How can you be sure, especially if you're getting that error? Do you have the original CD version of the game, the Steam version, or the Collection DVD? The latter two won't need to be updated. If it's the original CD version, however, you'll need to update it. The US version only requires the 1.0b patch, specifically for the US version. Other nationalities will need the 1.0a patch first, then 1.0b. I think there is a UK version of these two patches, and another version for all of the others.

There's definitely a widescreen hack out there, but we can't openly discuss it here anymore. Try the Widescreen Gaming Forum. As for the high-quality music/movies patches, the music is worth getting, but you're better off sticking with the regular movies for now.

I'm not talking about Visas/Nihilus, nor any of the in-game cutscenes that don't require playing a Bink movie. Those run smooth as glass, look terrific and are definitely preferable. The ones that have to switch back and forth between engine and Bink are another story entirely.

Thanks, SH. Of course, I would need zbyl2's permission since it uses his module. It's still a WIP, anyway. I wasn't even aware that an in-game cutscene version of the Kreia's Fall movie was being worked on. If it can be done entirely in-game, that would be great, though I think that Jinger's movie is a sufficient fix. All I want to do is avoid the multiple resolution changes with the Sion's arrival at Peragus and the shuttle to Telos scenes.

I could email the file to anyone who's interested so you can judge it for yourselves. Just put it in your movies folder after renaming the original and you can play it in-game.

Any way I can upload it here? The 640x272 version is 35MB. You can play it with Media Player Classic in fullscreen mode, but you'll get the best effect by playing it in-game. The 1600x680 version is 70MB and would look really good if the damned engine would scale it correctly, which is an inherent problem with all of the high-quality movies. I just see it as building on what zbyl2 has already done.

Sadly, that can't be helped. I recorded the in-game cutscene at 1600x900 so it would be the same resolution as the movies in the high-quality movie patch, and it looks quite good. Not in my movie, it didn't. Granted, something like the Kreia's Fall movie would be longer and more difficult to match up, but it can be done using VirtualDub and Audacity. Well, for one thing, it doesn't "flow" very well. The resolution changes take forever and part of the music is cut off. Secondly, one of the biggest gripes about TSLRCM that I've heard from people on other forums is how the multiple resolution changes can make the game minimize or even crash. The shuttle to Telos cutscenes are particularly bad in this regard. It's happened to me enough that I thought that doing something to keep those resolution changes to a minimum was a good idea. I'm not asking for this to be part of the mod, but it is likely the only solution to what I think is a glaring problem.

Why not just record the in-game cutscene using something like FRAPS or Taksi and make a new Bink movie out of it using the original audio track? I did exactly that with the improved Sion's arrival at Peragus at it worked beautifully, IMO. While not as pretty as the in-game cutscene, it still looks vastly better than the original Bink movie files - even when scaled up from 640x272. It also avoids most of those pesky resolution changes that can make the game minimize or even CTD, and you can use the original audio track. If you want to see what I'm talking about, I'd be happy to upload the Sion's arrival movie that I've been working on. It's not perfect yet, but it's getting close.

I'm all for it. Compared to your suggestion?

I tried it, too, but all I tried to do was eyeball it and couldn't tell whether my PC was moving faster or if it was just the placebo effect.

That's good to know, Ferc. Thanks. I've been wondering about this, myself, since I've been temped to take advantage of the uber-cheap upgrade to Windows 8 Pro that MS is offering thru January.

Oh, OK. I was confused there for a minute. Yeah, I don't swoop race much either. In fact, I probably wouldn't have known that the Carbon fixed .exe wasn't really patched if it hadn't been pointed out to me by Achilles. Being able to tell if an .exe is patched or not is actually pretty simple. With an unpatched .exe, party NPCs will sound off every time they use security (and maybe demolitions). With a patched .exe they don't talk nearly as often. That was probably the most obvious change made by the 1.0b patch.

The dark jedi conversion mod modifies the Trayus academy modules.

While I've always thought that fixing this would make a good mod, it's probably beyond the scope of this project.
-
But does it work on a fully patched game?
-
Sounds great! I'm certainly looking forward to it.
-
Did you reinstall the mod after doing those 2 steps? TSLRCM won't install correctly if the read-only property is not remove from the game folder and its contents.

Squizzy's patcher has always required a no-cd. That's why it always came bundled with one.
-
You have to get the right file for it to work. Can't go into detail too much here.
-
I also got it to run on an Intel GPU today. I could never get the Carbon version to run on it, but this one works just fine.

Holy crap! A new solution to this problem has, um, presented itself since the introduction of the KotOR Collection on DVD. Use UniWS and not the Squizzy patcher. I think you all can figure it out from there. And yes, it works on a patched installation from the original CDs, so I'm playing TSL in widescreen at native resolution again. W00t!
