Sherm 0 Posted September 22, 2012 Hi, I'm hoping someone can help...I bought KOTOR 2 via steam yesterday. Installed, then installed the 1.8.1 content mod, ran the game from steam, lucas arts logo appears, followed by the 2nd logo...then the whole game crashes (screen goes black and returns me to the desktop). I uninstalled, then re-installed from scratch and ran the game before any mods or patches were installed...same problem. I'm using windows 7 64-bit...I've read that other people have experienced this, I tried the .dll file download that is on hte lucas arts website, it says it's for vista but it gave it a go anyway, nothing. I've tried changing the actual launcher.exe in the steamapps folder to run from xp service pack 2...still crashes. I've tried messing with the .ini folder and tried running it all with full screen 0 or 1, as well as enabling and disabling all movies. I've also changed the resolution on display and graphics to my desktop settings (1600x1200) still nothing. Graphics card is raedon 6750, i'm sure the problem is related to my display drivers but I don't want to screw them up and/or limit them to just running this game. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hassat Hunter 571 Posted September 22, 2012 Have you tried removing the LA and OE logo's fysically from the movies folder. I needed to do that for KOTOR1 atleast, which did the same (but not KOTOR2). Worth a try...
hkmandalore47 3 Posted September 22, 2012 did you install it with the 1.0b official patch? you have to install the game, install 1.0b, install TSLRCM 1.8.1, and then whatever mod you want. it MUST to be in that order. im not sure if it would cause crashing without 1.0b, but i know you need it. Thanks for replying to my query. I am trying to install patch 1.0a and 1.0b (i need 1.0a because i have the international version..UK). I am unable to install either though, the following error message appears. "Missing or invalid registry/INI entry" I have reinstalled the game via steam, totally untouched...the error message still appears. Any ideas? Thanks. Forgot to add...upon pressing "ok" after i am prompted with this message, another box appears which says "old file does not exist".
Hassat Hunter 571 Posted September 23, 2012 If on Steam, you already have the patches. Have you tried removing those 2 movies?
Sherm 0 Posted September 24, 2012 If on Steam, you already have the patches. Have you tried removing those 2 movies? Hi, Yeah I tried removing them, the problem still persists. Presumably after the LA and obsidian logos appear...it goes to the main menu. So then the problem is likely to be my display drivers? Any ideas on what to do next? tpiom 6 Posted September 24, 2012 Some people require the Vista fix for it to work. Try and download it (http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/TSL_Windows_Vista_Fix;85439). I'm not sure, but I think it is a .dll file. So, remember to keep the original file, in case it doesn't work and you don't have to re-install.

Hassat Hunter 571 Posted September 25, 2012 On the Steam forums someone mentioned an ati .dll file. You could try that... Not sure where it came from though...
