Blog #24 - Video Editing Questions

I've recorded a decent amount of footage from Star Wars: The Old Republic with the intention of doing some movie / playthroughs on my YouTube channel. However, editing isn't my forte. I also wish to make some close edits - hopefully down to the frame - so I can include as much footage as possible. I'd love to have some suggestions on how I can create HD videos on YouTube with the footage that I've recorded.

The tools I currently have:

Video:
FRAPS (A legal copy, so I won't have the watermark that unregistered versions of the program have)
Roxio 2010 (including VideoWave)
Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0
and of course, Windows Movie Maker (LOL)

Audio:
Goldwave
Audacity

Might anyone have recommendations on programs to use or "how-to" suggestions on putting the walkthroughs together that they could pass along?

If you need more information, let me know.

Do you plan to do live commentary?

What codec are you using in Fraps at the moment?

I can put together some information for you when I have time

I plan to have no commentary and let the video do the talking for me. Think of it as me editing a movie rather than a Let's Play and you're on the right track. ;)

Where would I look up the codec information, Xuul?

Actually I just checked and found out I was mistaken. You cant change the codec in Fraps I was thinking of Bandicam & Dxtory. You should be fine provided you have the harddrive space since the Fraps codec results in big files.

I'll put together something more comprehensive on recording and editing when I get home.

Last I checked, Windows Movie Maker doesn't allow good HD video to be exported. It's the reason I caved all the way and bought Avid. But I think Sony Vegas would work just fine.

Rendering my first movie using Xuul's privately messaged tips. It has been rendering about 13 hours and 20 minutes now. There's 5 percent left.

OK . . .

I finally have the video made now at 1920 by 1080.  However says it's too big.  As I want it in HD on YouTube, how do I get the video up on the site? It is currently in AVI format.

I think I have it down now. Uploading stuff now. I will put links to a playlist when I am done but it won't be right away. Don't expect a big "wow" factor with these.
