Blog #73 - Mod Request (Battle of Khoonda videos)

I'm not promoting this on my Status Update this morning as I don't want to divert folks from my assistance to my other blog post where I've trying to get folks to assist a movie maker. In this instance, this request is coming straight from me.

Yes, I know I've asked about requesting folks to remake videos elsewhere. This is a narrower field of vision - and doesn't have to do with dealing with either landing or take-off videos.

I'd like the following videos remade by the talented modders here, recorded and exported in (at the minimum) 1080p resolution.

(The remaining four videos will follow due to video post limits.)

For the soldiers and attackers, please reuse the same armor types. Switch up the heads if you want if you don't want them to all look like clones. Use whatever skybox and environment texture mods you wish or keep them the same if you want. Keep the same music and sound effects. The object is to have clearer videos than what we have currently and not to entirely remake them.

Upload them here and wherever else you want so people can use them.

You may have seen that DarthVarkor has already redone the Kreia's Fall video - probably to me being annoying. JCarter426 redid the TSL Opening Credits in French mostly due to me paying for it - and I don't even speak French! (Thanks to them both for their awesome efforts.)

Tell me what you need to make this happen.

If you are keen to pitch in SH, I'd suggest there are far more useful contributions you could make in an administrative capacity.

I have no experience in working with models so therefore running admin on subjects I'm not well versed would seem doomed to failure. However, I might be able to pony up a few bucks to make this happen. I'm not a rich man so don't go into this expecting a fortune here, folks.

PS: If you stop by the thread, please leave a comment - even if it's just to say that you can't do it but appreciate the idea. I'd like to know that I'm not just howling out in to the void.

Try warping to 603DAN. It's a spawns you in a Khoonda Plains clone module with a testing computer in front of the player where it essentially plays what happens in the BIK movies in the actual game. That'd be where most people would want to start.

Interesting. Might take a look at this.

Side note (haven't had time to check out N-DReW25's suggestion yet): Does anyone know if these clone modules exist for any other modules in the game with the same ability to play certain cutscenes ?

Though I'll probably still need the "Big Battle of Khoonda" video, I'll probably be able to use the console from N-DReW25's suggestion.  (Thanks N-DReW25.)

Let's see how this turns out!

I think I have it all set up.  I've recorded the footage without music, fiddled around with the sound levels, re-added the music, and made them into MP4 movies.  Then I Binked them.

Is this better than what we had?

HH: You seem to be saying that TSLRCM renders the videos using the in game engine.  Does TSLRCM implements fades for those scenes and implement the cryo grenades though.  It's obviously been a long time since I've played the game all the way through so seeing some video footage that explains how I wasted my time would be helpful.

In TSLRCM the battle goes a lot differently than vanilla. For instance, most of your choices in preparation have an effect on the battle, unlike the bik. The battle in TSLRCM still has its flaws though, The Militia isn't so bad though. I just before the battle you can set squads inside, in front and behind Khoonda and they all work ok but it's the mercs that are flawed.  For instance, when the Mercs rush across the bridge half the time they can glitch out and just stand idle on the bridge or even run through the river at times. The Mercs who do rush the bridge look like the ones in the Bik (Player Heads with Mask and rifles) but the Mercs you fight in the battle are Asian and Black Commoners with rifles and Double Bladed Vibroswords without masks.

I do not feel this is a total waste of time: If DarthVarkor wants to make a special edition of his first movie perhaps he could edit the movie with scenes from TSLRCM and from the bik console.

For the record, I don't speak French either.

And that definitely was better than what we had. It's just the Bink videos weren't a very good way to show the battle from the start, which is why TSLRCM didn't use them...

I recall somebody (probably Avellone, but I don't recall for certain) specifically blaming the Xbox for those videos. It just couldn't handle a battle of such scale - particularly in that area, I suspect, as it already has lag issues. I think the movie terminal in 603 was only in there because they had to replace the battle with those videos at the last minute and decided to leave it in there.
