Saul Karath & Carth Cutscene not activating

Hi, i am unable to activate the cut-scene where Saul is whispering to Carth on the bridge of the Leviathan as he dies. From my understanding the issue lies in enemies not being triggered as dead.

 

Things i have tried:

1) I tried removing all mods and then resuming from that game-save. Worked just as before... No activation. 

2) Started a new game with NO mods getting back to bridge and cut-scene works as intended. 

3) Re-installed my mods carefully recording conflicts and TSL Patcher Backup files. Started a new game. Still No activation

4) Last thing i tried was removing an elite armor mod because there are two troopers on the deck. Removing that mod didn't change a thing.

5) My final guess is to remove Kotor 1 Restoration 1.2 and see if it will function with just only the other mods. But i'll wait for input before i try.

 

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can lend a hand in helping me find a solution. I'm looking to be able to successfully activate the cut-scene, not just get past this part in the game.

None of those mods, from my limited understanding, would cause an issue like that, other than K1R.

 

But here's my advice check your override for any of the following files > lev40_saul402.dlg (for that matter any lev40 files), lev40_brdgcs.utt, lev40_bridgedoor.dlg, lev40_talk.utc, lev40_saulbridge.utc, lev40_brdgcs.utt, bdgunlock.utt.

 

Also, did you manage to kill all of the NPCs on the bridge? Did you manage to kil Saul Karath? 

Additionally, you have to load a save prior to entering that module for your mod changes to be accepted by the game.

 

The game remembers modules via saved games, so if you used a modded save where you had previously entered that module (area) then the game would recall the changes from those mods.

Agreed. I don't see any other mods that could cause this either.

 

So you could try and remove all the lev40 files as jc2 suggested and also lev_m40ad.mod from the modules folder (if it exists). Then load a savegame where you haven't entered the bridge module yet and see if the issue was fixed. If it was, you can search through your mods if any of them edited these files or if it really was only K1R that modified them, to see which mod is the cause of your issue.

jc2, yes i am able to kill the enemies as well as saul. he just lays on the ground with nothing happening.

New things i've tried: 

1) remove lev40_saul403.dlg + lev40_carth.dlg  from override folder. Resume game in module lev_m40ab. Still no cutscene.

2) additionally removed lev_m40ad.mod and resumed again in module lev_m40ab. Still no cutscene.

3) Left  lev40_saul403.dlg + lev40_carth.dlg deleted, but restored these files from k1r backup folder (lev_m40aa.mod, lev_m40ab.mod, lev_m40ad.mod) to modules folder. As well as adding (lev_m40ab_loc.mod, lev_m40aa_loc.mod, lev_m40ad_loc.mod) to lips folder. I then resumed from a gave-save just before the leviathan picks the ebon hawk up. Followed through story still no cutscene.

Welcome to DS btw! 

 

1) those files have to do with the Interrogation scene, so no effect. 

2) you'll have to resume a save before entering that module, otherwise removing the module from the Modules folder won't have any affect. It's the kotor rule of load a save prior to entering a module or the game won't recognize what you've done or removed. 

3) Nothing with the lips folder should be messed with, that controls lip movement, which has nothign to do with this issue. Good test run though by loading a save prior to that module. 

 

I'm going to have to do some research to figure this out but if it's not a UTC issue.

 

Then it has to be either a trap (UTT) or a script (NCS) mabye the heartbeat script was edited... or somethign else. 

 

Might be a k1r issue by itself, might be k1r with something... I'm going to look through the files of a few of those, non-reskin mods and see if there's something that shouldn'tt be there.

 

 

Edit: This is a dumb question, did you try walking up to Saul Karath and talking to him?

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but was the cause of this issue ever discovered? I've been having this same issue and have tried all the fixes listed but am still having the issue. My mods are essentially identical to the OP's. I've gotten around it before with a simple warp, but would obviously rather identify and fix the problem. Any ideas?

Hey sorry for the late reply. I never found a solution. If you have the time to debug it and share a solution that would be awesome but unfortunately i dont have the time anymore. As i recall it was ok with just k1r, but i didnt have the patience to try each individual mod toggling different combos to see what triggered it.

Ok, again sorry to revive the same dead thread...

BUT! I bring good news!

After some playing around, I managed to isolate the issue due to a file in the Override folder; don't know how I missed it all this time. Removing n_darkjedim001 from my Override seems to have done the trick. I still don't know from which mod the file came from or the nature of the incompatibility, but at this point, who cares?

Anyway, thanks to everyone in this thread for the help!

Any mod that includes a file with that name is likely to cause problems. I think I remember having that issue when testing K1 Enchantment / Enhancement, which has a few other such issues.

The problem is due to reused file names. You intend to replace one NPC in one area, but BioWare used the same file name NPC for another NPC somewhere else, so it overrides both. This can lead to game-breaking bugs when there's a discrepancy in their information, like the UTCs having different tags or scripts.

Yeah, I've encountered issues like that before (although mainly in TSL since Obsidian was considerably more lazy with their file-naming).

Finally got around to playing kotor 1 again and tested Mutilator57's theory out for myself and it also worked for me. The mod that had the 'n_darkjedim001'' in my case was from the mod Jorn's Saber Mod https://www.nexusmods.com/kotor/mods/240/ Thanks Mutilator57 for sharing your solution!
