Entry #10 - April 2019 Update

Hey everyone!   As per usual, I've failed to keep this blog regularly updated. Life has been crazy hectic these past few months, work is ramping up on my Master's course and my shift has been taken away slightly from this project - but it's still going alive and well! Firstly, I meant to make a blog on this last month, but, THE OFFICIAL TEASER TRAILER FOR THE SOLDIER'S DESTINY is now live! Had a lot of fun making this one. I drew a lot of inspiration from the fantastic second teaser for The Force Awakens all the way back in April 2015, and I really wanted to homage it here. In fact, there's a couple of nice nods/homages to TFA in the film... Secondly, I'm pleased to say that I am PICTURE-LOCKED on Taris, minus a couple of SFX, the first hour of the film is technically good to go. I'm sure I'll find a hundred things to cut/move after I sit down and watch it all together for the first time. I've also made some good progress on Dantooine, and had a surprising amount of time to do a lot of the basic assembly on Tatooine. There's some really nice sequences throughout this film I don't think you'll see coming. Some are definitely a "first" for KOTOR Machinimas, brand new stuff. I wanted this film to be the freshest take on KOTOR yet, and I'm still sticking to that goal. This month is going to be very hectic for me with deadlines, so progress had been at a near-halt since late March, and will probably stay that way until the end of the month, but I should have a lot more time to devote to the film in May, with looking at a possible late-June/early July release window, but, there's no rush. I'm adopting the CDProjektRed philosophy of: "It's coming when it's ready." Finally, if you're curious about hearing some of the score for the upcoming film, I've just released a brand new video highlighting some of the themes. This is some of my favourite selections yet, especially for Bastila's NEW theme, Dantooine & the Star Maps.   That's it for now, look for another blog entry come early May!   ~ DV

Entry #9 KOTOR Prequels End of 2018 Status

Hey everyone! As 2018 draws to a close (damn, time flies), I thought I'd share an update on the project. Unfortunately, there won't be a trailer anytime this year -or, what's left of it- like I was hoping. It simply isn't in a state to be shown off yet, nor is enough done to warrant a trailer of any kind. But, with that said, the film is coming along really, really well. The story arc for all three films has been in place for about a year now, and thanks to some people, particularly @Sith Holocron, I now have a complete visual look for the film nailed, as well as a soundtrack. It's shaping up to be quite the challenge, adapting K1 in a manner that stays faithful to the game whilst still feeling connected to my TSL quadrilogy is no easy feat, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying it. Outside of that, I am a lot more busy now than I ever was during production of my TSL films. Between a very exhausting Master's degree and a job, I don't have a lot of time free. I'm even starting to (hopefully) branch into freelance video editing as a career, but more on that next year. For now, rest assured, the film is coming, and you can expect the title and your first look at it early next year. I have no release date in mind, but, a late spring/early summer 2019 would be ideal. We'll see.  That's all for now, work is slowing down for the year now as we enter the holiday period, think I need a bit of a break from it all, too! I went into pre-production only two weeks after TPK released, so a week or so off to spend time with family (and of course, more uni work) is needed. I plan to start releasing snippets of the soundtrack in January, so you can look forward to that before getting a real look at the film. Attached to this post are a few sneak-peek screen shots of the film... Hope you all have a great Christmas, everyone, and a happy new year! I love being on this site and a part of this community.   ~ DV   EDIT: Apologies if some of the screenshots appear a bit dark...that's Premire's doing, not how they will look in the finished film. Colour grading will be the last thing I do!

Entry #8 - THE PREQUELS... now in production!

Hey everyone! As of a few days ago, I entered FULL PRODUCTION on the first in my upcoming prequel series to my TSL quadrilogy, tackling K1 itself. The first film in the series, (name to be announced), is looking better than anything I've ever done before, as I am now shooting in full 1080p widescreen whereas with K2 I used to shoot in 1280x720 and upscale it to 1080p. Stupid, I know. But this is how you learn from your mistakes. In addition to this, I am using a plethora of visual upgrade mods to give the film as fresh a look at possible. This is a time before Darth Revan returned to power, so it expect it to look and feel very different to my original films, but unmistakably still feeling like it belongs in the same universe. Expect more humor, more exciting action and a very different in personality protagonist as I aim to show a good, noble man turn into a monster. All of it, the themes, music, characters, style, etc., is so new to me, as I try to break away from the gritty and bleak universe of TSL and make this film (and the two sequels) feel like to most unique version of K1 you've ever seen... That's all for now, but I'll leave you with a couple of screenshots to tease what is to come. I am by no means rushing this one, and a deadline (and trailer) will only be released when I have reached a considerable milestone.   ~ DV

Entry #7 - The Prodigal Knight: OUT NOW

Hey everyone, The day is finally here. The Prodigal Knight is finally out and viewable for everyone. Four years of work culminating in this final film You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BZpAZM43Zo What a journey this has been. Thank you so much to all of you for your patience and support in particular this year as the first half of 2018 was a bit rocky for me. This has been exhausting, but so much fun, and I'm so glad I could see it though to the end.  To my countless voice actors - you know who you are! - thank you to all of you so much, again. Please feel free to leave any kind of review, feedback, etc., you like! That's all for now, I really hope you all enjoy it.    Now I suppose I should look at adapting that other Knights of the Old Republic game? Hmm, maybe a short break first...     Take care,   ~ DV   Oh, and you might wanna stick around until after the credits...

Entry #6 - The Prodigal Knight is FINISHED

"It is done, at last... it is done."   Hey everyone! Wow, what a month or so it has been. Re-casting Zekk went better than expected and the film, as of today, is officially done and ready to go. The film will be going public THIS FRIDAY. For any of my voice actors; look out for a little surprise coming sooner than that... I cannot express enough how much this means to me, this began as a "what if?" project back in November 2014 and since then the channel has grown to over 1000 subscribers and lots of people excited for the final chapter. I honestly can't convey enough my gratitude for all the support I've received over the past four years and I'm so excited to release this film. It's the biggest and best yet, I've tried to go out with a bang and hit you all in the feels at the same time. Fourteen months worth of work is about to pay off, and I really hope you all like it as much as I do. No film is perfect, but I'd being lying if I said I wasn't proud to round off adapting one of my all-time favourite games with this film. Alright, that's enough boasting for now. If you haven't seen it yet, the theatrical trailer is now out (link below). I really tried to make it as ambitious as possible and give it a modern spin. Looking forward to hearing what you all think on the finished film. @UnusualCharacters, I know I've thanked you a million times but I want to thank you again so, so much for coming on board not only for extra HK lines, but for breathing new life into Zekk and giving him a completely new take. You're the best! I'll post back on Friday when the film is out. For now, enjoy the trailer!   ~ DV   P.S: Would anyone be interested in a Q&A style video with the cast and crew after the film is released? I posted about this earlier on my status update, reckon it would be a lot of fun. Let me know!

*IMPORTANT* Entry 5# - The Prodigal Knight has been delayed indefinitely.

AUDITIONS ARE NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO AUDITIONED.      Hey everyone,   Well, this is a post I had hoped I'd never have to make, but here we are. I regret to say that the final film in my series: "The Prodigal Knight" is on an INDEFINITE hiatus. This is due to my main voice actor for Zekk becoming AWOL and failing to meet various deadlines and (recently) no longer responding to my emails at all. Because of this, I have finally decided to part ways with this voice actor. I want to say now, that I hold no ill will against this person, this is not a character assassination or a rant against him, but I can no longer continue to delay this film because of him. I have an understanding of his situation and I wish him all the best, but I don't feel it's fair on myself to be kept waiting any longer whilst wondering if I will ever receive the final sets of lines to complete the film.  What does this mean for the project? Well, first of all: IT IS NOT DEAD. This project WILL eventually be done, I promise. This setback, however, means I must now re-cast Zekk for this final film and find a new actor to re-record ALL of his lines for this film, not just the remaining few. I won't be happy with releasing a film where the lead changes voice halfway through. They don't do it in the movie industry, and I don't see why I should either. This will take time, yes, but I have all the lines written and ready to go, to be sent in one large batch to whoever eventually takes the part.  Auditions for the part are now OPEN. If you are interested, please contact me directly on here. Or, if you have a recommendation for a voice actor, please send it my way. Please note I am NOT able to offer any voice actors any form of payment other than my undying gratitude and an early download link to the film before it goes public. I will not being looking into paid voice acting sites, either.   If you want to audition for the role, you must fit the following criteria: - Have access to  HIGH QUALITY/professional level recording equipment. I am not *too* picky, but background noise and/or gaming headset mics are a no go.  - Have a link to at least one existing showreel you are willing to share with me, so I can hear your work before considering you. - Be punctual when replying to emails and meeting deadlines. - Able to act using a deep and confident tone. For further reference, please consult my previous films to see how Zekk sounded.   Please remember: This is a BIG part, with a lot of lines. Please don't audition for this role if you are not up to the commitment.   Thank you to everyone who has stuck with me as I make it through this film. It will see the light of day, I promise. And I hope you will all agree when I say it will be worth the wait.   ~ DV

Entry #4 - "Where's The Prodigal Knight?"

"I have no set release date in mind, but I'm looking at Spring/early Summer potentially, though, don't hold me to that!" - Me in my January 2018 blog. Oh boy was I right on the "don't hold me to that" part...   So, hey guys! It's been over five months since my last entry, so I thought I'd give you all an in-depth update on TPK, and why it's taking so long. Before I explain I just want to make one thing clear: This project is not dead. It's alive, and you will see it this year, I promise. In March I uploaded a new trailer with a release date of "Spring 2018", as I don't need to tell any of you, that release time came and has now gone. Truthfully, I can't give an exact date yet, this is because I simply don't know, and I really don't want to rush anything. I've been working on this film since June last year, and it's been a very busy twelve months. So starting from the beginning... - June 2017: Legacy of the Sith is released, I go straight into production on TPK. Complete the first 3-5 minutes of the film quite quickly. - Late June 2017 - July: I went on holiday for nearly two weeks, and with also visiting family I was away for pretty much a month. No progress on the film. - Late July - end of August 2017: Resume work on the film, around 25 minutes is complete by the end of August. - September 2017: My first semester of my final year at university starts. Open the flood gates to the hell of third year work. - September - November 2017: Consistently balance working on the film and uni work. - November to December 2017: Our film shoot at uni starts, 12 hour exhaustive days. I go straight into the edit of that film after. Still find some time to work on the film. Just arriving on Malachor V. - End of December 2017 - Semester ends! I have about an hour of the film done. First teaser trailer released on Christmas Eve. Go home for Christmas, eat a lot of food. - January 2018 - Return to uni and film work. - February to April 2018: Film work slows down, waiting on lines from actors and my uni work ramping up. I have another film and a 10,000 word dissertation ahead of me all due by May. - April 2018: Film shoot begins. 12-14 hour days shooting, the most exhausting few days of my life. Straight into edit after, deadline is not far away. I also finish my dissertation in this period. - May 2018: All deadlines are handed in. By this point, I have not worked on the film in over a month. FINALLY receive some lines from a voice actor. Back to work on the film. I hit around an hour and 25 minutes. - Late May 2018: Officially wrap SHOOTING on TPK. Begin working on promotional material whilst I wait for lines. - June 2018: As of now, the film is done EXCEPT for lines from voice actors. Every After Effects shot, colour grade, part of the sound mix, etc. is done. All I have to do on my end is plug the lines in when I get them and create the credits sequence.   So that's where I am at. As you can see, I have been incredibly busy, but, I've tried my hardest to work on the film where I can. I really can't wait for it to be done so I can start releasing the promotional material (got a couple of nice surprises planned) and then the film itself. If all goes well, and I receive all the lines by the end of July, then the film will be out for AUGUST. But, again, don't hold me to that. Thank you all for bearing with me through this, I promise it'll be worth the wait! Want even more proof it's nearly done? Here's a screen shot from my final mix timeline, once I receive the lines from my actors the next 30-40 mins will be exported and join this timeline below to fill in the gaps. (The film has been edited slightly out of sequence):   TL;DR: It's nearly done minus lines from actors.

Entry #3 - Jan 2018 Update

Hey everyone,   So I haven't updated this blog in a while, truth be told, I completely forgot it existed!   So what have I been up to since my last entry? Well I began full work on the final film in my KOTOR II Movie Quadrilogy! I've been working on it since around June 2017 (some months have been more productive than others) and I'm really pleased with it so far, I honestly think it's some of my best work and I'm aiming to go out with a bang.   The film is being edited slightly out of sequence but I feel confident in saying I have around an hour and 20 minutes locked down, with the next 10-15 currently being cut together, the complete film is looking at being around 2 hours & 5-10 minutes (not including credits). I uploaded the first teaser for it on Christmas Eve and since then I've actually made a surprising amount of progress, expect more previews/trailers in the coming couple months.   I have no set release date in mind, but I'm looking at Spring/early Summer potentially, though, don't hold me to that! That's about it for now, I think. I have a very busy semester ahead of me too, and I'm in no rush to get this film out. It needs to be the very best it can be.   Here's the first teaser for anyone who hasn't seen it yet:   ~ DV

Entry #1: Legacy of the Sith - Theatrical Trailer

Hey everyone!   I'm new to this, so bare with me as I get used to the notion of blogging my updates on my films.   As of now, the third film in my series "Legacy of the Sith" stands at around 90% done, I'm currently working on filming/editing the final few scenes. I'm really happy with this film so far, I've been working on it since around April 2016 as I think it's my best work yet, it's the most exciting of the series so far, with some large action set pieces, and thanks to the help of Jenks (known as Jenko here) I've learnt how to write custom scripts to trigger some neat looking animations in the game.   I'll post a more in-depth blog post in the near future, for now, I'm back to work on finishing this film.   You can check out the full theatrical trailer here:   Enjoy!   By the way, would anyone be interested in a tutorial series on how I create my films? I've had several requests on YouTube and a few on here on how I create certain sequences, I'd probably be looking into it after finishing the final film some time next year, let me know!   ~DV
