    I would like to use Sith War Droids HD - 4X Upscaled Texture from NexusMods but I hear the author's mods all have issues with alphas.  If anyone can suggest how I can correct this myself using GIMP (as I don't have PS), I'd like that.

      You can try @ebmar's TXI mod, although I would suggest you don't bother with the upscales.
