  1. The last time I played KOTOR, K1R was, I think, 1.0. So, naturally, I did a fresh install, yada, yada, yada. I love the added lines from Allronix's Dialogue Pack, so I decided to just put it in after K1R. A risk, I know but I figured any file name conflicts would flag immediately. I only got a conflict with Juhani's dialog file. I installed both 'Crew' and 'Scenes'. Now, do take that with the grain of salt that I have yet to complete a full playthrough with the mods as they are (and I also have quite the list of mods *anyway*). But, at least on the surface, they should play nice. Happy Gaming All and thanks for this lovely mod.
  2. I have a question that you may want to add to your guide. For me, I've been able to keep my override folder fairly neat by keeping mod files (except the 2das) in folders that tell me which mod the files belong to. (ie: After running TSLRCM, I copy all but the 2das to a folder I've labeled as Restored Content and then delete the files from override. The mod still works but I don't have so much clutter.) My question is: Does the same hold true for the workshop folder override? The 'traditional' game override accesses files even if they are one folder deep (but no more than that), so is the same true of the workshop folder override? Thank you for writing the guide and helping us Steam users out with this update.
  3. Thank the Lord for the Wayback Machine...even if you can't download anything from it, the Wayback allows us to still see all the mods. All the ones that I personally downloaded were on gamefront, so I guess that the majority of those mods are still on gamefront. At least they were as of this week. I know my personal strategy moving forward will be to find the mods on Wayback and then go to Gamefront. Gamefront's formatting on summeries leaves much to be desired.
  4. Okay, if you've been poking about, then you may have heard that the new update Steam did to KOTOR2 is causing...issues. I really don't know if that's what your problem is or not. It may be that KSE is closing after 5 seconds because it's getting jinxed if you will by Steam's idea of the latest and greatest. You may wish to try going into game properties (in Steam's game library KOTOR 2) and then go to the Betas tab (odd I know). Opt into the legacypc- and let Steam update. Then try KSE with a fresh save. You can copy/paste your saves to a different location if you wish, but use a fresh save. Doesn't have to be fancy, but we are just trying to cover our bases. Once you have your fresh save, then try to use KSE and see if it stays open more than 5 seconds. Now for my stupid questions: I know you said you got it to run on your friend's computer and your college laptop, but did you have KOTOR 2 installed on those pcs? (I think I can guess the answer but I'm going to ask anyway.)
  5. ooooh...ummm...you might want to go further until you get to Ebon Hawke...I uninstalled that when I put in SLM, but I don't think you are 'allowed' to use saber console on Peragus...so that might be why you got booted. If one might *ahem* impose...as long as you are playing around with mods...could you download http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/496-tsl-default-replacement-hilt-mod/ and then in game cheat a 'saber in to see if the hilt texture appears 100% of the time with your method? When the patch downloaded Tuesday, all of my mods stayed in override and, obviously, the 'saber texture mod threw tantrums (hence this thread). The way I'm using and the legacypc- thing will certainly work, but I'm just curious to see if you can get stuff working by coming from a different angle. If you don't mind playing guinea pig...if you do...no problem, ignore me . I just get curious about that kind of thing.
  6. Thanks...did using the Restored Content Workshop folder as an override substitute work for you? I'd love to hear if it does work...might induce me to give the so-called update another whirl.
  7. Might sound like a stupid question, but did you extract all the files from the download and/or extract to the same location? Second stupid question: which version of KSE is this? I know you said you just downloaded but just making sure. You may wish to redownload KSE from http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/503-kotor-save-game-editor/ . Sometimes even the best connection doesn't get the perfect download...so if you are having this much trouble, try a redownload. I know this program does work on Win 7, because I've used it numerous times on my Win 7, so I wish you luck with your troubleshooting. As a last note: third stupid question: Which version of KOTOR 2 are you using...to be more specific...is it Steam? 'Cause Steam's update is already causing more trouble than it's worth.
  8. Filefront may be down but, if if you know what you are looking for, the mods are, as of two nights ago, still on gamefront under their respective games. Search for "Knights of the Old Republic" click on whichever game you intend to mod, then click on files. You will get the same general catagories as Filefront has and both a title and a summery of whichever mod (though very poorly formatted). It's basically the long way 'round, since all the mods were downloaded from gamefront.com anyway. If you must see the Filefront site, you can use archive.org for that...I did that and could do everything except the search and the download.
  9. Pardon the utterly idiotic noob question, but how does one opt for the legacy beta in Steam? 'Cause that sure sounds like a much simpler solution to me...especially since I have zero interest in the Steam workshop at least as regards to KOTOR:TSL.
  10. lol I guess I'm not the only one who doesn't worry about what a folder has until things go south. Don't worry about it, I found my answer with the fresh install I did to duplicate my issue. I have four screenshots of the saber hilts to show you. Single Hilt: 1. Blue Effect: (You can sort of see how the hilt itself has a different shape, which tells me that the mod is there and 'working') 2. Angle at which Texture reappears: Double Hilt: 1. Grey Effect: (Once again you can see how the hilt has a different shape) 2. Angle at which Texture reappears: For all the screenshots, the 'saber in question was a blue hilted 'saber. The icons in the bag were accurate. The 'saber textures and other files are specifically from Oldflash's FinalTouch mod. I did NOT install that with the Patcher. The mod itself changed so much, I didn't want that. I went through the patcher folder and found the 'saber files, then lifted them to the override folder. If you want me to upload the .mdl, .mdx, .tga, or .txi files, I can do that. I just don't want to step on Oldflash's toes or Filefront's toes...I know Oldflash doesn't have his mods on Deadlystream...or at least I've not seen them. Please let me know if you need any other information. I might have found a solution, but it's rather cumbersome and I'm sure folks would prefer a simple and sweet answer.
  11. Appreciate the troubleshooting Jorn...I may deliberately reduplicate the problem so I can screenshoot it and provide more info for people who don't want to go through all the complicated steps. I do have an unrelated question...does a fresh install have files in the Modules folder? I wanted to check but one thing TSLRCM doesn't have is an install log.
  12. As someone who has had to do fresh installs multiple times, there most certainly ARE leftovers. You must, must go into Steam's folders and delete the game's folder to insure a fresh install. Do wait until you've deleted local content, or else you'll have to wait even longer for the recycle bin to finish. And yes, save anything you really want to save outside the game's folder, up to and including swkotor2.ini, else you will have to redo all your game settings and redo any edits to that file (like adding windowed mode or enabling cheats).
  13. *sigh* I've never had to 'reinstall' texture mods, because they don't use the patcher, they are just files one puts into Override and hey, Presto, something changes in game. For lightsabers, I actually have two mods: one mod that changes the blades to be thinner and a bit more 'movie-like'. I got that mod here on Deadlystream: http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/241-lightsaber-blade-replacement-pack-tsl/ . The other mod I got on Filefront, which seems to have gone down in the past couple days *le sigh*, and that mod (by Oldflash) changes the hilts of the lightsabers...it does have files for the blades, but since I already had that covered, I just tucked those files back in a buried folder and went with the hilt specific files. It's specifically the hilt mod that's having these problems, not the bladed ones. I suspect, though I don't know for sure, that the problem is somewhere in either the .mdl, .mdx, or the .txi files. I have a few of the mod tools on my computer, but nothing that will open those types of files so that I can provide more information to you all. One thing that I have noticed, and may provide some insight, is that whatever this...issue is, seems to be restricted to the game provided 'sabers. I also have Jorn's SLM installed and my PC's Jorn 'saber does NOT have this issue as far as I can tell. My suspicion is that a fresh install from Steam will keep this problem, since Steam is going to download the 'new' exe and files and folders. I may attempt to see if I can pull my backup in and try this workaround trick, but I've never tried that before. *sigh* I did look at my entire KOTOR: TSL folder and they did not 'just' put files in override. There are brand spankin new folders, the exe has been updated and several existing folder have also been 'updated'. As some further information for Jorn: Steam is an online store for games, mostly PC games. Once you buy them, the games are downloaded via Steam's own application to your computer. They then launch through Steam and operate as normal. Steam adds a social component but for both KOTOR games, it's best to disable that, because it can seriously mess with the games. While the games will run on a Win 7, I have found that I must run them in windowed mode or some of the cutscenes go black. This is the first time I've had trouble with mods because of Steam and not my own user related idiocy. EDIT: 7:00PM Central Time Zone 07-22-2015 I'm going to have to be verrrry careful, but this trick, with some modifications, actually worked. Steps for anyone who wants to try. 1. Pray to the Lord that you have a backup of this game from before yesterday's update 2. Restore the backup to another location: Based on my own experience, another drive will be required (I restored from backup to the backup drive in question) 3. I personally relocated the game to a different location on the same drive that it is currently installed in - I do advise the same for others 4. Add the new location to Steam via the "Add a non-Steam game to my library" option, you may have to browse to the new location 5. Bring up the Steam location on one explorer window and your new location in another window. Delete all of the folders the Steam update added and the folders down to the Modules folder (Delete them all if you want a fresh install, as even my backup was modded, I did not have that option) 6. Copy over the folders from the backup to the Steam folder, make sure that your folder list is identical between the two locations 7. Copy over all the non folder items from the backup...the exe WILL be smaller, you want that! 8. If you did not copy over the Module folder, you may have to either live with the files or reinstall any mods that change the module folder (I'm honestly not sure, as I've never peeked in the modules folder before installing mods - but I did have a backup of my modules folder in a third location) 9. Enjoy! Reasons behind the steps: 1. While the backup location will launch just fine, the exe defaults to the Steam location (to my dismay). I immediately noticed that although the backup had different saves and different mods, the game launched with the Steam saves and mods 2. I first attempted to simply copy over the exe, the game refused to launch 3. I then copied over the non folder files, the game launched but threw at least five error windows before launching and no longer let me skip the opening credits 4. I finally removed all the folders (with the exception of Modules, Override, and Saves) that had an update date of 07-21-2015 and copied over the folders from my backup 5. The game then played without errors and my hilt mod was back and fully intact Therefore: It is clear to me that something in the Steam updates did indeed screw up the texture mods (and their update was not confined to the Override folder). Unless some of the modders figure out a way to get the hilt textures work with the new exe, folders, etc, it is highly likely that anyone running with Steam will either have to pull some shinanigans or accept that some texture mods will not work with Steam any longer. I wish I knew what caused this reaction but I didn't and still don't. I extend my deepest sympathies to my fellow Steam users...some may celebrate, but Steam sure dropped a doozy on us, too bad we can't push it back at 'em. As a further note: While I only tested my texture mods, there may be other mods that Steam has managed to ruin with their little update.
  14. I run with the Steam version of KOTOR:TSL and tonight (07/21/2015) Steam updated the game. I'd disable updates if I could but Steam no longer allows mere users that luxury. Talk about a pain in the butt. So I checked override, made sure nothing got overwritten and then when I got in game, the default saber hilts were all blue. I have a mod by oldflash that mods the appearance of the default 'saber hilts. Last night it was working just fine and tonight everything is a shade of blue. I know the hilts are still modded because when I got the camera 'close' the hilts were still in the modded shape and not just the usual tube of silver/white. I did a little playing around with my PC and I found that the proper texture reappeared when I had the camera facing my PC's face and tilted slightly toward my PC's right shoulder (for a 'saber in the offhand). Any other position and the hilt turned blue again. As an experiment, I downloaded Jorn's hilt mod and installed it to see what would happen. The hilts did not turn blue, but I immediately noticed that the texture vanished as soon as the camera was 'out of position' so to speak. The hilts went to the default silver color instead of blue. I honestly don't know what on earth in the update caused this reaction and I would appreciate the far more experienced modders giving me a bit of advice. I don't want to loose the texture modding if I don't have to, but at the moment I'm stumped. Honestly, I didn't even want this lousy update and I'd toss it out if I could, but I'm stuck unless I want to buy the game again and get it to play nice with my Win 7 installation. Thanks in advance for your advice and time.
  15. Okay, guess that one's on me...I'm used to Kreia getting her 'saber back since she did with USM and HOTOR. Thanks for clarifying that. Sorry to make more work for you EDIT:Jorn. Thanks for the replies to my question and all your hard work. And thanks for being patient with the nut behind my keyboard. EDIT: Sorry for getting your name wrong.
  16. Running into a bit of an issue with Kreia's lightsaber. Kreia got her lightsaber just fine, and it might have been a mod conflict, but for the life of me I can't get her lightsaber back on Citadel Station. Kreia's lightsaber vanished after Peragus and didn't show up in the Telos Security Lockers. I even tried talking to Kreia like a reviewer on SLM suggested and no dice. I'm going to try a reinstall and see if that fixes it, but since the lightsaber disappearing has happened before, I thought I'd bring it up here. I really like this mod and its prior incarnation in HOTOR, so you do great work Jorn and keep it up. One last little thing: I know that NPC Overhaul can work with SLM if Overhaul goes first, but it looks to me like both mods go into the module folder to make changes...if there's a way to make them a bit more compatible, that would be very cool. Once again, great work and thanks for the wonderful mod.
  17. A request if I may...your old HOTOR had a nice feature where it gave us updated looks to some of the party members and gave Atton (possibly others, but Atton for sure) a new icon for the his ribbed jacket. I tried to figure out how to put the new icon back in but I'm just not sure which files I need. If you could either add that to SLM or release that as a seperate mod, I for one would be very excited. Thanks for all your hard work. Minor question: I know this is TSLRCM 1.8.3 compatible...is it also TSLRCM 1.8.3B compatible? Other than my minor question and equally minor request...great mod so far. = )
  18. And that would be the utterly obvious thing I was missing...I was going to the cantina to do the yapping before ever getting near the Sith officer. Double confirmation with a male PC and Yun Genda. Thanks F-oh-ex...now let me go find a desk to pound my head against...noob fail on my part. *headdesk*
  19. That would explain things. I guess my assumption and confusion arose from two things. 1. Sarna and Yun Genda are specifically mentioned in the readme: "Sarna and Yun Genda are available to talk to members of the same sex and can be used to further the plot of Taris. Albeit, in different ways than they normally do." Now I assume the different ways refers to the way of 'skipping T3' that you ultimately decided against, but since my assumptions have obviously been wrong before, please correct me if I'm wrong (again). 2. In your post about what's restored in K1R, the Taris list includes: "[R] - Bribing Sarna or Yun Genda if you're a girl or guy, respectively. You have to pay them to get to the party with them to acquire a suit of Sith Armor." Again, that is why I assumed that I could bribe the same gender Sith and see a slightly different version of the party mission. Since Fair Strides just said that the bribe led to accidently skipping T3 and therefore was not restored, the two items in the readme and Restored post can led to some confusion, as it did for me. But that's just my personal two cents.
  20. I would like to try the bribe side of the 'Party' mission on Taris, instead of flirting with the opposite Sith gender, but I can't get the same gender Sith to talk beyond the first two or three responses. I've tried all the combinations and then they simply say something along the lines of "I probably shouldn't be talking to you anymore" and that's all I get. I even tried a fresh install and dropped the one mod of my list of mods that might affect the same modules that KotOR1 Resto uses. I'm 95% sure none of my other mods even touch any Taris dialogue outside of my group members. And yes, I'm installing the Restoration Mod first, just as instructed in the readme. Obviously I'm missing something and I'm probably going to look awfully foolish once I find out what but right now, I'm missing something and I don't have a clue what that something might be. *blush* So...yeah...any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help and thank you for your time.
