You are right, gameplay must come first, but I feel like this is all about what reone can do and it is able to do incredible things. If this was only about gameplay, we wouldn't need reone. We are already able to play the game just fine. Showcasing some of the graphic capabilities going forward should be one of the priorities. I mean, sure, it is open source, but unless you or someone else capable pave the way, it will not succeed as much as it could. Granted, there are many fans of Kotor capable of doing things like these, but how many of them do you think even heard of Reone so far? A few small improvements such as these is a must, no? There is a reason why people expect things like real time combat from reone. Original feels too clunky to play these days. Changing vanilla behavior is one thing, what we are talking about is small improvements over the original. Just look at the last good Bioware game, Dragon Age Origins which uses basically the same engine (well, same underlying codebase anyhow), even original devs noticed many of the shortcomings of their engine and improved upon them and added many of the features that the original engine was sorely missing. A feature toggle for improved vs original would be amazing.

K1 Endgame Cutscene Improvements
joshjonasone replied to DarthParametric's topic in Work In Progress
I imagine reone will make many amazing things possible. Hopefully including this. -
This is amazing! I love this! Great job! Will it support tessellation, volumetric lighting and whatnot? It would be amazing if it is possible. Either way, I love how Ebon Hawk looks. It is more beautiful than I could imagine. Even without bumpmaps and whatnot, which would enhance it even further. One thing I will note though. I know it is too early to even consider this, but it is a pet peeve of mine and I need to mention it. Can you please somewhere along the line make it possible that player and NPC's can holster / sheath their weapons when they are not using them? People using computer, piloting ships or having a friendly conversation while holding pistols and swords always looked weird to me.

A proper porting tutorial from SWTOR to KOTOR 1&2
joshjonasone replied to joshjonasone's topic in Mod Requests
Thank you so much! This helps me a lot already! I already have 3ds Max (even though I never used it until now) and I am sorry if this is a noob question, but how do I get Kotor skeleton/animations to play nice with SWTOR models? Is there an easy way to do it using the existing rig and weights or will I have to mess with it a lot? -
I have been looking around and searching everywhere but I can't seem to find a proper tutorial for porting stuff from SWTOR to KOTOR 1&2. I also heard there is an automated method (or at least was going to be an automated method, it was a project I believe), but I can't recall where I saw it right now. I am especially interested in porting clothing, but I also want to port things like props and even maps. Please bless me with your knowledge. Thank you.

You don't disappoint. Like I said, I could already guess your answer. I say it only looks awful because of the texture and it could be made to look good. Because mesh wise it looks exactly like the original. Are you up for a challenge then? Provide me with the mesh and if I could make it look right, you will consider porting it? Deal?
-
I stand corrected. I only made that comment because I am not exactly sure what the poly count limit for Kotor is and I know most models for Swtor is low poly anyhow. Would you consider porting Bastila armor from Swtor? I can already guess your answer, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
-
Real problem with that outfit would be the poly count. I imagine it would be difficult at best to make it work with Kotor. One of the reasons why I suggested the Swtor model is because it is relatively low poly, while it looks decent enough. I know it doesn't look right at first glance, most armor doesn't look as good as it can be in Swtor, but a few adjustments to the texture could make it just right. I don't have Swtor installed at the moment, but if someone could provide me the Bastila armor mesh and textures, I believe I should be able to prove my point.
-
Looks great! Her nose seems a bit off to me, but I am not sure. Those robes and hair sure look low poly with the new face. I wish someone would port SWtor Bastila robes to Kotor.
-
I think I am in love. This just looks so damn beautiful. Makes me hope for sort of a remaster project with these kinds of assets. It would be easier if we all knew how to port models, everyone could work on a limited number of models and we could all finish it together. I know it is never going to happen, but a man can hope.
