It always amused me that the 'audience' of the arena was essentially a bunch of stand-up cardboard cutouts (including multiple copies of Rakata, Carth, and Bastila, among others).

Too bad I can only give this one thumbs up :)

If I may ask, what makes this mod incompatible with K1R?

I would highly recommend getting into contact with LordDeathRay to see if you could incorporate some of his KOTOR Improvement mod into your patch (https://www.nexusmods.com/kotor/mods/562).

It seems to cover a few of the bugs that you mention: (namely Shaardan with a sword, Czerka employees on Korriban). 

I like this reskin for two reasons (beyond the fact it is an excellent reskin):

1)  Calo Nord has not been reskinned that much (to my knowledge). 

2)  The reskin strikes a good balance between "I am a ruthless bounty hunter" Calo Nord, and "I am an arrogant braggart who died like a wuss" Calo Nord

Xcom did something like this for TSL, and I'm glad someone did this for KOTOR 1. 

I'll try this out on my next playthrough.
