Visibility of names and descriptions of modded items

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum (and to Kotor modding) and I have a question. Is there any way to make the name and the description of a modded item visible? I' currently using the Kotor Tool and the Kotor Savegame Editor. Thanks for your help.

Edit: And I'm using the Steam version of Kotor II: The Sith Lords if this is important for the solution of my issue.

You can edit items name and description in corresponding *.uti file. If you already have this item in your inventory you will not see the changes, but if you find a new one (or give it yourself via cheats or KSE), they will appear in game.

Thanks for your response. I tried this already and that's the reason I'm asking. If I change the name and/or the description of an item there will be nothing in-game (the text field is completely blank). I saved the *.uti file in the override folder and only changed the description (and the fields for the name and the description are blank).

Edit: Corrected some typos.

Could you upload the .uti file for us to have a look?

The only thing that comes to my mind without looking at it is that you need to set the stringref for name and description to -1 or it will still look in dialog.tlk for them. But then you'd get the wrong ones and not blank entries, so that's probably not it.

By my experience, the game (at least K1) actually uses the strref only if there’s not a localized string, so the -1 may not be necessary. It’s cleaner, though.

Are you using a language version that’s not English? KTool defaults to English language, and as such, texts appear only in English version by default.

@Krexikus:

I tried it with the standard "a_belt_01.uti" one and just changed the description to "test". If I type in the cheat "giveitem a_belt_01" it shows blank fields for name and description.

@LilliArch:

Yes, I'm using the German version.

Edit: For the description field it works to select German as description language. But that doesn't work for the name of the item. The name field is still blank.
