About This File
Expands the mechanics of training your Jedi companions in TSLRCM.
SUMMARY
TSLRCM adds the ability to teach your Jedi party members a select few powers, feats, and forms. It’s a cool concept that adds to the feeling of training your companions, but it was never very fleshed out. As is, there’s a very limited pool of abilities to teach, no real player choice in what to teach, and no depiction of the training aside from a fade to black. This isn’t a fault of the TSLRCM team, there just wasn’t much to restore.
The mod aims to expand the whole training mechanic to make it more interesting and immersive.
Summary of the main changes of this mod:
- You can now choose which abilities to teach your companions.
- The pool of teachable powers, feats and forms has been significantly expanded.
- Every teachable ability now includes a brief cutscene depicting the training.
- Party members can learn 1 power or feat and 1 form at a time and must level up before learning more.
- Different prestige classes can teach different abilities. JM/SL can teach a wider selection of powers, JWM/SM can teach more combat feats, and JW/SA can teach a mix of both.
- Handmaiden and Disciple can now be trained like other Jedi companions.
DETAILS
More Teachable Abilities
In TSLRCM, party members can learn a small number of powers, feats, and forms, which are mostly just those that can’t be learned by normal means such as Force Sight and Beast Trick.
This mod significantly expands the number of teachable abilities. Teachable Force powers now include almost all basic tier powers that are not class-restricted (e.g. Heal, Push, Shock, etc.). Teachable feats now include many combat-related feats, such as Dueling, Advanced Jedi Defense, and active feats like Power Attack. With a few exceptions, teachable abilities are mostly limited to the lowest level abilities in the feat/power tree. This is partly because of balance or something but mostly because of the time it would take to implement so many more abilities. Maybe in a future update.
You can now teach any of the forms you know, including those granted to Jedi classes such as Makashi and Force Channel. Normally these forms are granted at Jedi levels 11-14 but I’m willing to bet most players don’t get their Jedi companions this high until pretty late in the game if at all unless they intentionally save levels, meaning party members often never learn these forms. And it doesn’t really make sense that you can teach your companions advanced forms when you can’t even teach Form I. Now you can teach them the basic forms early enough for them to actually get to use them.
Force Affinity has been removed from the list of teachable forms. Despite its description, Force Channel actually has the same effect while also having other positive effects and no drawbacks, making Affinity pointless to use if you know Channel, which is granted to all Jedi classes.
While many new abilities are now potentially teachable, what you can ultimately teach depends on what you know, your class, and the specific party member.
Rules and Prerequisites
Party members can learn 1 form and either 1 power or feat at a time, then must level up again before learning more.
For most feats and powers, you need to know the improved version, if available, in order to teach the basic version. For example, in order to teach Dueling, you must know Improved Dueling.
Available trainings also depend on your class. Regular Jedi classes can teach a select number of powers and feats, such as Push, Speed, Stun, Slow, Dueling, Two-Weapon Fighting, and unique powers like Force Sight. Other abilities are locked to different prestige classes. Jedi Masters & Sith Lords can teach all basic Universal powers and all basic Light or Dark Side powers, respectively. Jedi Weapon Masters & Sith Marauders can teach a wider selection of combat feats, while Jedi Watchmen & Sith Assassins can teach a mix of different feats and powers. Jedi Masters & Sith Lords have an advantage in the total number of abilities they can teach, which I think fits their theme well, and they are in need of an advantage anyway. All party members have some feats and powers they can learn from you regardless of your class.
Naturally the advanced forms can already only be taught by certain classes since they can only be learned by certain classes. Additionally, now party members must know Shii-Cho (either through normal means or by training) before learning any other lightsaber forms, and must know Force Channel before learning any other Force forms. Some advanced saber forms can only be taught after the party member has learned 2 other saber forms, and Juyo can only be taught after they have learned 3 saber forms. Force Mastery can only be taught after learning 2 other Force forms.
Teachable powers are subject to the same character level requirements, and some powers also require the party member to have a certain Jedi class level.
The PC and party member must both have a lightsaber in order to teach any saber-related ability or form.
Immersive Training Depictions
In TSLRCM, teaching your companion is basically just clicking a button followed by a fade to black and a notification that the party member learned whatever predetermined ability. With this mod, you’ll now get to choose what to teach through dialogue and get a short cutscene depicting the training. This may be the PC and party member sparring, meditating, practicing casting powers, etc. Nothing super in-depth but something to make the sequence more immersive and feel like an actual training session.
Train Disciple and Handmaiden
For whatever reason, Disciple and Handmaiden could not be taught anything originally. This mod makes it so they can now be taught just like other party members. While other other party members have at least of a couple of lines where they acknowledge being taught, Disciple and Handmaiden never had anything recorded to my knowledge, and since I couldn’t find any generic lines appropriate to reuse and don’t have experience creating new VO or lip syncing, I’ve just kept them silent for now. There’s not much missing since most party members only have a couple of short generic lines anyway, but I’ll see about adding new dialogue in a future update.

COMPATIBILITY
Incompatible with any mods that hard overwrite the dlg files for Atton, Bao-Dur, Disciple, Handmaiden, Mira, or Visas.
Compatible with PartySwap by Darth Tyren & Leilukin using the included compatibility patch.
Compatible with Visas Marr and Female Exile Romance by Leilukin.
The following mods appear compatible but have not been extensively tested:
Handmaiden and Female Exile - Disciple and Male Exile Romance by Leilukin
Atton Rand and Male Exile Romance by Leilukin
Not compatible with Mira Romance Mod by JediArchivist.
Soft conflict with Train the Handmaiden by jc2 as this mod also allows training Handmaiden.
BUGS
Minor bug where Handmaiden doesn’t restart her idle animation after learning Burst of Speed, for some reason. Talking to her fixes it.
No other bugs that I’m aware of. Please report any.
PERMISSIONS
You are free to use and edit this mod’s dlg files if needed to make a compatibility patch for another mod. However, please ask permission before reuploading or modifying the files for any other reason. Do not reupload any files from the PartySwap patch without permission from the author.
