  1. You're forgetting the hilt is made of some kind of metal, which definitely does carry some sort of weight including the crystal inside. Maybe not as heavy as a general sword, but I don't see how it would be that disoreinting, and notice that Finn wasn't exactly good with the lightsaber anyway.

I am not forgetting that. I was talking about balance, not the total weight. Center of gravity is elsewhere, and that would definitely mean something to your muscles. But I guess it is beyond my skill in English to even try to explain what I mean, so I guess I'm out of this conversation.

  2. Where has it ever been said that a lightsaber is weightless? Please, tell me, because then Luke would not have been able to deflect those blaster bolts so easily on the Falcon in ANH since he had ZERO training prior by that logic that it requires training.

Where has it ever been said that lightsaber blades do have some significant weight? It's a beam of energy for crying out loud. Since when have lightbulbs became significantly heavier when they're switched on?

Not saying that a non-Force-user wouldn't be able to use a lightsaber, but you can't use training with a weapon that requires completely different muscle control for that. Logically, melee training would qualify you to the principles of (at least the basic) movements you need to do, but not to the fact how you need to control your body while doing it, if the balance of your weapon is not what you're used to.

  3. What I did was take the flowing cape model files and replace the BOS Revan model files with Sithspecter's edited version. This means that I couldn't get proper female animations or be able to remove my mask while wearing the robes, but it was a much better alternative to the cardboard cape.

I'd rather call it holoboard cape, given that your feet get through it without leaving a hole.

Sure, the cape and the hood would be one such a quick and easy fix. It would only require building two completely custom models holding the completely custom animations, then building four regular body models with weighting that matches the completely custom animating, and then some heavy .2da editing that in best case scenario would be incompatible with custom appearances without manual tweaking, and in worst case scenario wouldn't work at all.

If someone really would want to go through all that, they better release it as a separate mod(der's resource), not a part of any mod.

  4. That's interesting, I've never had KTool eating my newly-created columns, at least after the file has successfully been saved as 2da prior to opening it in KTool. Though I'd assume I have run that .xml route before, too, and it would have worked fine if the game would have liked adding columns to that specific 2da...

  5. I'd prefer the Excel addon, but unfortunately I don't have Excel anymore on my new system...

whether it works or not depends completely on what 2da file you're adding columns into. In the factions.2da, it works fine. In appearance.2da... not so much. Don't know about upcrystals, but considering that 99% of the lightsaber-related stuff in the game seems to be hard-coded, I would assume it wouldn't work... you can try, of course. There's no harm in that.

  6. Hrm, so it would appear. Thanks for the info. I don't recall that ever being required in the CD version. I wonder what they changed?

From what I've heard, included a typo'ed version of that line in the .ini. But for some odd reason that line seems to be causing much more weird (and conflicting) issues in the updated Steam version than in the older ones.

  7. This mod seems to introduce a glitch. Whenever you load into an area while holding a normal Lightsaber with Mantle of the Force, it is stuck in the out position until you flourish or go into combat.

If I read this correctly... Mantle of the Force saber not being in the out-position while not in use is what most of the people see as a glitch.

//Edit. So I clearly read it incorrectly. Carry on.

  8. I've had reports on both sides of the fence about the success of the installation, and there's literally only a few lines that were edited in the changes.ini.

Could be a Windows versus Delphi issue from what I know. I'd test with my both OS's, but I'm just too lazy for now (or fixated in hunting rogue TSF offcers). <_<

    What you could do is,

    1. Remove the installation of the mod

    2. Open the changes.ini

    3. Find the line that has the path that was mentioned in your error

    4. If there's \ marks in it, change them to be / marks (or vice versa)

    5. Save the file

    6. Run installer again

  9. Just so that you know, there is a difference between loaning story elements from another storyverse, and loanind story elements from the very same storyverse, writing-wise. You can't create a truly original story in this era anymore, no matter what. It's all done before. But it doesn't mean you need to repeat the very same events that are done in the very same series before.

(Though most of the SW movies are terrible as movies, anyway.)

  10. As far as Headfixer, it works by hex-editing specific spots in the binary model, spots whose position doesn't change between models. I'd need to ask VP what the new values are, but there is also the issue of finding out where the hex-edited info lines up in the ascii model/MDLOps' compiling process.

Short answer: Headfix is still needed, since right now trying to find where its binary data is in the ascii/compilation is not an easy thing.

It actually is not that difficult. You'd just need to tell MDLOps you're compiling a head model and not some other model. I run into this info once I went through the tree view while digging the guts of some head models. It's pretty simple.

Assuming HeadFixer does just the procedure that was described in the LF thread and not anything else.

  11. Except take into account that the last time this dish of potatoes was made in the movies was 30 years and 3 movies ago in the saga,  if we're going to include games then say 10 years ago. I don't count most of the EU comics because I never read those and thus they never really had much hold over me

But it does not mean that the people who really like EU couldn't have gone through it more than once in last 30 years, now does it?

  12. It's like ROTJ and Kotor are automatically immune to scrutiny because we loved them so much, but TFA is now subject to it because it "re-uses" a plot point that star wars has been re-hashing for years...

Well I wouldn't give them a free card, but keep in mind that people tend to be more forgiving to something they've grown used to when they were younger. And it is possible to enjoy the exactly same thing to a certain degree, but at some point, enough is enough. The way I see it, it's a lot like eating. You can eat 1-2 plates of smashed potatoes with no trouble, but trying to eat, say, 10-20 plates in a row...

From what I'm seeing, and forgive me if I'm wrong, but the moment you saw a superweapon, the majority of you who are complaining about it gut reacted.

It is perfectly possible to not like a certain aspect of the movie, and still like the rest. Saying "this movie has certain issues" does not necessarily mean "this is a bad movie".

My guess is she's a distant descendant of Bastila. :P

Now that you say it... she does look like Bastila.

  13. Considering there's literally nothing there, it would be hard to judge.

It would be fun to see a teaser with literally nothing - like, say, two minutes of perfectly white screen. Okay, I may be getting carried away... need to get some sleep.

I liked that Death Star faintly in the background. Very cool visual.

  14. Then I can understand your frustration, because for people to be criticizing TFA's usage of the superweapon is ridiculous when ROTJ did the same thing.

Frustration, no. That would require I would actually care, which I do not. (Of course, I've never been a very good SW fan to begin with. OT's writing makes me gackle oh so much at times.)

We live in the era of re-makes, and while it did rehash Episode 4 a bit, I think it brought enough new to the table to make it feel fresh

And being the era of re-makes is where most of the modern movies and games fail, in my opinion, but that's another subject entirely. I wouldn't call this one a re-make, though. The way I see it, "re-make" is "let's tell the same story with same characters again, just making it look cooler, or changing the setting slightly". It's not "let's tell the same story again, but with another characters and calling it a sequel". The latter one is just... a Hollywoodian sequel which, even though may feel lame for a storyteller, does make perfectly economical sense. As long as people buy something, it's worth being sold, right?

It doesn't mean everyone would like it, but as long as the majority likes it enough to go and see it in the theatre, it's filled its purpose.

  15. I don't get why you all are so angry at them re-using the superweapon again, because by that logic then ROTJ is automatically worse for it using a second Death Star. I was happy they modeled it somewhat off A New Hope because it's the start of something good for star wars.

Would it make you happier, if I would say that I, for one, was sick of it in RotJ, already? Not to mention a similar "a huge explosion of a big spherical thing" in TPM...

Superweapons can be cool, and big explosions in space battles can be cool, but they grow old when overused.
