  1. I don't know how things are in other modding communities, but even as far back as Lucasforums, we had a general good faith policy of communicating with the mod authors. A form of common courtesy to reach out and check in with them. This allowed for open communication, everyone being aware (as they could be) of what was going on, and even assisting in refining the work or helping to avoid pitfalls. And that was a wonderful system.

The point was the common courtesy and being able to have evidence of a good-faith attempt to update the mod author on things. Even with KotOR's Filefront died, we as staff discussed and agreed on a process using the community's historical precedent of good-faith contacts. We checked each author's permissions and when necessary, we reached out to those authors through any channels we had. Then we waited a respectable time for a response (I can't recall how long that time was, but I believe it was at least a month). This was well-received by many, and a key point was that we reached out before we went and did a thing.

Now, I realize that was years ago and cultural norms shift, especially online, but this has usually never been an issue in this community. I can well understand SH's response to getting told about `proper modding etiquette`; SH has been a stable pillar when it comes to that very concept for well over a decade. The seeming lack of perspective to realize that is surprising. I don't know if the person frequents NexusMods more than here, or how knew they might be, but I foresee this problem could come up more and more over time with the sheer size of an outlet like NexusMods.

Haha, thanks! I still have no idea where you came up with this image, but it's fucking beautiful. Hell, can I borrow it as the cover photo on FB?

Thanks so much for sharing and wishing you the best on your journey and living your best life.

You're welcome. The reactions have been nice so far; a few years ago... I wouldn't have expected people to be so understanding. Part of that phenomenon where you expect others to think like you do, I guess. And back then? I was ignorant.

Glad to see you back my friend! :)

You! You're still around?! Yes!!! :D You volunteered me into a chaotic mess, ya know that? :P (K1R)

I still need to try out your Crashed Republic Cruiser mod. I'm glad it saw the light of day, man.

  3. I'd like to learn about scripted cutscenes, meaning scripted fights etc.

Scripted fighting I'll have to do my homework on, but anything else cutscene-wise (like movement, sequence of actions, .etc) are good to go. I'm not saying I won't go over, I'll just need to do my own homework on it. :)

What interests me is to spawn containers into an area, so people can find my created items.

I know the basics, but I'dd like to see more ways on doing it. So far I've only used dialogues.

I'd like to know any other posibilties of firing a script that doesn't break anybody elses game or the script not firing... :-s

Mainly so it's compatible with most of the other mods out there.

Yes, getting their grubby hands on your beautiful stuff is doable. :D

Compatibility is always an Achille's Heel, but I'm sure I can help you out.

  4. Well, for me, what makes a mod really successful is the quality/execution.

When I say that, I don't necessarily mean the purpose or idea behind it, but how well that idea is carried out. For example, if you make a quest in a mod:

    • How good is the dialog (Any spelling issues, accurate punctuation, odd or "unusual" (not generally known by the masses) grammar, phrases in the wrong order?)
    • Is the quest structured in a realistic or detailed way? (Is it too long, are the goals not really connected, are you crossing lots of areas just to grab one little piece?)
    • Are the characters well thought out? (Backgrounds of a suitable length for their role or whether they are minor/major characters, any oddities related to the character executed well [such as a slight slurring of certain sounds, or a favored tone of voice])

Or if your mod is more for texturing for instance:

    • Do your textures "mesh" well? (Can you tell where the seams are, do the textures tile well?)
    • Do the textures for the area (if doing a module) all fit together well, or are they somewhat jarring where they're placed?
    • What sort of feel do you want in the textures, and do others get that same feeling when looking at them?
