VarsityPuppet 1,085 Posted December 8, 2015 Star Wars Episode VII is about a week away, and I'm sure you've encountered some sort of Star Wars content in the past few months. On one hand, it's nice to see so much attention on a beloved franchise once again. People seem far more excited for this than Episode III, though again that was 10 years ago and I don't remember much from then. Anyways, not all of this attention is good. I've seen some really cringe-worthy and poorly informed content recently. It's inevitable as everyone is trying to cash in, but I'm wondering... What terrible Star Wars content have you seen recently? Here's my submissions: Under Cringe-Worthy: Reasons:- Wasted opportunity to use "Aren't you a little short for a Storm Trooper?" - Kids in disguise as Storm Troopers trying to fool Storm Troopers? Under Poorly Informed: Biggest Star Wars Facts That Even Fans Get WrongReasons:- Pretty much only casual fans would get any of these wrong Star Wars 7 Will Not Have a Post-Credits SceneReasons:- There is no precedent for post-credits scenes for Star Wars films. TheDarkChocolateJedi 17 Posted December 8, 2015 The moment when you see a cute but cringe worthy drawing/joke of christmas star wars theme It was on Facebook, and has a picture of star wars characters singing christmas carols and yoda is saying "Merry christmas we wish you, merry christmas we wish you" And then it has a caption at the bottom of the picture saying "No one likes caroling with yoda" Edit:I tried to find a link to it, but it will not work for some reason, i suggest you just google it. Eauxps I. Fourgott 81 Posted December 8, 2015 Biggest Star Wars Facts That Even Fans Get Wrong Reasons: - Pretty much only casual fans would get any of these wrong And honestly, the part about the quotes is just overly particular, at least to me. What difference do a couple of word choices really make? I haven't seen or noticed much in particular, myself.
Fair Strides 509 Posted December 8, 2015 My biggest gripe honestly isn't about dumb content so much as all the content... It annoys and irritates me to no end the massive hype-train Disney has set up with all the Ep. 7 articles and merchandise. I've purposely avoided all but two trailers and most of the Ep 7 threads on here, but there is no way to avoid seeing all the merchandise at the stores. Why the heck would you go out and buy all the merchandise to a character or movie you know nothing about before the movie is even out to be watched, when you haven't even seen the movie or know whether you'll even like the character/movie in question? That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of, no matter how you try to rationalize it...

I'd expect people to grow brains, read Thomas Paine's "Common Sense", and learn that the commercials always lie... Then again, I've been expecting that for at least the past decade... Then again, I've been expecting that for at least the past decade... You might want to change those expectations. I don't buy into all the hype, ads, etc. for anything, but I'm quite aware that the majority of people do.

But... but... the hype train is so glorious... it is the core of what us fans have left in our self-esteem... Nah jk. For reals though, they do it because they are hyped for a movie, and i am hyped for it, even if i've yet to buy a single piece of merchandise, or even be interested in a single piece of episode 7 merchandise. I was obsessed with dragon ball z (Still am) And i'd do things like that all the time when i was or am hyped for something dbz related, just go out and buy dbz action figures and trading cards, and annoy my family from talking so much about it at the dinner table. Everybody, come on! Come ride the hype train with me!
Malkior 476 Posted December 9, 2015 I personally am no fan of how Disney is using the old films' characters to sell a movie that is so unrecognizable. For instance, Yoda, Vader, Luke, and Boba are the highest exposed characters in this ad campaign and effectively none of them are in Episode VII. This is like marketing The Phantom Menace with toys of Luke and Leia or Han. It has no gumption to try marketing a severe divergence of a film, so the only way to market it was removing any story they can't use (the EU ), and using what was left (IE, the good films) to convince people to like their artistic direction. It's borderline criminal, but they are technically within their rights to do it, since they destroyed anything that they couldn't own... Gonna be honest, I never saw it coming.... :/
VarsityPuppet 1,085 Posted December 9, 2015 I don't have a problem with the hype train, necessarily, just certain aspects. I realize that not everything is going to actually appeal to me, specifically, nor is it designed to.
