I just tried out the mod and I really like it! I do have a few suggestions though:

Many thanks, AFP! Appreciate it- go on then, as I'm all ears

    1. I think the blade is somewhat overpowered as an item for the player. The stats are fine when she fights you, but as a receivable item it’s significantly stronger than anything else on Taris. I don’t think that’s necessarily a problem, as fighting her will probably be one of the last things you do now that she’s stronger, but I think it’s too strong. I’d recommend making it not upgradable, and possibly reducing the base damage as well. The blaster may need to be reduced as well, but I haven’t really checked it out much yet.

Yes! Thanks for the suggestion! The idea of having the sword to be non-upgradable is awesome- I get the picture, and I like it! Have it noted to be applied for the next update. And yes, reducing the base damage could be a possibility too, I'll take a visit to the .uti soon.

    2. I think the blade and sword should be renamed to “Selven’s Vibroblade” and “Selven’s blaster pistol” to make it fit in better with vanilla item names.

Actually, having the blaster named as "SS-SL7 Rapid Blaster" and the sword as "DM-SL7 Vibrosword" was just an idea to honor the designer of the base texture and the base modeler of both the blaster and the sword; SithSpecter and DeadMan. As putting the SL7 there was just an alias for them being customs. I'll consider this

Oh, in fact on Wiki stated that she carrying a Vibrosword, and then I'm using that as the guidance. I actually kind of forgot when in vanilla gameplay, which one is she carrying; a blade or a sword. 😅

    3. There are some misspellings in the descriptions of the items. I’d be happy to rewrite them for you if you’d like :)

Be my guest! So, here are them .utis to ease things up hopefully 😊:

    4. There are a couple lines in her dialog that sound kind of artificial because of the effects you applied.

Yes, that's because of her voice being pitched down. Strange though I did not apply any filters or using multi layers for the voice there; it was all natural result. Unfortunately I can't fix that "glitch". Did you happen to know what's causing the problem? As it seems I'm still going with the new voices, as I believe they suits the now her better. Thanks for pointing that out AFP!

I want you to know I think overall you did a fantastic job (I LOVE the new look and difficulty!!), and these critiques are just my opinions, and not to put down what you did at all :)

Many thanks again! I am so happy to hear that. I take that all in both the LOVE and the critiques- and very much appreciated! :respect:

Could still use a little bit of touchup around the beard. Oh, and the UV map.

Tempted to get a touch with the texture, here it is: Revan_Head_d_v3 [Edited - Subtler].tga

I can't tell how the end-result is, as there are no required resources installed on my PC. I hope someone can give me a screencap of how it looks, as I can only guessing that it would be a bit too sharp and kind of suggesting that there would be some unwanted noises there, sooorryyy 🤣

I have a bit of a concern about the stats. Now I may be wrong but from what I have heard Bludgeoning, Piercing and Slashing may "not exist" in a way, they might be left over resources from an older Bioware game. I know in K2 the Zabrak Vibroblade had 2 piercing damage but "piercing" didn't exist thus didn't work so in TSLRCM it was swapped for "unstoppable" damage. Regardless, I still think those are a bit overpowered. Perhaps if you used those weapons on your main character you should test how strong they actually are in a fight. If it makes fights very easy that is a problem.

Nice! Appreciate the input- many thanks! It seems I'm going to tweak the stats again and having it fixed in the next update using your recommendation as the benchmark. We'll see, as this stats was given referred to the plot that this Selven was designed to be encountered after all side-quests on Taris has been done; before the PC is going with Canderous to get the Ebon Hawk on Davik's Estate, that is the time in particular.

    Quote

I approve of the Stealth Field Generator, Nerve Implant, Scope and Neural Gear loot but I think that belt is too overpowered for Taris (It adds Dexterity +2 and Saves All +4, it is also found on Mika Durins inventory after the Leviathan very far from the Taris section of the game). Perhaps remove this belt from her droppable loot (Keep it on her for balance but don't drop it) because overpowered items aside isn't she wearing a Stealth Field Generator.

Thanks for the approval! And again, I'm considering your recommendation. Actually, the belt was intended as a "reward" from beating Selven. As the now Selven is much harder to fight, I thought it'd be nice to prize the player after beating her with something efficient, especially on this stage of the game. And for the equipped Stealth Field Generator; it was for immersion purpose- referring to her being always able to elude the authorities, in spite of the level of security stacked against.

    Quote

Last thing, that looks like a player head model so why not have her wear the neural bands and have it display on her head?

Yes, having her not wearing the Neural Bands was intended too- and it's for appearance reason. There is a plan in future updates to have the Neural Bands looted from the footlocker inside her apartment, instead of her remains- along with some stuffs that I'm not 100% sure of.

This mod presents you an overhauled version of Selven; a human high-profile assassin who became infamous for her extermination of the Ulgo family on Taris and tons of other assassination attempts.

     # Background #

"Now you'll see why I'm the most dangerous assassin on Taris".

    Spoiler-alert!:

    Spoiler

A line that will make most KotORians be like "Really? Hmm... let's see what you've got then, Selven!"- and less than 20 seconds later, feels like nothing is really happening then #truestory.

Bugged with the fact that Selven could possibly be beaten in less than 20 seconds with under-leveled PC and companions, along with her looks that just too ordinary point to the fact that she was a high-profile assassin who became infamous for extermination of the Ulgo family on Taris and tons of other assassination attempts; the project was started then.

    # About this Mod #

    • Changes to both the head and body texture so now Selven is more Selven. [Updated in 1.3]
    • Selven's much harder to fight. She was now designed to be encountered with high level PCs; more likely with Bastila in the party. [Updated in 1.3]
    • Some tweaks to the voice to fit her new personality.
    • Selven got a new pair of blaster and blade. They were described as SS-SL7 Rapid Blaster and DM-SL7 Vibroblade. [Updated in 1.3]
    • Some new stuffs in her inventory also; which some are proven to be valuable loots- if, she has been defeated. [Updated in 1.3 - 'Selven's "Vanilla" Difficulty and Inventory' patch included]

    # Final Remarks #

Critiques, comments, suggestions, questions and any feedbacks for the next update are very much appreciated- PM me at deadlystream.com [ebmar] or just write a public message on my feed. And thank you! for downloading, and playing this mod.

Hope you enjoy the mod as much as I do!

Installation: Run the installer [TSLPatcher.exe]. [Updated in 1.3]

Uninstallation: Remove tar03_selven031.utc from the 'Override' folder. As to uninstall only the new voices, you can overwrite them again by choosing the option "Optional: Selven's Vanilla Voices" from the installer directory. [Updated in 1.3]

Compatibility: Will not compatible with T7nowhere's "Weapons of the Old Republic" and any other mods that changes the value nor conflicted with tar03_selven031.utc. If you want to ensure this mod to work properly, install this mod after T7's "WotOR" and/or all other mods has. This mod is 100% compatible with Sithspecter's "High Quality Blasters" and DeadMan's "[K1] Vibrosword Replacement Pack", as the textures and models inside this mod are using different variations from the said mods. [Updated in 1.3]

RedistributionDo not redistribute this mod or re-release it on any website at all. If you're planning to re-use the assets from this mod- please, ask me for permission first. Most likely it will be granted. More importantly, give credits to Sithspecter and DeadMan, as SS provides us the blaster's resource and DM actually asking on his mod's page to only give him credits for using the blade's assets. And if you're planning to re-use the blade assets to a mod that you're going to release on Steam Workshop, it seems a permission would not be granted; referring to DM's wishes on the mod's page. While for others, a bit of credits to my name is always a welcome, welcome.  [Updated in 1.3]

Having some Trask Ulgo name drops might be cool because he's the only House Ulgo trace that we have in KotOR. I don't know how extensive you're going but maybe a character that talks about their "goody two shoes brother Trask who doesn't have the guts to get his hands dirty with assassinations" or something similar from an Ulgo member the PC happens upon.

Could that be... that Trask... was, a traitor!? Hahaha! Thanks for the ideas man- they are awesome! Keep them noted for now, but it seems them ideas so amazing can't say "hold-on" to that really. Let's see how things goes.

Might be cool, and if there's ever a need to voice such a character... ;)

Well, possibly by his great great great grandfather :P TOR takes place 300 years after KotOR. I don't believe any members of House Organa are named as active members during KotOR. I think you would have to make up some history if a name is necessary for your mod.

Nice, it would be less-difficult to make-up some history rather than stick with the actual fact to tell the truth lol. No, a name is not necessary right now. But I always have this thought that Selven actually have an important role with canon if, they really are connected. For example; point to the fact that Selven work as a freelance assassin for the highest bidder, it would be possible that She actually have an offer tabled by House Ulgo to wipe out House Organa back then. But maybe, that offer from Ulgo's was not tempting enough for her and meanwhile, Organa's tabled her a more interesting killing contract. So, she goes to work with House Organa then. So, here's the theory; if at that time she goes to work with Ulgo to wipe-out Organa and the assassination attempt was a success, maybe we wouldn't have Leia Organa on canon then. I haven't told you the plan anyway. So, the plan is to expand Selven story without distracting the canon KotOR storyline, and I believe, some research would be necessary.

I would assume that they were never given a first name if the wiki doesn't have anything on it.

So, there's nothing valid about it yet then? I am sorry if I don't follow you 100% UC, what I mean is; so there is still a possibility with "assuming" her being employed by for example; Charle Remmot Organa?

<string id="113783">*** Sith Troopers have boarded the Ebon Hawk, prepare to repel boarders. ***</string>
<string id="113784">*** All Sith assault troopers defeated ***</string>

You'd need to edit those lines.

Hope what I'm doing is not out of the discussion here.

Some added points to DP's explanation; there's this tool- "TLKEd" by @Fair Strides that can edit strings inside the dialog.tlk, I'm actually working with some typos with it. I did that with K1, and I'm not really sure if it will work with TSL. But as the bundled package itself is called TSLPatcher, I assume it will work like a charm too.

A short example of how to run with it:

    • Run TLKEd, and open the dialog.tlk file located inside the game installation folder.

    1688702968_TLKEdTutorials.PNG.3862997247bd40d964ef48ef3970f691.PNG

    • Go with the "Tools" button and click "Search...", after that you will get this appearance. And then on the "Text string" column, type what you wanted to find, and only with the keywords are fine; in this case they are "Sith assault troopers remain". Click the "Search" button on the left bottom of the window.

    1931436384_TLKEdTutorials2.PNG.a5cb88006c2615103a968fd5d97bdd2f.PNG

    • From there you will find bunch of strings with the assigned keywords. Sorry that I don't have the proper screencap as I'm not yet install TSL on my PC, but everything is quite simple down there; just don't play around with anything 😁 Click twice [or access] the intended string, and this window will pop-up. There, edit the entry with your likings- and after you've done with the editing, Save the changes been made.

    1269957521_TLKEdTutorials3.PNG.abc6c48a457603292520f29728ad68f3.PNG

    • From there, you will be shown this window again. If you have convinced no further changes were needed, save-overwrite the old dialog.tlk with the new-edited dialog.tlk. You can safely close the tool after.

    1775512243_TLKEdTutorials4.PNG.71308ebc900f496088c3387e3f6d4ac0.PNG

    Hope that somewhat helps!

Haha, see? I told you to ditch the normal map. It's not really needed for what you are doing. Well, not this version anyway.

    Quote

Adding one doesn't inherently make a model look better. On the contrary, a poor normal map will make it look worse.

But to be honest I'd just stick with SS's vanilla textures. They are more than good enough on their own.

    and for the font,

    Quote

By the way, looks like you need to connect the bits of your font together there. You might want to try switching between upper case and lower case, as usually those Star Wars fonts have provision for extension pieces to link letters. It should look something like this:

    SW_Font_Logo.jpg

Thanks for pointing that out!

Nice one DP! It seems you manually connected them, hahah! Actually, I have some ready to use Star Wars' fonts but I'm not sure I have one that resulting as what you did there. 🤔

As for that font; too late to notice- I go with the "hollow" version instead of others 🤣

  16. [Updated: July 07, 2018]

    Well, life does strange.

Spends most of my time fiddling around with normal map but in the end- with this update; I decided to not uses normal map either on the head, body, blaster and the sword's texture. 🤪

    The reasons are:

    • The normal map is not effective on my case, as it's obvious that I'm not advanced at optimizing this feature- I can't get the most from it.
    • I'm having new ideas with the looks especially with the armor, and I can't get them out with the normal map being utilized.
    • Obvious, with the normal map being taken out the size of the mod could be reduced about 2.5 MB so, efficiency counts.
    • Well, the new appearance somewhat pleasing for me so-

What's happening on the new looks?

    They are:

    • Selven get new pair of eyes.
    • Her armor got some metals injected.
    • The blaster and the sword had their looks slightly altered; noticeably with the reflection, and I am certain- they all blend more with the game now.

So, with the closing of this update is presented to you; yes- this is the final form of Selven "Legends" version 1.0:

    [Updated: July 05, 2018]

I believe the look of the blaster have been finalised now; as the achieved result was pleasing as-is, and the shade and tone of the blaster is fitting with Selven itself.

Along with the updated look, the problem with the "flaky" normal map on the texture and the muzzle glitch on the tip of the bullethook has been resolved.

The other thing is that SS's textures - presumably on purpose - have a lot of grain. Trying to generate normal maps from colour images usually ends poorly at the best of times, but the grain in this case would make for a very noisy normal map. A noisy normal map is a bad normal map. Additionally, the source texture is pretty low res. It works fine in the game given the size of the blasters, but again this makes for a poor normal map when taking into account the effect of compression artefacts.

The thing to keep in mind is that normal maps are not magic. Adding one doesn't inherently make a model look better. On the contrary, a poor normal map will make it look worse.

Thank you DP! This understanding is what is needed- appreciate it a lot!

Seeing as how my blasters have come up in several posts, I will try to clarify a few things.

The muzzles I kept in a very similar location to the originals. I think the power blast muzzle looks the strangest, as its model does have the most volume and extends back behind the muzzle hook. The regular muzzle flash is right at the tip of the barrel. In addition, many firearms have ported muzzle brakes so that the flash actually does come from porting around the barrel tip.

The textures were made grainy and a lower resolution as to blend in with the overall game as best as possible. Higher resolution source files should be in the modder's resource should you need them, with or without the grain as well.

Yes SS! I do must confess I've been causing this trouble for being lazy here. My bad! The fact is, I already downloaded the modder's resource you suggested, but at that time I already do the work with the low-res texture coming from the "High Quality Blasters", so I keep going with that. It seems there cannot be compromise on quality; if you were really looking for that quality. Lesson learned. And I do appreciate your effort which made the textures grainy and low-res as to blend in with the overall game as best as possible. I do believe that is an important thing which often being left out.

On 7/3/2018 at 12:11 PM, DarthParametric said:

Ah, I had forgotten that the source textures were available. I'd never downloaded them, so was only going from what I had on my HDD. Looking at the heavy blaster source, it looks like it would be easy enough to get a psuedo-height map out of that just by turning off the colour layers, although it might need some manual adjustment/cleanup in a few spots. Here's a quick and dirty example:

    K1_SS_High_Quality_Blasters_Derived_Norm

Although if you were going to go that route you'd want to turn off all the highlights on the diffuse and rely on the normal map for that detail. But to be honest I'd just stick with SS's vanilla textures. They are more than good enough on their own.

Appreciate the details! I'm going to start to work with what's inside the modder's resource then; as I am still, looking to get the most of the normal map from utilizing it with the blaster. 🤞
