    So it seems that a module's lighting is built with three completely separate pieces. Am I right?

      There are lightmaps that provide the majority of the lighting and shading, AuroraDLights which provide some module lighting as well as shadows for NPCs, placeables, etc, as well as AuroraLights which provide additional amounts of character lighting, and maybe more.
