Lore-Friendly Mandalorians as Taung race NPC's and their Armours from TotJ

Recommended Posts

As some of you may know, on the first years of the SW EU (Legends), there were Tales of the Jedi comics (4000-3986 BBY) written by Tom Veitch (and Kevin J. Anderson since "Dark Lord of the Sith" arc).

During the "The Sith War" arc (3996) Mandalorians were included on the story, however they didn't look a like we saw them on the previous films (like Boba Fett), nor how we after saw them on KotOR games (3956 BBY). They were different, they were not just like a culture or Creed (like The Mandalorian showed us), but as a race known as the Taung

So, during Exar Kun's Sith Wars, all of Mandalorians were Taung (there wasn't any Human-Mandalorian). This changed with Mandalore the Ultimate, who (after seeing many Mandalorians dying in the war) decided to open their hands to reclute more species to their culture. Which is interesting considering thousands of years after that, Taungs were likely extinted, but Mandalorian culture remained.

Between Exar Kun war and KotOR it happened 40 years (it is not that much time), however we never see any Taung during KotOR games, nor the armours the saw them wearing on Tales of the Jedi. So, the idea would be incluing not just some Taung species Mandalorians, but also some similars Taung-Mandalorian armours they wear on Tales of the Jedi: The Sith War, to make it more Lore-Friendly with the Tales of the Jedi comics.

The unfortunate issue here is that the Mandalorians are obviously not unmasked in the original TOTJ art you're posting, and the weird Yautja-esque designs invented later are one of the more confusing retcons of late-stage Legends.

Mandalore the Ultimate (the name he takes after taking Mandalore mask) is actually the unmasked alien we see in TotJ: Dark Lords of the Sith #6. The thing is that this specie's name wasn't established for years, then the name "Taung" (that was mentioned in Shadows of the Empire Sourcebook) was retconned to refer to this first Mandalorian-specie. But, since TotJ Mandalorians were meant to be this alien specie. The retcon was about its name, not about the design. So it would cool to have some Taung specie as NPC's in the game.

On the Wookieepedia article for Taung's I found the following quote:

Quote

The Mandalorian Wars had been one of the bloodiest conflicts in the history of the Republic, and the casualties among the Taung species had been severe. By the war's end, most believed that the Taungs had been driven to extinction, though at least one Mandalorian Taung—an unsubstantiated claimant to the title of Mand'alor—survived for several years after the war's end.

It appears that, during Kotor, the Taung were on the verge of extinction, not quite, but still few enough in number that their lack of an appearance makes sense.

If there was a mod, Taung should be extremely rare and  if a boss, Taung should be a Top Tiered Boss with Mandalorian themed weapons. He could be a Mandalorian Leader for Kashyyyk

Yeah, it make sense not to see them on KotOR games 'cause a lot of them died in the Mandalorian Wars, but I think it would cool to have just a few on them during the game.

Even better, fighting some of them and contributing for them to extint, and the mod could be configured for the Taung to leave some items explaining about how most of their race are already extint, and that there're just a few of them around during those days.

Dark option is to help them to extinct; Light option is to go in peace and leave them be

A Taung in Kashyyyk as a Mandalorian Leader/Boss would be great! Like one from the group of the Invisible-Mandalorians Quest.
