouble with my image host. So, to make this mod, I have a couple questions for you guys: Are there any robes/armours you would not like replaced? Would you like both a hood-up and hood-down version of all the replacement robes if possible? If so, would you want them as optional during the install, or all in the game at one time? [*] In ACII, during one of the missions you wear a very simple mask. Would you like the mask to be included?[*]AC allows you to recolour some of your costumes, and also has different capes. Should the recolours/capes be included? If so, would you want them as optional during the install, or all in the game at one time? Thanks for your time.

So, after self-imposed exile, I've come back with a brand new, reigion correct, all discs intact copy of KoTOR 1 AND 2. This is day is gonna be sweet.

There are projects by non-TSLRCM members to (separately) restore the GenoHardan stuff AND to bring back the cut Disciple's Holocron quests.

I was pretty amazed by some of the new downloads and projects. GenoHardan stuff is very interesting.

what is your job or what is your plans for the future
Extreme110 replied to bendarby24's topic in General Discussion
Seems like the wrong place for this topic, does it not? 18, only 3 weeks of school left and then a break before my final exams, and next year I plan on starting college to try get my Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Games Design. It's a 3 year, $90,000 course which I'm going to need HECS support for. I'd like to start my own Australian-based developer studio and be successful, unlike Team Bondi... Currently work casual time at Franklins, the smallest of all the supermarkets in Australia. I used to work at McDonalds, but that didn't turn out so well...
