About This File

** Improved K1 dialog.tlk compiled by KnifeMaster, with huge contributions from Gimmick5000, Salk, Kainzorus Prime and DarthParametric **

This mod attempts to fix all known typos, subtitle mismatches, bad punctuation and other grammatical sloppiness found in the first KotOR game. I'd like to give a huge thanks to Gimmick5000 for discovering the overwhelming majority of these issues while working on his "eXtensive Dialog Overhaul" mod, and Fair Strides for his TLK>TXT tool. Gimmick's "eXtensive" project aims to replace a lot of player responses, though, while this one keeps those as is... sort of. Kainzorus Prime was kind enough to let me use his "PC Response Moderation" as the basis for this mod, which is a massive improvement over Bioware's player responses. If you're interested in Gimmick's dialog overhaul, be sure to follow it here:

https://deadlystream.com/topic/7022-extensive-dialog-overhaul-beta-for-kotor-103/

Quite a few corrections were also made by Salk, DarthParametric, ebmar and myself, but unfortunately I don't have a complete list of fixes. Most of the issues are listed in Gimmick's thread, and a few more can be found here:

https://github.com/KOTORCommunityPatches/K1_Community_Patch/issues/148

I'm sure there are still errors out there, but hundreds upon hundreds, if not thousands have been fixed. To install, simply replace the stock dialog.tlk file in your "swkotor" folder with this one. I highly recommend using this mod on a clean install of the game. And, of course, INSTALL THIS BEFORE any other mods that alter KotOR's dialog.tlk. It should be compatible with K1R, but you must install K1R afterwards.

So, in summary: lots of typos and subtitle mismatches fixed, no more double, triple or quadruple (yes really) exclamation or question marks, dashes ( - ) used less liberally and a few awful run-on sentences have been reworked. Enjoy, and feel free to report any issues on the download page.

I'm posting this same comment on "PC Response Moderation" and "[K1] Improved dialog.tlk 1.0" as it relates to both. Really nice work done here and there and can't decide which one is best.

I did found the occasional mismatch, like some word on VO but not in subtitle, or vice-versa. Random example: someone says "That's a very good thing" but the subtitle reads "That's a good thing", but those instances are so few and far between and just adjectives that I did not make a note of it.

Still, there's just one (and only that one) line of dialogue that I can't get over:

When leaving the Tatooine swoop track after becoming champion, a twilek asks the player for an autoprint. In the vanilla game the 1st reply option is "What? My autoprint? Are you serious?", to what the fan replies "Sure I am. (...)". Now in this modifications the player just says "My autoprint?", to which the twilek still replies "Sure I am."

So, for a more fluid conversation the player should ask "My autoprint? Are you serious?" or the phrase "Sure I am." removed from the fan response subtitle.

If you ever consider an update, please correct this. 🙏

Thank you for pointing these out! There are a few other examples that come to mind of this same issue. When you save Bastilla on Taris there is an instance where you declare that you could handle the Black Vulkars on you own and Bastilla replies "Yes, I'm sure you can". I think the player response originally was along the lines of "I can take care of myself". That makes more sense. Another example that comes to mind is when you tell your party to step back when HK-47 starts to remember his past. His response is "that wont be necessary" but the new dialogue doesn't make HK-47's response as fluid. These would help make any update you are considering even better!

First time I've used an edited .tlk file before installing other mods. Even made some changes myself to make Revan sound like they have more than 80 IQ!

Unfortunately, I've come across some bugs I've never encountered before in the form of 'Dwindling Supplies' not triggering when I investigate the emergency food stores and now even 'A Quest For The Star Forge' has not updated on Manaan when I gained a fourth Star Map so the Leviathan capture hasn't triggered either. Meaning I'm free to fly to Korriban without the Hawk being hooked. Hopefully this is something I can fix with the save editor...
