Help me help my mother.

If you all could help, I need some of the collective wisdom and knowledge of the net.

 

My mother holds on to her old xp tank of a computer, but I desire her direct line to the net. She will surrender her spot if I can inform her of an email program that will allow her to manage her emails like Microsoft Outlook but open source.

Gmail is good, but Thunderbird is the answer you seek if you are looking for a program that does the same as Outlook (though I still wonder why people bother using those...). However, might be hard to coordinate a blackberry calendar with Thunderbird as opposed to Outlook???
