How do you put custom lightsaber models in the game?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has a tutorial related to how put custom lightsaber models to replace the standard lightsaber models.
I searched on the web but there isn't much detail about it.

Thanks for the help.

Regards.

Just name the lightsaber model to 'w_lghtsbr_001' and throw it into your override, numbers '001' to '010' at the end for different colours. leave the texure names as they are.

So you want to know how to rig a new model then?

What did you create it with? Just curious. I could make a quick tutorial using Gmax but couldn't get to it today. I have the means now.. haha

What did you model it with? I could do a quick thing in Gmax, but I dont know how different that is to other programs.

(Not to mention I probably still do it wrong)

Ah ok, shouldnt be too different I guess.

Do you have MDLops and NWMax?

MDLops 0.5 is best for sabers. I'm using NWMax 0.7 I think

Which MDLops?  You need 0.5.

Not sure if nwmax 8 is an issue, but I guess we'll see.

Uploading vidya to Youtube with an explanation. it'll be an hour and a half.

Also, MDLops came with a written saber tutorial..were you aware of it?

Alright, here you go. It's definately not great - there's no sound since i dont have a mic or a headset or anything like that, but hopefully you'll get the jist.

If you have any questions, I'll answer as best I can. Expand the "show more" drop down to read whats actually happening.

And my Gmax went wonky way back when I reinstalled it on Windows 7. There are settings I had I don't remember, so when i select one viewport, the others go white. Don't know how to fix it...maybe someone here does, LOL.

Presumably the usual case of Windows freaking out over the Program Files folder permissions. Don't install anything there. You could try starting Max with Admin permissions and try again. The stupid thing is that's an empty/0 byte file. Even with sanity check disabled, it still wants to create the report file.

Uh, yeah. I assumed you had already mapped and skinned it.

That's a whole 'nother tutorial, and I hardly remember how to do it myself..

but hitting 'm' should bring up the material editor..if that helps.

sorry for the late reply,  i had a problem with mi pc

I do it right this time: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5w88wcu0nu0kcqg/Screenshot%202015-08-15%2019.04.52.png?dl=0

the texture problem remains, but in 3d max the model has its textures:

and when I read and write the new model it shows this texture for the hilt but is I put in the override the model doesn't apply it

 I don't understand.
