About This File

THE UPDATE IS FOR STEAM USERS, PLAYING THE ASPYR VERSION IN 2K.

Title: Widescreen UI Fix for Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords

--------------------------------------------------

Special Thanks to the following individuals:

Alien - For the original version of the 16x9 mod, without which none of this would have happened.
tk102 - Since GFFEditor broke stuff and KGFF saved the day, teekay deserves some recognition for his awesome (TSL-friendly) tool.

As you can see, Alien's work is remarkable. Unfortunately, v.1 has some issues with the Actions UI in the lower left (mines and force form are borked, and the action description hovers over the menus rather than displaying above, making the arrows a pain to use).

After some digging around, I was able to fix these issues and am releasing the fix with Alien's permission.

*CD/DVD/GOG/Steam (Non-Aspyr) Installation Instructions*

  • Download the GOG version

What's New in Version 4.1   See changelog

Released

  • v4.1
  • Readded v3 as an download option for GOG users

  • v4.0
  • Support for 2k
  • Mostly left the main UI alone except to fix a bug with action bar description
  • Most of the extent of the new mod can be seen in the menus, where UI elements have been resized for consistency or to resolve skewing caused by upscaling from 800x600.

  • -New in 3.0
  • * For 1920x1080: The UI has been been completely re-written. Alien's original version with all fixes up to 2.02 is included in this download. Players with 16x9 should install either 3.0 or 2.02, but not both.
  • * For 1680x1050: Gameplay buttons have been consolidated (I really liked how this turned out in the new 16x9 version and applied the changes here as well). A bugfix has also been applied that resizes and relocates the level-up and debilitated decals for Char1 party member avatar.

  • -Fixes in v2.02
  • * Fixed issue where Item Lost indicator was placed in the same location as the Alignment Shift indicator. This fix is only recommended if you are using the 16x10 version of the mod.

  • -Fixes in v2.01
  • *Fixed issue where down arrow for the personal shield action button was placed in the same location as the up arrow. This fix is only recommended if you are using the 16x10 version of the mod.

  • -Fixes in v2.0
  • * Support for 16x10 resolution (optimized for 1680x1050)
  • * "bark bubble" will now appear when mini-map is disabled (both 16x9 and 16X10).

  • -Fixes in v1.54
  • * Resized NPC name and health bars to correct 16x9 dimensions.
  • * Resized all minimap elements to correct 16x9 dimensions.
  • * Applied all 1.1 and 1.4 fixes to "clean" download of Alien's original .gui file in order to resolve character portrait issue introduced in v.1.4 (caused by me monkeying around, trying to make it pretty for 16x10)

  • -Fixes in v1.4
  • * Bug that inaccurately displayed enemy health has been fixed.
  • * Buff decal for 3rd party member's avatar was set to the incorrect height and would not display
  • * Nav arrows for passive Jedi powers were not set to the same height as all other Action Buttons.

When I was running the game windowed at 1024x768 on my Widescreen monitor, everything was horribly stretched. This mod fixed it perfectly.

Unfortunately, my Icons are massive but I don't think there's much that can be done to fix that since I'm using a small resolution.

-And upon further inspection, my Character Portraits are still stretched.. Everything else works fine however, so It's not a huge deal, just something I want to note so users aren't mislead.

I'm on steam. Minimap isn't working and the words above the options are moved to the left. Any way to fix it?

EDIT:

Thanks, I didn't understand that at first. Now the main UI and the minimap work perfectly but the inventory is still stretched. Do you have any advice?

Response from the author:

Per the instructions above, if you aren't playing in 2k, then use the previous version (labelled GOG)

EDIT: regarding the question added by edit - the previous version of the mod only changed the main hud, not any of the other menus, so you'll get the default view for those (complete with the unfortunate skewing).

Updated version of the patch only partially worked for me.

1. While my menus (Inventory, Party, et c.) were fixed, my HUD (Minimap, icons in the top right corner of the screen, et c.) did not change at all.

2. Even for the menus that actually were changed (Inventory, Party, et c., this patch used a clearly incorrect resolution, affected menus aren't stretched on the X axis now, they became somewhat stretched on the Y axis (albeit not as drastically).

I didn't have 'equip_p.gui' anywhere in my game directory, I use Steam legacypc version of the game, my game resolution is 1366x768.

Thankfully, I still had the previous version of the patch on my PC that I happened to download one day ago. Others may not be so lucky.

Apologies for rating only 3 stars. It's a useful mod when it actually works, I used it myself numerous times already whenever I'm replaying KotOR 2, but I find it hard to rate a mod that doesn't function in the intended way anymore any higher. Unfortunatelly, it's not possible to post a review without issuing a rating.

Response from the author:

Update is for Steam users, playing the Aspyr version with a 2k resolution. I will change the first line of the page to make this even more explicit.

Anyone playing the GOG version of the game or playing in 1080 should stick with what they have. I'm assuming people playing in 4k should be good with the 1080 version as well (it scales right?)
