High Quality Ravager Backdrop


I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who was always bothered by that ridiculously low resolution texture used for the Ravager and the Sith Fighters during the final battle of the game, so I decided to make this really small modification that replaces this 256x256 pixel texture with a high quality 2048x2048 pixel version. The models I used to make the texture were done by Jeronimoe. Big thanks to him, you can check out his Empire at War mods over on moddb.

 

INSTALLATION

Place TEL_Rav.tga into your Override folder.

 

UNINSTALLATION

Delete TEL_Rav.tga from your Override folder.

As some people noted in the review section, my texture doesn't quite show enough of the Ravagers damage, so I made some edits. What do you think?

If you have any ideas how to improve this texture, feel free to tell me and I'll try to incorporate them.

It might look better, but you seem like you're not dealing with the key issue of actually showing/adding more damage to the ship. Adding the shadows or darkening parts is only making it harder to see, for me anyway.

Well, the problem is certainly not that I don't know what the damage should look like ;) but more that I'm really, really bad at making textures from scratch, so that makes creating the damage pretty difficult.

If anyone who's better at doing this wants to improve the texture we can probably work something out. But I feel like I can't do anything more to make it look better :/

You should probably ask the guy that made the model if he could create a damaged version of the Ravager. Show the guy the pictures above.

I agree that a high quality model will, in turn make for a higher-detail texture.

 

However, if you want to make some damage for yourself, try to first find either a good reference or build for yourself, the "skeleton" or innards of the Ravager first, then blend it using a layer mask with the original high rez Ravager you made.

 

I apologize if I sound a bit rude or pretentious. Your texture looks quite frankly incredible (especially the fighters).

Creating a skeleton and blending it with the texture would probably be the best way to create the damage but I really don't know how to make such a skeleton, so I'll guess I'll leave the texture as it is until I find a way or someone else makes a better one ;)

I.... Could find some time to whip up something for you. For some reason, I really like creating "guts" for mechanical devices. Blame the Incredible Cross Section books from my youth. ;)

That would certainly be cool, if you want to do this. And if you could, please use the picture in my second post here as a basis since I'd prefer to use this shot of the model which has a slightly different perspective compared to my original release.

It took a while, but version 2.0 is finally up :D

A big thanks to Malkior, who created the additional damage detail for the Ravager.

I highly recommend to redownload the mod, since it looks sooo much better now. Hope you like it :)
