Classic Postmortem: BioWare's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Recommended Posts

The entire issue of the magazine is available from the GDC Vault, which has an archive of all issues of Game Developer magazine (1994 to 2013) by the publisher UBM Tech - http://www.gdcvault.com/gdmag/

The direct link is - http://twvideo01.ubm-us.net/o1/vault/GD_Mag_Archives/GDM_December_2003.pdf (pages 42-46, with an interesting additional HK-47 concept as a page background, not shown in the Gamasutra version. Also a Q&A with Obsidian's CEO Feargus Urquhart on page 16 - Obsidian was founded just a few months previously)

A TSL postmortem is available in the April 2005 issue - http://twvideo01.ubm-us.net/o1/vault/GD_Mag_Archives/GDM_April_2005.pdf (pages 34-36)

The “Managing Multiple Projects” article by Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk mentioned in the K1 postmortem article is available in the March 2003 issue - http://twvideo01.ubm-us.net/o1/vault/GD_Mag_Archives/GDM_March_2003.pdf (pages 34-42)

The archive is not searchable unfortunately, so I don't know what other articles of relevance there may be. A quick Google search turned up reference to a NWN postmortem, but that was it.

Probably unlikely but is there an online version of the Kotor 1 and Kotor 2 Prima walkthrough book? (I think that's what it's called)

That would pose legal issues. Purchase a used copy.

You never know what you could uncover from it.

Where do you think this came from?

And this?

(An exclusive DVD that came with some versions of the Prima TSL guide. That's where.)

And Dvakvar the Devoronian also which hasn't been uploaded to Youtube yet. I'm not desperate for the books but it certainly won't hurt to have a read and maybe learn something I didn't previously know.

That has so little content it's probably not worth the effort; I doubt there's anything left to discover after nearly 15 years anyway.

If you're really interested, there's some footage of Dvakvar here.

Good to know someone else posted some of this footage as my DVD is currently in storage for the foreseeable future.

That's the exact reason I'm not desperate to get my hands on the books.

Thank you for sharing that link...Now I'm even less desperate for the books.

There might not be anything left but that won't stop modders from making up custom content for him. Imagine if the female alternative to the Handmaiden was a kick ass Devoronian with an interesting well written back story with none of the whiny bullsh*t the Disciple had and he had the ability to teach the player cool force powers and feats that the player couldn't get otherwise (Like Mind Trick, Beast Confusion, Sneak Attack etc)

It's just an idea for now

ANYTHING to get rid of Disciple xD

But seriously, you make a good point.
