Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library (Runtime error)

Recommended Posts

Request for help:

Hi All! Its been a long time, hope everyone is doing well :)

This is the first time playing Kotor 2 on my new PC & on windows 10. Everything was going well until the Telos Restoration Zone .... Crashes every couple of minutes without warning, but was able to fix this by changing my graphical settings. However, now when ever I leave the first module (Crash Zone) and enter the 2nd module (Mercenary base) of the Restoration Zone, the game will crash in the loading screen. The error I get is:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime error!

Program: A:/1.....

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

I have looked online to see other people have similar issues with Windows 10, however all fixes presented I have tried and have had no luck. I am wondering if anybody has any knowledge with dealing with this issue and may be able to advice me. I have an heavy modded game - the only mods that I can think directly impact that zone is TSRCM and the texture packs. I had a copy of my game directory with all mods, excluding texture mods, so I tested the game with 0 texture mods and still ran into the issue. I can provide PC system details if you think it is relevant. Many thanks.

Solution Found

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I finally tried to get TSL working again after many years of getting this error with mods.

I want to provide a possible solution for people who are struggling with the error. There are many possible issues, ranging from:

- Steam Overlay or Nvidia overlay causing crashes.

- Out of date graphics cards

- Movie cutscenes causing crashes. For instance many people were receiving issues with the Telos Surface Movie. People have removed them and found a way to continue playing the game.

Telos Module Crashes

However, for many people these fix's didn't work. I found out that one of my issues was the Community Patch. It looks like the fix's to Telos Model causes a runtime error. I tested it out by only using this mod and the module files causes the crash. I used this many times in the past, however since installing Windows 10, it now causes a crash.

If you are using this mod and are experiences these crash's on Telos, it might be worth deleting these files and seeing if it has fixed your issue. You need to delete the model files for the module you are experiencing crashes in. E.g. Tel203 for Residential Area West. You can look up module naming conventions on Warp Code lists for Kotor 2.

Crashes when loading Telos - Czerka Site

However the issue of the Czerka Site still plagues me. Even unmodded my game crashes with a runtime error. From what I can see there is no fix.

But do not despair, there is a work around so you can continue your game. Luckily the Czerka site has no impact on the story - really, it doesn't. It is not conditional for continuing the story. You will need to use cheat codes to warp to the Military Base and you can continue your game as nothing happened. The only thing you missed Is Bao Dur's dialogue. It sucks, but at least you can watch on YouTube and there are no real choice or consequence options. Even better no journal entry's are effected, everything runs as if you completed that module.

You can find out how to enable cheats here. Once enabled you will need to enter 'warp 232TEL'. That should send you to the next module.

I hope that helps :)
