KotOR Continuity for TSL

Hi :)

With the release of the KotOR Save Importer for TSL (found here), making TSL's continuity match what happened in a KotOR game is now possible. I'm hoping to create a mod which adds some continuity features to TSL based on the events in KotOR 1. Thor110 has offered to help with this, and if anyone else would like to contribute I'm very open to that as well.

I created this thread to continue a great discussion on the DS modding discord about some possible additions to TSL. If you have any suggestions for things we could add to TSL that depend on the player's actions in KOTOR 1, please respond to this post with them.

In that discussion, we came up with the following suggestions (credit given where due; apologies if I missed someone, I did my best):
 - Atton no longer requiring the player to tell him what happened in KotOR 1 (me)
 - Cameos in TSL are adjusted based on the events of KotOR 1 (Thor110, Soaring__Sky)
 - HK-47 is found in a shop on Nar Shaddaa if he wasn't purchased in KotOR 1 (Thor110)
 - Obligatory Deadeye Duncan appearance (bogpill)
 - Yuthura (Soaring__Sky)
 - Elise from Dantooine (yeah... her) (bogpill)
 - Nikto NPCs referencing swoop gang choices from K1 (134340Goat)
 - Add some T3 dialog discussing what happened in K1, depending on whether the player repaired T3's memory in K1 (134340Goat)
 - Mission/Zaalbar/their allies(?) helping Atton in the cantina when he needs it (group effort, with ideas from bogpill, Soaring__Sky, 134340Goat, Thor110, and me)
 - Griff tries to talk the player into some far-fetched scheme (Soaring__Sky)
 - A Romeo/Juliet spinoff could make an appearance, if the appropriate quest was completed in KOTOR 1 (bogpill)

A good use of the save port could be Revan having your chosen name and still being with whatever love interest you picked, this could include same sex relationships as well, if you had that as an option in the game through a mod.

Another one could be to make Revan look the way you chose them to look along with them being unmasked or in different clothing from time to time.

And finally, probably a really ridiculous one that would need to be fleshed out more, maybe even make it a sequel as if it were made by Bioware and not Obsidian. You would probably just be better off making it a separate mod altogether, kind of like the fan made kotor 3.

The idea of making Revan, not Revan, at least not how he is in TSL, as bad and not a major part of the story. Revan could possibly still be playable in some way, either as a companion or as the main character depending on your decisions to go against or with the sith. Maybe this could be a direct sequel a few years after 1, probably 3-6 years depending on how you'd want to flesh out the story.

I'm thinking that the last idea would also use some elements from your first save like the stuff previously mentioned above, and Revan could be fighting to either wipe out the Jedi, or the Sith depending on your decisions in the 1st game. Again, as if it were Bioware's sequel.

I believe you are misunderstanding the purpose of their mod.

Their mod and the tool they made for it, currently allows players to skip Attons conversations in regards to the gender and force alignment of the player in the first game.

Due to the fact that we are talking about Revan & The Exile and two different stories entirely, I don't think there is any plan to try and make both games use the same main character as a few people seem to have suggested / got the idea that it will work this way.

At the moment it just makes it so that the player does not have to discuss Revan with Atton on Peragus, but there are plans to make it so that it effects other things that could be carried over from the first game, such as whether or not certain characters are alive in the second game.

Okay, yeah, I can understand where you're coming from, and how I might be wrong. But, making Revan the main character wasn't the only suggestion and it was just a suggestion. I did realize how it can't work, and how it's a bit of a hope more than a possibility. I mean, it would be cool to see someone mod a direct sequel rather than what we have right now, maybe use this mod to continue this journey. Kind of like, Kotor 2 and not TSL.

I understand and just felt the need to clarify why that wouldn't work. ( maybe for some people it would ? ) but I don't see it myself.

The name of your character would be possible to transfer across as it could be pulled from the save file.

I believe the final love interest was not actually something we discussed though it seems so obvious now.

As for same-sex that would make it rely on more mods but again it could be done.

Having Revan have the same head as the player chosen head would also be possible.

As for Revan being a companion or main character again, the only way that would fit into the story would be as a sequel. ( this is something I have actually considered for my Post-K2 project but is not something I will be working on until after my main two projects )

I struggled to read through your suggestions as they are all bunched together ( I do this myself sometimes but I try not to in Forums / open discussion ) but I have tried to answer them for you and hopefully some of these ideas might be useful for lachjames or anyone else that makes mods that rely on this project.

I agree with you as it being more of a sequel and possibly it's own standalone mod, as that's what I was initially thinking when I was writing it down, and having it go through my head. I went ahead and cleaned up my first message and made some alterations, and better explained myself for sake of clarity and simplicity.

As for you making it as a mod, yourself and working on your K2 project, it would be absolutely amazing to see you work on an alternate sequel to kotor. It makes sens you would do it after your current main project and I would want you to finish that well before any other mods just because of what you're doing is so amazing and ground breaking.

Speaking of which, and going off of the main topic for a moment, what's going on with K2 in K1? Feel free to DM me instead of replying to keep things clean in this forum post.

Great idea for a mod! I have some suggestions.

Make Revan use head chosen by player in Kotor I and use unmasked model in Korriban cave. It may be too ambitious, but can you reuse unmasking animation from KOTOR I for that scene? It would also be great if the player could transfer Revan's custom head (from mods) to TSL for the Korriban scene (for example, insert a custom head file into the mod folder and then run TSLPatcher for installation). In addition, T3 can show umasked Revan hologram with high influence.

Also, it would've been cool to meet Suvam Tan again. Some Trandoshans can still have scores to settle with him (why am I thinking about The Red Eclipse).

Another idea is based on the outcome of "A Chieftain in Need" quest: Exile can find some enslaved wookiees in cage and Czerka employee in one of the rooms on Nar Shaddaa or some free wookiees-workers (in that case they can be located on Telos with Chodo Habat). Can be turned into side-quest to free/enslave them. Actually those wookiees can be sold to Eclipse, Czerka, Exchange for different price.

And add some gizka to the game!

I think making Revan a bigger part of the story (keeping relationships, the face, etc.) is a great idea and shouldn't be too hard to implement. Perhaps changing the cave scene so Revan takes off their mask is a good start there, as LoneWanderer suggests. Maybe Thor110 can help me with porting animations from K1.

Adding interactions with quests is also a great idea (e.g. LoneWanderer's suggestions, Manaan's economy, etc.), and I'd love some more suggestions for those.

Before I can start working on this mod, I want to make sure I have adequate TTS models for the K1 characters I'll need (I have one for Bastila, so I need to develop one for Carth, Mission, and HK). It's just a matter of training time now as I've already collected datasets. Once I have these TTS models, I'll be able to create new content for KOTOR 2 using characters from KOTOR 1, which will make a continuity mod a lot more compelling.
