Gratitude and a Nostalgic Review of my first experience with TSLRCM: Last night I completed my second play through of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. However, this was my first time playing with the restored content mod (including the addition of M4-78 EP, my thoughts on the addition of this droid planet are pretty much summed up by the creator’s own reflective review of his work: http://deadlystream.com/forum/topic/2312-m4-78-retrospective-review-by-zbyl-the-lead-himself/ ). Words cannot express my gratitude to the modders, creators, and community members who have spent many years crafting the evocative masterpiece that I just completed. The beauty, emotion, pain and philosophy that radiate within this game are riveting and surreal that it is impossible to encapsulate the game’s experience in words. Every decision in this game creates subtle echoes throughout your story. Every companion has a significant purpose and backstory if you take the time to engage with them. It takes the player on a spiritual journey unlike any other game I have ever played. This game has great action with strategic character builds or powers and party interaction. The story is rich with humorous lines such as: “And do not mate with her. Whatever you may feel, whatever urges consume you, do not let them control you, such union would breed... difficulties.” “Just because I saved her doesn't mean I was going to charge up her loading ramp.” But what is most notable is the enveloping dark undertone. This game is mature, melancholic, and almost somber in the profound moments that it creates: “Perhaps you were expecting some surprise, for me to reveal a secret that had eluded you, something that would change your perspective of events, shatter you to your core. There is no great revelation, no great secret. There is only you.” It basks in morally grey areas and is unafraid in leaving unanswered questions in the player’s mind. Ultimately you are left with the decision to alter the course of wounded worlds. Will you heal the rifts of war-torn worlds? “Your command echoes still, General. And I obey, as I did at Malachor V. Now, Malachor V comes to us. And I wish to face it, this last time. I have destroyed planets for you, General. But now, this once, if we could save something in this galaxy... I need to do this, or I will die inside. Like I died at Malachor V. I know you can hear me. I have always known. It is why I followed you. You know where you must go. It calls to you still. And she must be stopped, there, now, or she will bring the screams of Malachor V to the galaxy - just as we carried the echo all this way.” Will you merely be an instrument of vengeance against those who have exiled you and left you wounded? Or, shut yourself out from life completely? “It is such a quiet thing to fall... but far more terrible as to admit it.” This is without a question the best experience I have had as a gamer. The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM) has restored a game that was broken upon release (see http://deadlystream.com/ for details) and transformed it into the archetypical masterpiece it was always meant to be. Other RPGs should be envious of what this game has been able to achieve. Having bought this game three times (Xbox, PC CD-ROM, and Steam versions) I am unabashedly a staunch advocate that everyone should try this game (with the Restored Content Mod) at some point in their life. Even though it was released in 2004, its powerful story, philosophical craftsmanship, and poignant moral dilemmas make the game no less engaging ten years later. Thank you to all of those who made this possible. I only hope others might be able to engage with this dynamic workmanship and come away with similar memorable experiences as I did. Now that you have waded through my sentimental words and nostalgic recollection, I was hoping some might be able to answer some questions I had about the story that still remain: (for clarification I played a Dark-Side Male) [For those who have not played through the game, please be aware that there may be major spoilers after this point] 1) What happened to the wookie Hanharr? I know as a light-sider that Mira and Hanharr duel on the surface of Malachor V. However, as a dark-sider Hanharr never appeared in any of the events on Malachor’s surface. Upon first gaining Hanharr from the depths of the tunnels in Nar Shadaa there was a lot of dramatic build-up with Kreia establishing a life debt with the wookie and somehow he owed her to fulfill some action towards the exile. But nothing ever came of that. Did I just miss something? 2) What happened to Bao-Dur? Upon entering the Trayus Academy you free the Handmaiden, Mandalore, and Visas. However, Bao-Dur is nowhere to be seen except in hologram instructions provided to his remote. If anything those holograms seemed as if a last will. The restored content mod at least cleared up a lot of my confusion regarding the interaction between GO-TO and the remote, but why did Bao-Dur think that destroying Malachor V was a necessity? 3) HK droids suddenly appeared to accompany GOTO on Malachor V’s surface and there was some ambiguous dialogue regarding how they couldn’t fire on HK-47. From the sound of it, it appears that I somehow missed an HK Factory questline (even though I had all possible influence with all of my companions). Throughout the game HK unit encounters were much more frequent than I remember and I always thought it would climax at some moment during the M4-78 planet. However, nothing ever came of that and no mission ever appeared in my quest log to indicate otherwise. What did I miss? 4) Kreia wanted to kill the force. As a dark side user I was confused as to why then should would be content that the exile defeated her. I understand she appreciated the exile because they themselves initially silenced the force instead of embracing it. However, in the end they used it generously in order to defeat Kreia and I wasn’t entirely sure why Kreia would think that the exile had embraced her teachings. Any clarification on this confusion?

Well the problem was that I didn't talk to the Maintenance droid until after my quest log had idicated that I had already found the part. Regardless that my quest log said I had the part, I don't believe I actually did, because I spent some time in the Industrial Zone and it then further updated the Archon quest log. During this time before I found the part though, the "Trash Compacters" quest log had said I already found the part and needed to look for a droid who knew a lot about parts.
-
I am in the same situation, however I've talked with the in the Central Sector and I can't seem to select any quest related dialogue. He mentions that a cleaning droid stole a part from him, but if I offer to find the piece for him, I eventually can only say Goodbye and walk away. Am I just missing something? My quest log states to find "A droid that knows a lot about droid parts" and I figured it would be him, but can't get any conversation triggers with him. Thoughts? *Update: Odd actually after searching around the cleaning droids again I found one which let me search his trash compacters and then informed me that I found the part I was looking for. However, the quest "Trash Compacters" had already updated to inform me that I had found it when, after searching a previous cleaning droid, I was told the part was not there. It seems some journal entry triggered too early or something like that for some reason.

Ok, should I just completely uninstall the game (does this uninstall all corresponding patches and previous TSLRCM mods)? Install the game, then the 1.0b (official update), and then TSLRCM 1.8.3 + M4-78? Edit: Actually I found your very detailed instruction on the link now, sorry.

Hey guys, first as always, thanks for your incredible work on making this mod happen! Next, I haven't been able to find a message that indicated very clearly. If I have a previous save in 1.8.2 should I delete it and start a new game to enjoy 1.8.3? I would love to include the M4-78 mod and enjoy any changes made in 1.8.3 but I don't want to have to start all over again if I don't have to. It's been a bit since I've played, but I just landed on the planet Telos after Citadel Station. Is it really best to uninstall 1.8.2 and then install 1.8.3? If so how do I do this and how can I ensure that I have the best setup to avoid conflicts in 1.8.3 and M4-78? Thanks!

I haven't really been tracking the mod enhancements that you guys have been working on, but how does this planet fit in with the original TSLRCM mod? I only want to mod the game in order to restore as much of the original content that was originally intended for the game. Was this planet designed from what was originally supposed to be part of the game? And would this mod be compatible if you already have a save started in TSLRCM 1.8.2? (currently on Space Station above Telos) Thanks, otherwise great work!

I have absolutely no other mods installed. And I've actually found KOTOR II to be more stable on Windows 8 than when I ran it on Windows 7, and then Vista don't make me laugh. I've been searching for quite some time for a non problematic widescreen/high resolution mod to no avail. Also in the installation instructions on here I read of a "high quality" video/audio mod, where is that? Is it worth it?
-
I have progressed further in the game, and the audio/video issue has happened only once since Peragus. Now that I am on the Telos Station I have not experienced any dialogue/audio errors.
-
So I finally am back in KOTOR II, got the game to install properly in Windows 8 etc... However I had this problem before that I never could get working properly. Whenever I start the game no matter what .ini settings I change or etc. The game is stuck in a Significantly boxed state, starts in windowed mode, and cannot seem to go beyond a 1024x768 screen resolution. Is there any way to get the game to fill my screen even at a low resolution? I've heard of random posts concerning widescreen mods or high resolution mods. What's the best way to get the highest resolution possible in fullscreen in Windows7/8 for KOTOR II? Additionally now, I've started playing the games and just completed Peragus. However I'm experiencing further video/audio issues with TSLRCM. Most video clips (when cinematic happens) the audio cuts out and no longer plays. When the game "resumes" the audio is back. Additionally when certain scenes were playing on Peragus, it would skip a character's dialogue, show the subtitles for what they were to have said, but the audio never happened. Any thoughts on how to fix all this, along with the boxed screen and resolution issues?

Not sure if this has been asked on these forums. Is KOTOR 1 and 2 compatible with Windows 8? (Additionally along with the restoration mod).
-
Ok it seems to always go full screen now, however there is still a large amount of black (box) space surrounding the actual gameplay window. My normal resolution is 1600x900 KOTOR II is set to 1024x768 I've attempted to set my desktop resolution to 1024x768 but the large black box surrounding the gameplay still remains. (So technically it is fullscreen but leaves a lot of screen unused) Is there a way to get it to fill the screen like it would when I played it years ago on my Windows XP computer? What is this changing of the .ini you are talking about where can I modify that file?
-
Yeah it would only remain on the black screen.

What is the best recommended set up with KOTOR II on Windows 7? I know originally the game was not designed to run on Windows 7, but I've done it before, but now I'm just having issues. I have a Windows 7 Ultimate (Dell XPS 17 Laptop) (Graphics Card with 1 GB) I installed KOTOR II fine, and installed the TSLRCM 1.7 mod. I enabled compatibility mode for Windows XP (SP2) Whenever I run the game I have many graphical issues though. The game starts up but has finicky resolution that doesn't fill the screen (game with large black border) or is sometime stuck in a window with the desktop visible. I tried setting my desktops resolution to match the game settings but still have that problem. I decided to ignore it and went to create a character and etc. While in character creation the screen flashes black repeatedly. Once again I decided to ignore it and continue on, the game loads to a black screen with the typical dark green KOTOR II mouse, and I hear the beginning audio for the game about the Ebon Hawk and all being disabled. But the screen remains black. I can't get it past this black screen any suggestions?

So 1.8 is not released yet then. Are we talking about something like that it could be released tomorrow or a in a few months? (Obviously, you can't state categorically any date suggested is set in stone.)

Hello, so it's been a while since I've been on here and I finally am deciding to sit down and enjoy KOTOR II again, with all the hard work in the Restoration Mod. Although I see v. 1.7 and a (progressing perhaps?) 1.8. Should I download 1.7 and play it through, or wait for 1.8 before beginning a game? Is there anything more stable or absolutely inherently better about 1.8? (Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, there's so much on these forums.) Thanks guys!
