Guide: Mod kotor 2

Recommended Posts

Hi , this guide you are currently reading is aimed for people that have the desire to mod Kotor 2.

Should I mod kotor 2? If yes, when ?

I would advise to mod kotor 2 only after having played it extensively. Truth is, I feel like modding kotor 2 should be a consequential fact of having played the "Vanilla" Kotor at least once, but I would advise twice. For anyone wondering what "vanilla" means I will write the definition:

Vanilla means "Original game format without any mods".

At least for me, Vanilla Kotor 2 is a great game. It has many strenghts and some flaws, but hey, which game doesn't have them ? And modding a game should only come after having faced these flaws, and after having asked yourself : may I fix them? If so, how?

So... what's your approach on modding ?

I've tried many mods for Kotor 2. I've extensively searched for them, to fix the flaws that I found in the game. What do I mean by fixing the flaws? Fixing the flaws means that I'm trying to stay as close to the developers design, when they made kotor. I don't want overpowered items (for example baodur charged armor...) or new locations that give you the chance to get powers you get in end-game (spoiler alert bzzz bzzz) or new force powers that may seem dull for my taste.

So... what do we do ?

Well, we start modding.
I advise once again to play Vanilla kotor 2 at least once before modding it.

Always remember that you gotta install the patch 1.0b before adding mods!

I will list all the mods in the order I installed them and in the order I advise you to install them:

1)  TSLRCM! You can find it here : http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/197-tsl-restored-content-mod/

2) Krystal Attunement! You can find it here : http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Workbench_Crystal_Attunement;116823

3) Cyan lightsaber fix! You can find it here http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Cyan_Lightsaber_Fix;92124

4) Invisible headgear! You can find it here:  http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/;75825

5) Kill the ithorian! You can find it here: http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Kill_The_Ithorian_11zip;117390

6) Peragus tweak! You can find it here: http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/8-peragus-tweak/

7) Sith assassin lightsaber! You can find it here: http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Sith_Assassins_With_Lightsabers;56678

8) Trayus rank! You can find it here: http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/11-trayus-rank-reform/

9) Realistic Visual effects! You can find it here: http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Realistic_Visual_Effects;90383

10) And last, but I think the most important mod, especially if you use extensively Force Speed:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=979242
Sorry for linking another forum there, but I feel like Synx deserve much more attention for having removed the biggest nuissance you will ever face in kotor 2 if you use force speed a lot.

Am I currently trying other mods?

Yes, definitely.
There are two mods I'm trying, but I still need to playtest them extensively before advising them.

The first one is "Droid Enhancement" : you can find it here http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Droid_Enhancement;91526

And another mod I'm trying is "remote tells influence": you can find it here: http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Remote_Tells_Influence;87769

You are a crazy boy. None of the link on gamefront works. What a useless guide!

My boy, that's not my fault. Gamefront blocked the traffic from some countries and it seems like your country is one of them.
There are obviously some workaround for this. That's the one I'm currently using:

1- Download firefox

2- From the mozilla addons, I advise you to download Foxyproxy https://addons.mozilla.org/it/firefox/addon/foxyproxy-standard/

3- After having installed it, go there : http://www.proxy-listen.de/Proxy/Proxyliste.html
Choose a country near you, from this list of allowed countries: http://www.gamefront.com/file-hosting-faq/ and you will be able to download everything you need.

4- When you are done with foxyproxy, just click on the foxy near the address bar with the right click and click on "Switch off Foxyproxy"

What about now?

Enjoy the game!

Just pointing-out that Shem's Realistic Visual effects mod also remove the Force speed blur.

I installed it but the blur didn't disappear ;)

And I had to use that file I listed.

Yeah, the not so funny part is you'll have to get to MAlachor just to see if it is in fact compatible. Better ask VP about this...

I'm playing the game right now. I will playtest it another bit, I saw that the modded saves are compatible even with Vanilla Kotor, so it won't be much trouble. I will have just to reinstall, if that's the case. So I just gotta play, for now (it will take a bit because I'm going to have some tests soon) :(
