These thoughts are purely my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of DeadlyStream.com

Some random thoughts about the current changes over at LucasForums - as I don't want to clutter up a Status Update:

I suppose my main issue with the current changes over at LucasForums - meaning as of right now - is I'm unsure why each of the changes were actually made.

Items were archived and whole threads were moved over to a new site called StarwarsGamer. If the sole purpose for all the changes is to open your site to a wide range of new game enthusiasts, why are you limiting yourself to a niche group like Star Wars games? There's only one brand new AAA Star Wars game being released this year (AFAIK) so moving everything to one area seems problematic at best. To put a finer point on it, where do you think all of these gamers are going to be coming from? The new movie that doesn't have anything to with the new or old games?

What effort has there been to actually find where the older games are sold to drive them to your site?

There's no reasons clearly listed as to why each of the moved threads were moved from one place to another - and why some threads have remained where they were. There doesn't seem to an overall theme to these changes. Perhaps there's a grand vision at work but at the moment it seems a little bit like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Who's in charge now over at LF? As a long timer user of the traditional LF - since 03-04-2006 - I see some familiar names promoting changes over there but I'm see a quite vocal minority of folks that I never ever heard of 6 months ago. Does the person in charge actually have a plan of how the site will look and operate in the end or is new each change being done to test out a theory? I'm not seeing the overall picture of what's going on over there.

Over here at Deadly Stream, we have tended to promote vocal and knowledegable folks from within the community that have actually been around for a while. I don't know anything about your new hires which makes feel a bit leery. Other than complaining about the LF site's traffic, what have these relatively new folks brought to the community?

I don't hate LucasForums. How could I be - I've been there almost 10 years. I'm just genuinely worried for it.

As I'll be attempting to reach out to Stoney, I thought I should ask you fine folks if there are any questions that you think I should ask Stoney about, mostly in regards to M4-78.

    1. First list how I should be pronouncing your screen name if I wind up using your question in the documentary.
    2. List your question/s.

Thanks for helping me provide you with a better quality documentary.

I do have Steam and yes, I do have codes so I can play KOTOR and TSL. (I just haven't redeemed them yet.)

However, I've never modded on Steam using that Steam Workshop. Could I get some tips - for a complete newbie like myself - to help me along? The main thing I'd like to do by learning how to do this is I'd be able to help folks with basic modding questions. The ultimate goal: being able to help those using TSLRCM and M4-78 EP (both with and without using the Coruscant planet mod).

As M4-78 EP on Steam is the newest version, please use that version in your explanations. Both text explanations and videos are welcome. Thank you in advance!

Hello again everyone. I'm looking for input on another project so let's just get down to it!

At some point down the road, I think I'd like to do my own Let's Play video of a game. I'll probably do a game I know for my first one so that'll make it either KOTOR1 or KOTOR2. I figure having doing a blind playthrough as my first game might make the challenge too tough for me. (Why make it harder for myself?)

If you have personally done Let's Plays, I'd like your tips and advice on how I could or should proceed. I'm looking for your advice and not just some list that I can Google for myself. The personal touch of having someone tell me what they've done themselves that's worked for them is key! (It also enables me to ask follow up questions as well.)

Just so you're armed with knowledge, here's are the things I'll be working with.

    Microphone
Blue Snowball Microphone (with a Ringer shock mount, stand, and a Pop Filter as well)

    Recording Software
FRAPS (most current version, legally paid for so I needn't worry about a watermark)

    Video Production Program
Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum (Version 13)

    Computer
    See here for part breakdown

Remember: I'm mainly looking for your own tips gained from personal experience. Thanks for reading!

While on vacation in Seattle I went to the Museum of Pop Culture. There were many props I took pictures of . (I'll be posting more of these later. However, one section of the cases had all of the names running through (at that time) a non-functional monitor.

I wonder: can any of you identify these guns and what movies they came from? Each picture is numbered to make it easier for you. (Yes, I threw in an easy one.)

    1. The Fate of Bao-Dur, Version 1 (Death on Telos)

This one's in movie script type format.

    2. The Fate of Bao-Dur, Version 1 (Death occurs fighting alongside the Mandalorians)

This one I grabbed from an email I sent to Darth Stoney. Do any of you remember Stoney? He was one of the guys that made the original TSLRCM and the original M4-78. (I just don't think he gets enough credit nowadays.)

    3. The Fate of Colonel Tobin (Death on the Ravager)

I was mentioned this in N-DreW25's recent thread but I'll repeat it here.

Unfortunately, the original thread I made about this was on LucasForums, but the general gist was a thought I had about this way back in 2010 - where if you convinced Tobin to do the honorable thing and help destroy Nihilus' ship - then he died in the explosion that destroyed the fourth proton bomb. It never got implemented in either TSLRCM or the Ravager Rewrite mod that Zbyl put together but seeing what happened to Tobin would tie up that loose end in a nice way. The advantage of this is you wouldn't need to record any new lines - the major lifting would be the scripting and the making of a new cutscene including Tobin.

Hi there folks. Did you all know I'm making an M4-78 documentary? Well, I am . . . and I'm asking for your help.

The Prologue for the documentary is more or less hammered out with my secret partner-in-crime. We're currently working on Chapter 1 which covers why M4-78 was cut from the game in the first place. There are few chapters here and I won't be spilling all of the details at this early date. Eventually there will be a section where I review the game. I think that many folks might have the same thoughts on the mod as I do and I'd like to hear it from a player's point of view.

    What I'm asking from you.

    1) A recording describing what did and did not work for you when playing M4-78 EP.

Caveat: I'm only looking for reviews of the most current version (version 1.2) as it's only fair to judge the work from the latest version which may have resolved issues you may have had with the mod in previous versions.

    2) I'd need the recording to done in a relatively quiet room with no background sounds audible. If you can reduce the echoes in the area you record, that would be even better. The better the sound quality, the more likely it could be featured in the Chapter.

    3) Whatever you do record, I'd also need the actual text of as well. It's a video and we'll be putting the text up on the screen.

    4) This will be an all ages video so keep the language to that level.

If you're game, send me a PM! Thanks for reading this and enjoy your day/night.

Hey there! You will be most likely be completely lost in you don't do Jedi Knight mods.

I need to get a particular wave from Mysteries of the Sith, the add-on pack from Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. The WAV file is named "rc61121.wav" and it can be found in the MOTS' JKMsndLO.goo. Thanks!

My birthday is on December 6th. I have an idea that will cost you nothing and may help the community. If you were leaning towards wishing me a happy birthday, I'd rather you invest your energy towards this concept instead.

Think of a mod you've download from this site. Anyone's mod. If you liked that mod - even a little - I'd love for you to go that mods page and leave a comprehensive review what you liked about that mod. Don't just leave a one sentence review - go into actual detail. What you leave should be mostly to completely positive.

Easy so far? Once you're done, link to your new review below.

    Thanks!

Here are some links that I'm either making open to the general public for the first time  - or in certain cases - reminding you that I've done so before.
Mod issues are your own responsibility as I won't be providing troubleshooting.

Sometimes, I need a long playlist to listen to when I'm running myself ragged on the treadmill. I had decided to record video of the Imperial Agent story arc when I would then convert into MP3s. After that was done, I added my own music choices. I went through the sound files to explore as many branches of character discussions so I could expand them. I even added extra NPC's on story missions - you can only have one accompany you at a time - if I felt they had something interesting or funny to say.

With all that effort being put into it, I eventually thought "I may as well add some custom album artwork to these MP3's". A small selection of those from Chapter 2 are what I have below. Enjoy (and please leave a comment)!

I'll have to get working on the rest of the YouTube documentary eventually but I'm going to need your input in order to proceed.
I'd like you to list which version you played, either version 1.2 or version 1.3. This is very important as some issues may have been fixed in 1.3 that were present in 1.2 !  (However, I still want to hear them as the documentary will cover each version in chronological order.) I'd like you to list where you acquired the mod. (Was it from here, MODDB, Steam?) I'd like you to list up to 10 reasons each - and no more than that - of what were the most significant issues you thought were holding this mod back.  Throw your well-written walls of text at me.  If you can't think of 10 right away but can think of some more later to bring it closer (or all the way to) 10, you can update your entry at a later date. One entry per person. (Hence me mentioning about the updates.)   This shouldn't be considered a debate thread as I won't be defending the mod.  I just want to hear what you have to say.  Your quotes may be pulled from your entries below to show the perceived common consensus among players.
    Thank you for reading.
PS: I'll be in Hawaii for about a week so I'll not be glued to the site.  I look forward to reading your comments when I get back.

Throughout both of the games, you'll find crates in several versions.  These cubes have different versions - one for each planetary location. (Excepting Taris with has three versions.)
I'll list them all, provide the file names, and put a link where you can download them all.
Why this may be important to you?
    1) You're making a movie and you want to show different crates for different areas.  This way you can swap the different textures in and out.
    2) You're making a mod for a brand new area.  Instead of looking through the KotOR Tool, you can use this blog page.
    3) You want to make sure all of the boxes use the highest quality version of the texture.

I'll be grouping these by planet, but not in game order nor alphabetical order.

    TARIS
There are three different textures for crates on Taris.  I believe the third more colorful version is in Davik's base.

    File name: LTS_locrat01.tga
    Size: 512 by 512

    File name: LTS_locrat03.tga
    Size: 512 by 512

    File name: LTS_crate.TGA
    Size: 512 by 512

    HARBINGER

    File name: HAR_Cr01.tga
    Size: 128 X 128
Suggestion: Use my pack at the bottom of the page as both crates will now use this larger sized, clearer texture.

This is the version I have included in the current pack. This texture is sized at 512 X 512 instead of the original texture. No renaming required.

    ENDAR SPIRE

    File name: LHR_crate01.tga
    Size: 128 X 128
Suggestion: Use my pack at the bottom of the page as both crates will now use this larger sized, clearer texture.

This is the version I have included in the current pack. This texture is sized at 512 X 512 instead of the original texture. No renaming required.

    DXUN

    File name: DXN_Crt.TGA
    Size: 512 by 512
Note: This texture is also used in altered versions for Tatooine (LTA_trim02.tga, LTA_trim02_00a.tga, and LTA_trim02_01a.tga)and maybe have also expected to be used for Sleheyron (LSL_crate00.tga).  Tatooine will be covered below as it's unique. Onderon (OND_t01a.tga) uses a slightly different version which reorders the boxes, and is also covered below.

    ONDERON

    File name: OND_t01a.tga
    Size: 512 by 512
Note:  Onderon (OND_t01a.tga) uses a slightly different version of Dxun's texture which reorders the boxes.

    TELOS

    File name: TEL_CBx.tga
    Size: 128 X 128
Recommendation: Use sELFiNDUCEDcOMA's version instead (shown below) from his mod. This texture is not included in the package at the bottom of the page.

    TATOOINE
This version not only covers the crates but also windows and a rusty wall

    File name: LTA_trim02.tga, LTA_trim02_00a.tga, and LTA_trim02_01a.tga
    Size: 512 by 512
Suggestion: Use my new upsized version instead (shown below) available in the pack at the bottom of the page. (You'll have to rename it to from "1024 - LTA_trim02 (New Version)" to the file names listed above.) My version (sized at 1024 X 1024) uses a new seamless rusty wall texture and uses the larger size of the box texture from Dxun so you don't lose as much crispness.

    MANAAN

    File name: LMA_crate01.tga
    Size: 256 x 256
Recommendation: Consider using my replacement instead? You'll have to rename this file from "" to "LMA_crate01.tga" (or to whatever name of crate you're replacing it with) before placing it in the Override. This texture is sized at 512 X 512. Included in package below.

    NAR SHADDAA

    File name: NAR_cr8.tga, NAR_cr8s.tga
    Size: 256 X 256, 64 X 64
Suggestion: Use my new version instead (shown below) available in the pack at the bottom of the page. (You'll have to rename it to from "NAR_cr8 (upsized)" to the file names above.)
    My version - sized at 512 x 512 - uses a recolored version of a different texture.

    PERAGUS

    File name: PER_locrat03.tga
    Size: 512 x 512
Note: Identical to one of the Taris crates but I included it anyway.

DRESHDAE (thanks to @Sithspecter for finding it)

    File name: LZA_crate01.tga, LZA_crate01S.tga
    Size: 128 X 128, 512 by 512
Suggestion: Use my pack at the bottom of the page as both crates will now use the larger sized, clearer texture.

TARIS (SITH BASE), also possibly Manaan Sith Base and Leviathan) Thanks again to @Sithspecter

    File name: LSI_box01.tga
    Size: 256 by 256
    Pros: Unique box design
    Cons: Lower texture size.

    NEW CRATE
Since I was spending all of my time looking at these darn things, I decided to make my own.

File name: DRO_crate01.tga (rename it to whatever you need)
    Size: 512 X 512
I used wall panels from the game to make a M4-78 version of a crate. (They had to be shipping their medical supplies in something!)
This texture is mostly a goof but if you can find a use for it, more power to you.

If you use any of the above in a movie or in a mod and you've found it useful, please list in your credits/read-me as "Set Direction Assistant: Sith Holocron"

This post is part of a continuing series I've been doing for Darth Varkor's next movie.   He mention that other than using Xarwarz's skins for Dantooine, that he was pretty open to suggestions. The next area we'll be talking about possibly improving is Tatooine!
When you set up your ideal Tatooine, what mods you do use?  Please list the mods that you use below for both the interiors, skyboxes, and the exteriors of this planet.  You can mix and match here so if there's parts that you like from one set of skins and you substitute a few of them from another mod, let us know which you use.  (You can let us know why you do so as well!)
In addition to skins, let us know if there are other Tatooine mods you use - fixes and other things - that you also use. For these, I'd definitely like to hear your rationale for using these.  Go ahead and point out any model fixes if there are any.
Finally, please add pictures to illustrate your points.  Don't attach a link to make us see it on another page though.  Have an IMGUR link (or something similar) or put it right in the post.
If you have questions, feel free to ask.
By the way, I'm still looking for feedback on the M4-78 EP.  If you would rather do that anonymously, PM me.

I've previously asked for a HK-Filter tutorial and had success with it thanks to information received on Reddit, so I thought I'd ask around for this next request. (Yes, I'll be asking about this on Reddit as well.)

I'd like to listen to various voice files and have them sound like G0-T0.

I have two programs which I use to do sound editing: Goldwave and Audacity. Though I'm more familiar with Goldwave, I'm perfectly willing to use Audacity to achieve my stated goal.

Can anyone provide a tutorial to teach me - and likely others that actually read this blog - how to create such a filter?

PS: If you visit this thread, why not post a note of some length explaining what you thought of this entry as well? I always wonder who reads my blathering.
  16. Sith Holocron
In some mods I've seen, there has been a shift to use more modern looking elements for in-game lighting and advertisements.  Though pretty, they don't seem to accurately give the "feel" that the Star Wars movies do.  After all Mass Effect isn't Star Wars and vice versa.  Therefore, I've created this blog entry to simply show off what I think those computer interfaces should look like by using pictures from the movies (and the production studio that created them.)

These shots come from the following Star Wars movies and are in no particular order: TFA, Rogue One, TLJ, and Solo.

What I Did For The Community Last Year

Have you wondered . . . what does Sith Holocron do as an administrator on this site?  Wonder no longer!

I’ve summed up what I’ve done this year so you can have an overview. Keep in mind some entries might just list a start date for an ongoing event – or it might take up from an event that took place from last year. There are also other things that I can’t freely talk about such as advice, staff chats, and secret projects that I am not at liberty to discuss.

Do you have some time? You’re going to need some to read through all of this as I've working on this document for most of the year. I originally was going to release this on New Year's Eve but I thought to myself: Why Wait?

Please note that some of these entries may come off like I have a chip on my shoulder. That may or may not be a figment of your imagination.

Received voice lines from voice actor for the characters I1-02 (in M4-78 Enhancement Project.) Paid for actor’s services. February 5, 2017 (an ongoing debate)
Indicated the read-me for M4-78 Enhancement Project needed to emphasize that the intentional vagueness of the journal entries was supposed to represent “old school” RPG playing. (IMHO: If HH wants to continue to claim that’s intentional, he should claim so in the read-me file.)

After working on it since April, I finally received some additional sound files from the voice actress for the next version of M4-78 EP that Zbyl2 and Hassat Hunter requested. Of this effort, I received no thanks from either of the aforementioned persons.

Attempted a behind the scenes initiative to have modders and/or machinima makers remake some - if not all - of the KotOR1 pre-rendered movies for the game.

    July and August
Offered sound files of KOTOR voice actors for machinima directors to use in the future videos. Dealt with questions that came up from the M4-78 EP Beta Team. (Yes, there was actually a beta team!)

    and so on . . .
I’ve done other stuff after October 4th, of course. However, I think you might have the idea by now, right?

    Throughout the year . . .
    · Run spelling and grammar checks on your posts. (And you thought my blogs on grammar were just for show.)
Of note: “Nar Shaddaa” is misspelled the most. Count out how many “a’s” and “d’s” you see in those two words and try to remember it.
    · Received numerous insults. (In addition to the above!)
    · Applied infractions and bans where necessary - Possibly but not necessarily related to above. ???? I inquired with other staff members when applying infractions. (It's not done in a vacuum.)
    · Worked on acquiring files for Ndix UR’s “Major Audio Classification” initiative. (You’ll have to ask him about that if you want more details.)
    · Sent numerous birthday messages to Members. (I’m picky about doing this. If I don’t recognize the name because they’re new or because I don’t see that person post (anymore), I often don’t bother.)
    · Provided input on various mods both in the threads or through Private Messages.
    · Work on unannounced projects which I am unable to discuss at the moment.
    · Other things of a personal nature but those involved know of what I speak.
    · Forwarded message traffic to the appropriate staff member.
    · Approved loads of mods. (However, I try to leave a majority of this to the Moderators.)
    · Ensured mod up-loaders have acquired permissions for materials used in their mods if they didn’t make a part of it themselves.
    · So. Many. Avatars. I really should cut down on that this year. (Nah.)
    · So many questions about when M4-78 Enhancement Project will be back on the site. I don’t know and you should stop asking me about it. Ask Zbyl2. Don’t bother asking Hassat Hunter about as I think he’s signed off doing anything with the mod ages ago.

So . . . what did you do this year? Speaking of which . . .

What You Could Do For The Community in 2018 (and Beyond)
These suggestions are specifically directed at those that don’t mod.
When you make a request – whether it’s for some new or altered content or a bug fix – remember that the folks answering you aren’t being paid. They’re giving up their time and energy with no financial compensation. So please make sure to do the following:

    1) Provide Relevant Information:
So . . . you have a bug. You want folks to help you. Then you must provide the information the modders need by utilizing the Read Me First threads for Knights of the Old Republic 1 or Knights of the Old Republic II [add links]. You’re most likely using K1R or TSLRCM but even if you’re not, providing the information specifically asked for those threads in vital before any can proceed. Plus . . . it’s in the site rules, ya know? {add links]

Have you made more than one request? You still have to provide the information in those threads. For each request you make, you have to update the information provided.

By the way, if you're mod configuration is so complicated that you have to have a Google Drive document in order to explain how you’ve put it together, you are the likely cause of your issue. That’s because you have too many mods and you have over-complicated your situation. (I wonder if I have someone specific in mind when I say this?)

    2) Provide Feedback:
If you like what you see, let them know what you’ve liked in the modder’s presentation. If you didn’t like what you saw, provide constructive feedback. Modders aren’t mind readers and seeing as you’re already made a request, don’t waste the modder’s time by only providing a two word comment. Provide detail! Consider this your initial down payment for a request - to provide the information that a modder needs.

    3) Utilize that Like button:
Let’s say you weren’t the original requester, but you liked what you saw. A simple way of letting of the mod author/s know he or she is on the right track (in your opinion) is to use that “Like” button.

    4) Giving Thanks:
One of my personal pet peeves is when someone makes a request, is provided with exactly what they asked for, and never makes a comment in the thread again. (I could point out numerous examples of folks not doing this but let’s keep things mostly civil for this blog.) The very least you could do is thank the person that helped you. Assuming you’re better than a person doing “the very least”, you should state how the mod or fix helped you. Yes, that means providing feedback. And like I previously mentioned, hit that Like button!
