[KotOR] New soundsets for Male and Female protagonist

Recommended Posts

Hello!

From what I can see, the developers originally intended to have three sets of sounds for the Male protagonist and three set of sounds for the Female protagonist but in the end they only completed two.

Might there be any interest in recording four more sets?

It shouldn't be a difficult task even for myself... It's just a matter of tweaking the soundset.2da file, create new .ssf and record the new lines.

We would need two guys and two girls for the last task.

Cheers!

Well if this is Kotor 1 than the voice over actor must sound like the original PC soundsets so it fits in though I don't think that would be a problem by replacing the old soundsets with new ones.

The reasoning behind Salk's last comment is because there are three races to play as (asian, black, white), so there's no real need to sound like the two already present since we're trying for diversity.

Huh. I was aware they recorded (or intended to record) different soundsets for black characters, but I did not know that about Asian characters

What files suggest this? Don't suppose a simple check in KSE would do it.... probably if the files are indeed in there. In which case, I wonder what happens if it's switched to that

Just find the sound files' names, then record blank MP3 files with the same name. Place files in override folder. Done.

Or just go to KSE and remove them. Done that before

"That hurt, I bet"

"Didn't work"

"Whoever steps on this will get a nasty shock"

"I'll avoid what I can"

"Ohhh, I think I've been poisoned"

Yeah. Not a fan either

Actually the four new voice overs do not need to sound at all like the two sound sets already present.

Well if your going to do that you'd need to replace ALL the PC soundsets because two different voices for one character doesn't quite make sense.

And it would have to make sense with all three Head options (White, Asian and Black) for example lets say Samuel Jackson (Actor of Mace Windu) did it his voice over it wouldn't quite fit in for the Asian heads

The point of a new soundset is that it adds a new set of sounds that includes ALL "voices" for the player. If you choose to use this new soundset, it would not mix with an existing one but replace all player sounds.

And the other point was that different heads would have different soundsets associated with them (after all, you only use one head per playthrough).

Some actors, such as Kevin Michael Richardson (Jolee Bindo), have voiced characters that have not been their race in the past.

After some years I looked back at this and it seems like there is no way (that I know) to add new soundsets for the PC because there is no "PC file" I can patch. The only way to change it would be via save game editor.

If someone knows of a way to do it, by all means let me know. I'm willing to have pros record the necessary lines to create the four missing soundsets (Bioware already has some lines in place for two more soundsets so only two would need to be 100% new material).
