Motorolus 0 Posted June 16, 2014 After installing 1.8.3, the game (KOTOR collection version) became very slow. The main menu takes a while just to appear and the cursor is extremely slow to respond. If I go to the options menu, the game suddenly runs much smoother, but it takes forever to load the character creation menu and things don't improve from there. I had a fresh installation of the game before adding TSLRCM and then reinstalled KOTOR2 and tried again with no change. The only other mod I had installed was the most recent version of M4-78EP, and uninstalling that doesn't fix the problem. I've tried lowering the graphics settings and resolution, but that only made a marginal improvement. My laptop isn't exactly ideal for gaming, so I fear that might be the problem, but it's good enough to run the vanilla game on medium settings without too many problems. Relevant specs: Windows Vista Mobile AMD Sempron 3600+, 2 Ghz, single core 2 gigs of RAM ATI Radeon Express 1150 Is there anything I can do? Edit: Forgot to mention that using windowed mode makes absolutely no difference.
VarsityPuppet 1,085 Posted June 16, 2014 Hmmm, off the bat, the 2GBs of RAM is not a great start... So does the main game ever load?
Hassat Hunter 571 Posted June 16, 2014 Probably the smoke... Add DisableVertexBufferObjects=1 to the proper place in the .ini and it should be resolved...
MrPhil 58 Posted June 16, 2014 Laptops are my bane. I bought one with an independent graphic card and TSL is still having trouble with metallic shader... That'S probably your problem. Any graphic card that has Express in its name probably wont cut-it...
Markus Ramikin 107 Posted June 16, 2014 Trouble getting past the main menu I told them the main menu needed a nerf. Either give it lower stats, or lower the weapon damage. DisableVertexBufferObjects=1 Yeah, I'd definitely try that. I've had Kotor 2 on 4 computers by now and on each one I had to add that change to the .ini before the game worked right. Any graphic card that has Express in its name probably wont cut-it... Hmm... I remember I was able to get both Kotor and TSL to run on my old laptop, which had both Windows Vista and a fairly similar, if not even worse, hardware setup. Anyway, maybe you need to lower your graphics settings, or just completely disable certain things, like others said. Hassat was probably right to assume that the the smoke is probably playing havok with your laptop.

If it is some issue with the graphics card, I'm wondering what problem the mod is causing that the vanilla game doesn't. Could it be worth trying an earlier version of the mod? Motorolus 0 Posted June 18, 2014 The loading screens take forever to get through, but the game actually runs fine once the loading is done. I can see that some people have had the same problem, but I haven't found any solutions.
Traveller 5 Posted June 18, 2014 How about providing a list, using msconfig.msc, of everything that starts when the laptop boots. I'm willing to bet that you have things running that you don't need, which not only steals RAM, but CPU cycles as well. I'm assuming you've attempted to run at low graphics settings and are still having the issue, so if you don't have crap running at boot, about the only thing left is the processor. I'm not sure about your model of Sempron, but in general the Sempron processor is a dual-core processor with access to one core disabled by AMD before shipping. Using software specifically for the purpose and assuming your Sempron is one that can benefit from the software, it's possible to turn on the second core, which will improve performance. The net effect is to turn the Sempron into an Athlon processor.
Motorolus 0 Posted June 18, 2014 That's an interesting idea, but I can't find any software that supports the processor. And this is a Dell Inspiron, so I'm locked out of accessing those options in the BIOS. Update: Huh... I started removing files in the override folder one by one to see if any in particular was the problem. Deleting KOTOR2Logo.tga got the game running normally. The version number no longer appears on the main menu, but Kreia mentions the Ebon Hawk by name and there's a vibrocutter on one of the first corpses. Seems like the issue's resolved. I never expected removing the logo texture of all things would have solved the problem. XD
