  1. .. I literally mean what was presented in the film, not the mechanisms they used or their physical strength. The Ewoks used guerilla tactics which is the only resort of something that size. They ambushed single units and worked in a coordinated fashion to take down larger units (which was ultimately unsuccessful, save one)

You're trying to justify random attacks, which include ewoks trying to hit the AT-STs with their fists or dropping rocks. occasionally they manage something successful, but again it's just so bad.

The Gungans marched into the field and stood there. The fact that it's a ruse is irrelevant. There was no intelligent tactical purpose to the whole scene; it was a droid action figure commercial.

Welcome to 18th Century field combat 101. Troopers lined up to attack in lines rather than spreadding out and finding cover, this was probably what was employed. They also had a SHIELD generator, so that the massive influx of droids could be handed by their own hand-shield units blocking the fire and the artillery launching EMP balls at them. Not a bad strategy, They stood there because they knew they had to keep the droids occupied until the city was taken, moving and advancing on their positions may have jeopardized that.

We will have to agree that this is frankly opinion, I may have been young at the film's offset, but something as impressively traumatic as the ewok trying to wake his dead friend and discovering the sobering truth about warfare added needed dimension to the whole conflict.

Also, the tree trunk trap things are totally plausible to destroy an ATST like that.

Oh please, you're adding depth to a scene that probably has nothing more to in than "oh this is sad, feel bad for the dead ewok." Star Wars isn't exactly one for those Band of brothers themes at all (except for Republic Commando and Battlefront.) This entire concept is just grasping at straws mate, you using opinions to justify how "the ewoks are better" while I'm using facts

The tree trunk may have been plausible if it had sufficient mass to heavily dent a clearly structured tank, I don't think anyone would have done this on any tank in world war II because it probably would not have work

My point is that the Gungans have no crucial details about their culture, political structure, or military ranks. The fact that they were a diversion is merely them serving as a plot device.

... Are you kidding me? You yourself said they are run by a Gungan king, the movie SHOWS they have a council, and, oh yes, the king promotes Jar Jar to a General and as seen there are captains in this military... All elements which you say they don't have. And you say the ewoks do have some sort of functioning government and military? The ewoks at best are run by some tribal king and that's it... Dead and done, they end up worshipping a droid because they  have never seen it before, and Gungas are all like "meh" because they are far more advanced than that.

Yeah.. You've got me there. I guess I read too far into the lines of "Weesa no like the Naboo". Honestly there has been very little EU material about the Naboo people excluding the campaign in Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds.

What part of "When in trouble, Gungans go to Sacred Place" mentioned a different secret hiding spot for the rest of the Gungan people? The writers and animators didn't make them, because no one bothered to think that far into the plot. They needed a secret meeting with the Queen, and that was it.

Sacred Place doesn't necessarily mean one area, just because of what Jar Jar said... Again, it's CLEAR that the rest of the military shows up when they go out to battle the droids, not all of what we saw in the grasslands were in the forest with the Gungan King. Please watch the movie again, because your evidence is so poorly strung together it's almost giving me cancer.

In the meantime, we've veered quite off topic...

Indeed, I'd like to actually return to the subject at hand

  2. I watched an LP of the entire Freelancer game, and I couldn't be happier that it's finally getting a proper release. It is such a shame that the original is still incredibly rare, as it had an awesome plot and surprisingly dense Galactic map with which you can explore every corner of.. Also John Rhys Davies as a character VO. ;)

You can still get it on Amazon for like $15 or i think someone has it on GOG...

Microsoft needs to stop being such pansies and release the copy on Steam, it's one of my favorite games ever

  3. And what, if I may ask, has the current canon to do with the believability in the scene, when it was originally out? Just saying. I have no recollection of the movie at all, nor any EU around it, so I'm not adding any conversation about it more than that; I'm just curious about the arguments here.

I'm disproving his statement of how the gungans were at war with the Naboo, I touched on the "believability" in other posts mate

How dare you post anything of the Holiday Special.... Think of the children!

  4. By "plausible", I meant as far as the visual presentation. I have already said my peace in other topics of this forum on how stupid it is that a primitive army of anything armed with sticks and spears could contend with an elite force specifically designed to quell " rebellious local populations" IE a riot squad.

Then that supports my point, visually I see teddy bears with ancient mechanisms while the Empire has advanced technology... The gungan attacks were coordinated while the Ewoks played it by ear, they weren't nearly as organized.

However, as far as a visual presentation, the Gungans were "weird and primitive", and that's about all I could identify of them. True they may have been able to fight droids with EMP grenades, but to run up and fight them in the open like that was just a screenwriter's excuse to show the droid army in all of its splendor. (Which is the part I liked about it; so it worked?)

Yet they were able to form ranks, have an actual plan of attack, utilized different kinds of troops and vehicles to attack their enemy

The Ewoks were absurd in their capabilities but believable in their guerrila tactics and ferocity against overwhelming odds. As an idea they were idiotic, but on film they were believable.

The tiny teddy bears had little WW2 movie moments of bravery, foolhardy courage, and severe loss, and oddly enough that made me ignore how incredibly ridiculous it was.

How are they believable at all? Emotion or not, I didn't care at all about those "oh poor care bears getting blasted" That was the only part that was believable.

As for the Gungans, what was their ultimate strategy to prevent loss of life? What strategy kept them alive fighting their numerous wars with the Naboo? Why was there an authoritarian command of the armed forces, and why did they find Jar Jar to be the right candidate for that strategic leader?

Their strategy was a diversion so that the Queen's forces could infiltrate the city and take the capital, clearly explained in the movie. Their form of government is irrelevant to them being an effective military, and again, the final point is a support for the whole Jar JAr sith lord theory, he was MANIPULATING them

You know nothing about the Gungans except, 1: They have a fascist government under the leadership of Boss Nass

2: They have been at War against the Naboo (and everyone's totally cool with it, apparently)

3: They have a unique appearance and weapons

4: They live in Underwater cities but are somehow able to evacuate to land. (curiously with only soldiers and with no civilian women or children)

Where, at all, does it say they are at war with the Naboo? Not in the movie, and whatever book you're citing is no longer canon. The hostilities are mere quabbles and disputes, not wars... I think you need to watch Episode 1 again.

The civilians were possibly evacuated to a different place, I doubt they would put all of their military in one position, as shown in the scene... It was a fraction of what they mustered in the grasslands battle.

I'm wondering what your point is with this quote and how at all it supports your thesis that the whole Ewok battle was superior in any way to the Gungan battle. Mesa Denken Yousa just hate the Gungans

  5. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/

I could not be more hyped. I was a huge fan of Wing Commander and Freelancer, wishing Freelancer had gotten the treatment and sequel it deserved. Now it looks like it is.

What are your thoughts? An FPS game with a space sim all together? Is it too ambitious? I think this could work, but you're probably gonna need a kickass rig... I have one :P

  6. The issue with MCU is how repetitive it's becoming... instead of: OH BOY ANOTHER MARVEL MOVIE, it's: ok, let's see what they're doing.

Still, the trailer looks good. I never read the comics, but as a casual fan I can say it looks good... but that final line has me itching my head. When, if ever, were Captain American and Iron Man friends in the MCU? As far as I can remember, they were rivals always snipping at each other for the most part.

As for Batman v. Superman... Couldn't that have just put the title as Dawn of Justice? Would have been far better, less of a mouthful. I'm not convinced by Jesse Eisenberg as Lex, and the trailer wasn't exactly promising.... They basically ran through the entire plot for the most part, and that's just bad...

Overall: Civil war is going to be the better movie, because I haven't seen anything from the DC heads that proves they are gonna match up. the last good DC movie was the Dark Knight (rises sucked and Man of Steel was meh at best).

  7. I actually played this back in 2005 for the first time when I was 10, still love the game.

I prefer Kotor II to I, but I still hold some love for me. I just wish some parts would be fixed. I always play now with the dialogue mod that's more realistic, but I want a mod that completely removes Juhani without forcing me to use a custom party member... unless it was yuthura.

I actually have been brooding creating a Zaalbar overhaul, because that character was just completely thrown away it seems and could have been a lot better. Ah well

  8. Depends on the game, Kotor I's Dark Side playthrough is largely bland and unrewarding since it's so painfully one-dimensional, but at times it's fun

TSL it's 50/50... Dark Side playthroughs are often fun, and sometimes more rewarding than light side because of how different it turns out, and how Kreia basically bitch slaps you for killing the masters... there's a lot I can cite: Fantastic writing, chilling dialogue, and the Vaklu sequence of Onderon is far more enjoyable than the Talia sequence... (assuming Vaklu is dark side

  9. And this is my biggest issue with film 'critiques'... He did not act bad, he acted the way GL told him to act... big difference, the way he portrayed Anakin was the way GL wanted Anakin to be

QFT... One of the reasons Matt Lanter was so good at portraying Anakin in the Clone Wars series is because he actually had people who could legitimately write and direct, George Lucas was hardly around.

While Christensen may not be the best actor, he certainly gets far too much criticism for what he does

EDIT: I'd like to point out that the talent he was surrounded by didn't put up that much of a performance either. Lucas managed to get me to snore at Natalie Portman and Ewan McGreggor (until EP3), and worst of all Samuel Jackson... The only actor who I felt was real and really did a fantastic job all throughout was Palpatine's actor Ian McDiarmid

Personally I found the battle with the Ewoks more credible, due almost entirely to that traumatizing scene of when Wicket's friend gets blasted by an ATST..

You see more dimension beyond "teddy bears with spears", when they display some actual emotion at having to fight an enemy that disproportionately stronger than them.

Right, because an army of teddy bears with spears is perfectly capable of killing fully trained and armored soldiers equipped with lasers and armored walker tanks... Sorry, but  every time  I watch ROTJ I try to skip nearly every scene involving the ewoks other than the final one, because it's so bad it's funny. The Gungans are far more plausible as an army than the Ewoks because they had weaponry capable of combatting the droids, I.E. the EMP balls, there's also the fact that their society is far more developed than the Ewoks, as the Ewoks are the equivilant of Homo-Erectus to the Homo-Sapien.

No offense, but some of you need to get your nostolgia goggles off

  10. Where? I'd like to see that.

    Doc Evil -

You may be right, I don't know. I personally am not getting overly into the hype for the new movies, especially because I'm not sure that they'll even be any good. I guess I'm just more of an interested bystander.

I guess it's also just a little bit hard to believe that this was planned from the start, since they left it out of the prequels and waited (at least) fifteen years to actually reveal it... if it does show up, I'd find it easier to believe that they stuck it in more recently. Also because it's (at least some) different people making it.

I dunno. I don't have an official opinion/side about this, I'll just see where it ends up. I will say, though, that that would be a pretty good plot twist.

I'm not into the hype either, I'm just analyzing on what is actually quite plausible for these new movies. It doesn't make sense for them to stand completely apart from the other movies other than characters

  11. Jar jar has been confirmed (EDIT: I should say he has been hinted at being in ep. 7 by several actors and JJ), so has Anakin for ep. 8 (probably as a ghost)

All JJ said was that he was a skeleton in a desert probably, which is either a red herring or a confirmation of my theory of Plageuis --> Jar Jar --> Snoke.. While he did comment on the theory on EW, he didn't say anything conclusive other than it was "an amazing theory"

    http://www.ew.com/article/2015/11/30/jar-jar-binks-fan-theory-jj-abrams

As for the actors, I'd like to see a source on that please

  12. Not trying to rain on your parade, or hate, or anything like that, but what evidence is there that anything involving any of these characters is going to be in the new trilogy?

I myself had the impression that it would be mostly new, with the classic characters from the original trilogy.

    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Snoke

This guy is the person who said "there has been an awakening" in the very first trailer, I think it it's pretty much confirmed he's in these movies [/sarcasm] Snoke is said to be alien, tall, and somewhat snake-like... And let's face it, bringing in a brand new sith lord never before mentioned would be lame because it makes the effort in the OT pointless and that a sith lord will rise no matter what.

Also, this trilogy, whether you like it or not, will include tie-ins to the prequels that make all 3 trilogies connect somehow. Darth Plageuis as the big bad guy in Episodes 7-8-9 makes a lot more sense than some brand new sith out of F***ing no where, because Plageuis was said to be able to preserve life of those he cared about... Sith care nothing but for themselves, thus he preserved his own life. Please do your homework, and correct me if I'm wrong but you need to read the entire Jar Jar theory through

  13. Here's how I predict this might unfold in the new trilogy: We won't see Jar Jar(Darth Plageuis) as himself but rather the new body that Snoke embodies. We see Jar Jar in the desert of Jakku and automatically think HAHAHAHAH HE GOT WHAT HE DESERVED USELESS FOOL, when the body is there for more than just fan service but rather as a shedding of skin. When we actually meet Snoke/Darth Plageuis, he reveals himself as the true person behind Palpatine the whole time, and he hid among enemies more effectively that Palpatine.. etc etc...

Long story short, Plageuis transferred his spirit to a more potent, more fear inspiring body "Snoke" and thus assumed control of what was left of Palpatine's Empire and formed the first order. Thus both sides, the Jar Jar haters and the Sith Jar Jar fans, are happy.

Here's a video that supports my thesis -->

  14. I don't care if Jar Jar is actually a Sith Lord, he should not return...

And this is exactly the kind of closed-mindedness that makes a lot of the prequel haters look cancerous(no offense), same with those moaning about the OT edits. I myself don't like the prequels, but I at least can admit and see that some of it was done right.

Jar Jar Binks, I agree, was horribly done, but that's a fault of Lucas's execution... Had he actually envisioned Jar Jar as the true sith lord, then that's brilliant in itself. Cutting Jar Jar out of a few scenes and reducing the childish humor would have actually helped make that case.

  15. This says about the same and is a bit easier to digest since it's in video format:

I honestly scrolled past the idea in Reddit and laughed really hard... but after reading through it, it's actually quite plausible. I almost want this to be the truth... It's just that there's one piece missing... Maybe Jar Jar is Plagueis
, Sidious's master. Think about it, Plagueis is so powerful that he can keep others from dying, so why can't he do the same for himself? Now yes, it's established that he's a Muun, but that's legacy canon and that's not being used for the new movies. Then there's the idea that "wouldn't Palpatine recognize his old master?" Not necessarily. Either they would establish Plagueis as perhaps a changeling who took the identity of Jar Jar, or perhaps his force spirit took over Jar Jar... Despite his old apprentice killing him, (or so we think), plagueis still assists his old apprentice from the shadows in an effort to destroy their common enemy: The Jedi.

Or Jar Jar could just be another sith entirely, who knows. TBH this theory isn't that far fetched. And yes, even if it is true the prequel still have a ton of flaws but that's because Lucas was the director rather than the visionary force and that's it. And from what I heard he had the crap of midichlorians back in ESB but didn't incorporate it. Still, he came up with the brilliant decision of making Vader luke's father, so I doubt it's beyond his ability to create a similar deceptionary plot twist here. And the other holes are pretty much covered in either the reddit thread or the video, as Lucas did say "Jar Jar is the key to everything" and how he (perhaps sadly) changed the original plot of the prequels due to fan backlash.

Also, I seem to remember one of Disney's goal's for the sequels is to somewhat redeem the prequels. If this were true and Jar Jar was snoke, this would definitely help in that.

I actually am itching to re-watch TPM now with this in mind, I can't even believe I'm saying this...

(there's also the conspiracy that this whole idea was created on Reddit by the developers of the new movie themselves to ease the blow for when this is true, but that also is probably the tin foil hat kiddies)

All in all, this theory is great... You could compare it to the indoctrination theory for Mass Effect in its effort to create something good out of something that's nonsense, but the difference is that the evidence here isn't "oh it's a dream" or stuff that doesn't make sense, it's deliberate directing... Indoctrination theory actually was false because Mac Walters is that bad of a writer

  16. No Order Here:

Half Life 1 - Half Life 2 is freaking fantastic, but the game that started it all is still my favorite as it innovated the shooter genre. I'm waiting to play it once again since Black Mesa hasn't been wrapped up yet, but I have hopes it will before next year is out.

Mass Effect 1 - Flawed but epic, This was perhaps Bioware's last great game. TOR was garbage, Mass Effect 2 was a letdown, DA2 was bland as crap, and ME3 was garbage all around. Mass Effect isn't your typical RPG, but it definitely set itself out as one, as well as being the best sci-fi space game out there. It's just a damn shame that EA took the reigns of Bioware and forced them to cater to the shooter crowd. As for what made it good, it truly made it feel as you were in space rather than just running around pew pewing everything. I won't go into detail of what ME2 ruined right now, but if your curious I'll go into detail on another post

Fallout: New Vegas - 3 was fun, but it wasn't a true RPG, more of just an action open world game like Skyrim is. Obsidian took what Bethesda did and made it that much better, plus their excellent dialogue writing and wonderful DLC and this game is quite possibly my favorite RPG ever made, and speaking of Obsidian

Star Wars: KoTOR 2 - I liked Kotor 1, but not as much as everyone else did. The dialogue was so cheesy at times it made me cringe and some of the characters they forced on us didn't read well on me. Obsidian took that part out and made every character feel real, and made Star Wars feel a lot more real than it ever has. It changed from the classic light/dark dichotomy to a more complex plot. Shame that it wasn't finished initially, but the TSLRCM team got the job done

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Never played one since I never could get it working, but I really loved DX:HR and am excited for Mankind Divided.

Tribes - Yeah, i'm one of those. I still love the classic shooter style, and tribes was my absolute favorite

I'm sure I'm forgetting plenty of others

  17. I agree with everything on this list, Id like to add some to the negatives though, The thing that frustrated me most about this game is how it did not feel like it was set in the SW universe... IMO, Vader and Luke Skywalker should move how they do in the movies and other games, their movements feel so unnatural in the games, the same goes for the stormtroopers and rebels... like seriously, Also the lightsaber system was rubbish I could not believe that they let this hack and slash in the alpha, but to leave it in the demo was ridiculious, its 2015, not  2003... (JKJA system was alot better). I was also rather mad how the empire does not use jetpacks (even though many troopers did), yet the rebels use jetpacks (Seriously, a few special units inside the rebellion used jetpacks, not every bloody trooper, they felt so out of place and misused in the game), Also was rather frustrated how awful the flying felt in the demo (It feels way to stiff)... again, I thought they would have fixed this from the alpha, but obviously not. Other things that annoy me about this game includes the $50 season pass (which ill assume will be an annual payment like most of their games, I hope that TCW is added in... I might buy the game if that was part of the DLC), their awful decision on how they have set up the servers (Its a multiplayer game that could have no servers in two years... not a great decision), and we cant mod the game, wheres the fun in that?? One of the reasons why SWBF 1 and 2 were so good and people like myself still play them was because of the many mods created for them... Its sad how EA have treated the Battlefront franchise, and after TOR (which I have some large issues with myself, it just doesnt live up to the name, KOTOR and TSL were great, and this game just wrecked those great stories)... I think ill be boycotting anything EA release's from now on

Yep, TOR was garbage as well. Retconned everything good about TSL and just went back to happy-go lucky black and white formula. EA ruins all that they touch, just look at Mass Effect. ME3 was utter crap and ME2 was practically a gears of war clone with RPG elements

I honestly don't mind the jetpacks because they are more like a double jump thing, but it's not something I'm too happy with. And yeah the lightsaber system with the heros was so hilariously awful to use
