chaosstorm88 0 Posted June 9, 2015 I have never played this before, and my skills with a PC are... lacking. I have Windows 7, am playing a physical copy of the game from the Collection edition. The game crashes every time I try to leave a planet. I somehow made it off Taris (not sure how). I have seen so many "fixes" on the boards that I have no idea what to actually do to solve the problems. In addition, approximately %75 of the time I start the game, it crashes before getting to the Main Menu. Can anyone give me a hand please? I like this game very much, and don't want to have to quit because of technical issues.

You'll need to watch them on Youtube to be able to catch up on it...
Kexikus 994 Posted June 9, 2015 First, the crashes during startup can be fixed by deleting or renaming (I highly recommend the latter) biologo.bik, leclogo.bik and legal.bik in the "movies" folder in the main KotOR directory. That might not even be necessary after the second fix but it makes the game start faster, so I'd still do that^^ Now to the crashes when leaving a planet. I assume that the game minimizes when watching prerendered cutscenes and you can't maximize it, as that's quite a common issue I think. If that's not the case, you can still try the following but I don't think it'll work as it's a fix for cutscene crash issues. What you have to do is rightclick swkotor.exe in the main KotOR folder, select "Properties" and go to the "Compability" tab. There you'll have to check "Disable visual themes", "Disable desktop compositions" and "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings". Doing that disables some Windows designs while playing but fixed all of my issues with cutscenes. I don't know if you actually have to check all three of those or if one is enough, but I was too lazy to test it^^ If that does not work, you can try and disable cutscenes somewhere in the ingame options menu. That'd really suck though as they enhance the story quite a bit but you could always watch them on youtube if everything else fails. Edit: Seems like Fair Strides was faster^^ But I'd still recommend trying what I described above before disabling the movies completely.

chaosstorm88 0 Posted June 15, 2015 Sorry for not replying sooner, been a busy week. Kexikus, your advice worked beautifully. Thank you to you and Fair Strides both for your help! um, if you don't mind one more question, Am I likely to have similar issues when I play KotOR 2? and will the same steps work? chaosstorm88 0 Posted June 18, 2015 And a new problem has arisen. While playing KotOR 2, when I attempt to use the camera, the keys I have them mapped to will not respond. I do not know what prompted the sudden failure, as they simply stopped working while I was playing. I have attempted reloading and using an older save, but neither has worked, and my searches online have been fruitless. Does anyone know what may have caused this, and/or what I could do to fix it?
