DAFFYDAFFY 7 Posted January 23, 2014 I noticed a number of files that are 0kb in my override folder: 33 files : 003pcdead2001.lip up to 003pcdead2033.lip also these ones: 012ebocam.mdx 801drocam.mdx 802kaah.mdx 804rec.mdx 804research.mdx 804secrec.mdx 804tester.mdx 805m478.mdx 806kaah.mdx 904malcam.mdx 852852nih012.lip and 9 files gblkreia459.lip up to gblkreia469.lip ========================================= Are they supposed be 0kb? Or is it a botched patcher (though surely it would have come upas an error on installing)

Hassat Hunter 571 Posted January 24, 2014 .mdx files are for .mdl files. You need both or the game crashes, but are indeed empty. The .lips are empty to overwrite lipsync happening in cases where people's minds are being read, and no lipsync should be present. So yes, they're all fine... Reaper 0 Posted January 24, 2014 Not crashing the game... I have not modded 'KotOR II' for a really long time.

HK-47 84 Posted February 4, 2014 .mdx files are for .mdl files. You need both or the game crashes, but are indeed empty. The .lips are empty to overwrite lipsync happening in cases where people's minds are being read, and no lipsync should be present. So yes, they're all fine... Statement: I was unaware that that is how the .lips works for "mind reading" sequences. Query: So then what is the purpose of the .mdx and .mdl files being empty? Malkior 476 Posted February 4, 2014 Just the .mdx is empty. The .mdl is the model file itself. You need the .mdx with the .mdl for them to work.
zbyl2 811 Posted February 4, 2014 Query: So then what is the purpose of the .mdx and .mdl files being empty? Basically, all the information on animated cameras in KOTOR games are stored inside .mdl file. However, game requires MDX be present for every MDL file or the game will crash. Regular models use both, animated cameras only read data from one but still require both to be present to run properly in game. What are the advantages of not putting those in a .mod file? Or, why would you not want to put them in a .mod file? We could put them in .mod files. In fact I think some of M4-78's animated cameras are stored inside 80*DRO.mods. Most of them are in override though as I'm used to putting mdls in there, and it's less likely to cause issues if you were to use the same animation in two different modules. LiliArch 115 Posted February 4, 2014 Sounds reasonable to put them in Override, if they are used in more than one module... that way you need only one file, instead of having multiple copies of it in different .mod files. Saves disc space (unless .mod compresses its files somehow, I don't know about that). Not that 0kb files would take much disc space anyway...
DAFFYDAFFY 7 Posted February 6, 2014 Just the .mdx is empty. The .mdl is the model file itself. You need the .mdx with the .mdl for them to work. yeh, just the mdx are 0kb and a few 0kb lip files.
Hassat Hunter 571 Posted February 6, 2014 Statement: I was unaware that that is how the .lips works for "mind reading" sequences. They're not supposed to. But an overzealous OE employee gave them (and the warning on Peragus) lipsync files. So this will overwrite them, since physically deleting them is... more complicated (not to mention you don't really want that).
