A KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC II: (THE SITH LORDS) MODIFICATION
======================================================

FILE SIZE: 4 KB
DATE RELEASED: 3/30/2007, revised 31. May 2016

DESCRIPTION:
If you try to rebalance your modded Kotor games, this really comes in handy. Boss too strong? Crazy rebalance? Change your options in game, even while fighting!

Tired of messing with your config.ini? Some think, correctly, that both KotORs are fairly easy games. Especially when it comes to replaying them, this may become annoying. But you are ill advised to reset difficulty setting manually in your configuration files. Why? Because 3 (highest in K1) and 4 (highest in TSL) set difficulty to default, i.e. more easy than in ingame difficulty.

This mini-mod brings a solution: Set your difficulty level in-game! All you need is a simple 2da.file.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Drop the corresponding files manually in the folders where they belong.

Recommended: "Normal". If you are an elite gamer OR like to use heavily modded Override folders for your Kotor games, then you have the option to use the "hardcore" settings which tweak all levels one step, i.e. easy becomes normal, normal difficult and so on, see below for details.

Regarding compatibility: the files employ a simple trick, they use dialogue.tlk-lines from the standard tlk.file, to be precise: "Choke" and "Horror" from the Force Powers entries. So compatibility is universal.

COMMENTS
Here are the stats:

Kotor, normal difficultyopt.2da

[cfg.ini] descr. multiplier
0 Easy 1.00
1 Normal 1.75 (I tweaked this one, default was 1.5)
2 Difficult 2.75
3 Horror 3.50

Kotor, hardcore 2da

[cfg.ini] descr. multiplier
0 Easy 1.50
1 Normal 2.50
2 Difficult 3.50
3 Horror 4.50
(The last should be near to insane.)

TSL, normal 2da

[cfg.ini] descr. multiplier
0 Easy 0.50
1 Normal 1.00
2 Difficult 1.50
3 Choke 2.00
4 Horror 2.50

TSL, hardcore 2da

[cfg.ini] descr. multiplier
0 Easy 1.00
1 Normal 1.50
2 Difficult 2.00
3 Choke 2.50
4 Horror 3.00
(TSL is more b*tchy than its predecessor, in some areas 4 is still ridiculous, in others - for instance 804DRO or 152HAR you are going to have a hard time.)

If you still find the game too easy, get Beancounter's Hardcore mod. In conjunction with this mod you should have every opportunity to become one with the Force.

A final remark, if you are a fervent modder, I added one additional line respectively (Choke / Insanity), but you can do nothing with it, setting the difficulty level in the cfg.ini to 4, 5 or higher will mar the AI (yes, that is still possible with Kotor).

My thanks go to Fred Tetra, master tool creator.

BUGS: None, I hope.

PERMISSIONS: You may use this mod in every way you wish. Don't forget to curse me when you die on Peragus.

THIS MODIFICATION IS PROVIDED AS-IS AND IS NOT SUPPORTED BY BIOWARE/OBSIDIAN ENTERTAINMENT OR LUCASARTS OR ANY LICENSERS/SPONSORS OF THE MENTIONED COMPANIES. Updates will only come, when I am able to provide savegames (I am stuck after the Citadel, because I have not had time to go through the game twice.)

Original review from FileFront

"Time flies when you’re having fun and let’s face it. The Knights of the Old Republic games have been around for a good number of years. The original Knights of the Old Republic is about to have its four year anniversary. Can you believe it? The sequel, Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords is about to have its two and half year anniversary. Those numbers seem big, but yet it doesn’t seem that long ago these games were released.

Anyway, as time goes on and we keep playing our Knights of the Old Republic games, it tends to get easier and easier to play. We keep playing them because of the good storylines and being a Jedi or a Sith, using Force Powers, and building a lightsaber is just cool. Sometimes we need new challenges when playing our favorite games, wouldn’t you agree?

Darth Shan is back with another mod that gives you the options to increase the game difficulty level for both Knights of the Old Republic games. This mod is meant for advanced users. If you’re new to playing these games as some of you are I’ve noticed, I would make sure you’ve learned all the skills you can before trying this mod or you’re going to be very frustrated with it. Hopefully this mod will breathe new life into wanting to play them again for those who are bored of it, but lurk around here seeing what’s new. Well, this is new, so give it a shot.

As mentioned in the last paragraph that this is for both Knights of the Old Republic games and there are folders that are labeled which games they belong to, so make sure you install the right files for the right game in order to keep your games functioning properly. Get ready for a new challenge. Enjoy the mod advanced users!

Note: Please leave the author feedback, especially if you download this mod and use it. It really helps encourage the author to make more mods in the future.

For those of you wanting to know whether or not this is worth it?

Look no further!            Basically this mod allows you to use other mods, without feeling like you cheated or that you are overpowered. It brings You to your KNEES.

                         You want a challenge?

Want to feel like Revan is truly the most Powerful Sith/Jedi ever!

This will bring back the epicness Kotor 1 and 2 Need.

This is a necessary mod and will break you!

If you think he can beat Kotor 1 with your eyes closed? Open them and install this.

You.        Will.               Never.            Be.               Able.                 To.              Close them.

Says universally compatible in the description, but the author didn't check it off as TSLRCM compatible. Anyone tested this out?

Could it be is not compatible with TSLRM because it uses a custom dialog.tlk? hmm i wonder if it will work with Dustil restoration added since it uses an updated dialog.tlk alongisde tslrm...

The only reason it tinkers with the dialog.tlk file is simply to have the name for ""Choke" and "Horror" from the Force Powers entries. So compatibility is universal," this means that it only uses that file to grab the name, which is non-essential.

Just don't use the dialog.tlk file and it should stilll work. In my experience, I did not install the dialog.tlk file for either kotor or TSL, and didn't have any problems.

You don't need the dialog.tlk file. (Actually it was originally needed for non-English versions of the game to make this mod work.)

TSLRCM was an ever-evolving project, so there was no testing at that time. If you are not asked to overwrite something, this will still work with any other mod.

Thanks for the mod! Just tested for TSL that difficulties past Difficult (Choke & Horror) don't have correct skill requirement DC's and actually have lower than Difficult. (For example, picking a lock at Difficult was 26DC vs horror + choke's 21DC). Thus, choke and horror gives less xp for skill checks. Not sure if this also affects dialogue checks and xp rewards.
