Better rounded forms in KOTOR through smoothing?

Recommended Posts

Guest cornel

I don't know if this is possible but: is there a way to "smooth out" the blocky forms (especially on characters) into more rounded shapes? They are especially visible in the game dialog scenes. Shoulders come to mind, for example.

I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who bothers this... :D

Or is there a way to move the camera back in the dialog cut scenes (not the movie cut scenes) so that these blocky shapes are not that obvious? If so, where would i have to change something?

That would contain a complete remodel of all models in the game to contain more polygons.

So no.

I mean, the game is over ten years old by now, most of it has held up amazingly well.

I agree. And with the various reskins, even more so. And that's maybe why the blockyness starts to stand out ;)

And as I explained, it would necessitate a complete remodel of every model with new uvmaps for the texture, which is close to imposible.

Plus, I don't know if the engine could handle so much more polygons.

We've managed to remodel a few things, but remodelling all of the models would be significantly more difficult.

We also have a way to smooth character models, but we don't know enough to consistently ensure it works. (As far as I can tell, anyway)

As far as the weapons, we already have a mod that remodels basically all of them in both games to a much higher detail poly count.

Yes, I've got that weapon mod installed.

For me personally, the dialog cutscenes (which have the camera much closer up that the rest of the game, especially since I'm using the camera distance mod) are unbearable, because in the actual game play, my character is further away from the camera and the blockeyness is somewhat less noticable.

EDIT: So... I know you're all going to make the face that Yoda made when Luke failed in his tests... but I couldn't stand the blockyness anymore and I have uninstalled both games and deleted all the modifications I made. It just wasn't enough. I'm not an RPG buff, like most of you probably are... I'm just a simple Star Wars fan... looking for a nice, adventurous game... which looks pretty and is fun to play... KOTOR is a LOT OF FUN... but it isn't very pretty. For me, at least...

My sincere thanks to those few that have helped my out in quite a few occasions. I'm sure that many other visitors will benefit from the info reflected here on the forums!

I've decided to return to my original idea: trying to make a Star Wars total conversion for "Titan Quest", a game I discovered through google, showing me gorgeous screenshots, that I consequently bought through Steam (I hate Steam, so I'll probably try to buy it on eBay), played a little, and then directly stopped playing, because I had fallen in love with it and it hurt too much that such a beautiful game was not a Star wars game...

Yeah, I know: loco. You're probably right. Can't help it. That's the way I turned out...

If and when the HD conversion mod (Apeiron project) of KOTOR (and TSL?) is released, I'll return to mod the game(s) again, changing the era to post-ROTJ...
:D

I guess I won't be holding my breath...
