Help with custom item

Hello all.  I recently decided I wanted to port the sith assassin robes for TSL to KOTOR 1.  The problem is I don't really know where to start or how to do that.  My attempts of navigating multiple forums spanning over a decade has not given me much to work with especially with Lucasforums down. Any help would be appreciated.
